@Groovee I'm also back in nursery on 22nd. But have an s2 and an s4 who will now be at home attempting a full timetable of home schooling. My head is going to explode! Happy for the wee ones but feel like crying for my own kids ( and me ) this is not going to be good
I feel you I have been trying to juggle this with three primary aged children since January. Working full-time out the house but not being a keyworker so no place at school. The government don’t care. My kids education has been down to what we can fit in a few hours before they go to bed and I get in from work.

I have similar... I'm a TA and in as normal every day at the key worker service whilst the kids (S1, S2 & S4 - just turned 16) are home alone following a pretty full timetable. I work in the same school they go to and they can contact me on teams as well as on my phone if they have a problems... I could be home I'm 5 mins if needed right enough,,. Took a but of adjusting to (me, not them!) but works fine...

diamondsandrose · 02/02/2021 17:23

@Peppafrig it's rotten , we are all at breaking point. I feel my own mental health declining over the struggle to fit it in but I have to prioritise my kids schoolwork over that. It just needs done. I am a keyworker but have a husband who works from home so don't think I'll get a hub space either. They don't realise he's in meetings 830-630 with his office door closed and no use to anyone!!

GrrrrrrArghhhhh · 02/02/2021 17:23

Excuse the typos 😳

shouldistop · 02/02/2021 17:24

I'm really pleased that ds1 will be back at nursery soon. So sorry for those of you with older children, it must be so hard Thanks

diamondsandrose · 02/02/2021 17:25

@GrrrrrrArghhhhh your kids sound more sensible than mine! My s2 does nothing without me standing over him yelling. When I go back full time it's going to be a shit show !

I confess, they are pretty sensible on the whole, particularly the S4 who keeps the other two on task if required...

GrrrrrrArghhhhh · 02/02/2021 17:29

Plus, as I work in the school (albeit the junior part)...things would get back to me pretty sharpish if they slacked off!

Bytheloch · 02/02/2021 17:32

My dc can return on the 22nd, already I’m assuming he picks up a cold within the first week of mixing back. Let’s hope that doesn’t send everyone off for testing. It needs clarity on what to do or it’ll be a repeat of last August. Other years won’t get back in a hurry if testing or isolation protocol still in place for slightest sniffle.

Rae36 · 02/02/2021 17:39

Did someone not mention a housebound relation who was invited to the surgery for vaccine was put down as a refusal when they couldn't make it?

That could have been me. Mil was "taken off the list" because she couldn't get to the surgery. Dh has been phoning them regularly to remind them she's still waiting and they say they are planning to start home visits soon. The district nurse has been to see her twice about a leg ulcer but she can't do the jag while she's there because she hasn't had the right training.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 02/02/2021 17:45

when you get the jag, will you be allowed to have someone with you for communication reasons (I'm deaf and masks are a nightmare)

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/02/2021 17:49

Why would testing and isolation protocol not be in place? The pandemic isn't over. It's shit and you're right @Bytheloch back to school means back to testing of kids have symptoms but I still think it's a step in the right direction.

MrsAmaretto · 02/02/2021 17:50

@Iwillneverbesatisfied yes you are allowed another person with you.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 02/02/2021 17:53

I don't think many pupils will be back into the 22nd at secondary level. Around 8% is only 80 at a time.
Hopefully they will be tested before they go in though it's hard to see how they will set that up.

MrsAmaretto · 02/02/2021 17:54

Delighted that one of my children has a start date. Though feeling sorry for her teacher who will have the P3s in class and the other year groups online!

StarryEyeSurprise · 02/02/2021 18:02

Yes. We've never sent home children for a sniffle as that's not a covid symptom. If they're displaying covid symptoms, yes - they would need to go and get tested.

Same as any workplace .

mondaywine · 02/02/2021 18:05

Some of us have been in that exact situation since Xmas MrsAmaretto and it really isn’t sustainable. I am in ft teaching in school while also doing the home part online. Just now I can sneak out for half an hour to check in but you won’t be able to do that when the class are back as a majority. All recording of teaching happens from home once I’m out of school. They need to work out very quickly how they are going to manage this for p4/3 composites and multi composite schools. This is Scotland. Multi composites are not rare!

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/02/2021 18:07

@mondaywine what a nightmare. Didn't even think of that. Wonder what the unions will say. Just kidding they'll say nothing.

StarryEyeSurprise · 02/02/2021 18:09

MondayWine what council are you? Why don't they have enough teachers to do a rota? That's terrible.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/02/2021 18:13

Actually that's a fair point - have you been to your union because there really should be a rota. That's karma for me slagging the unions a minutes ago 🙈

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 02/02/2021 18:17

It seems a step in the right direction. I was worried it would be august before this was even considered! Hopefully it will mean other primary year groups won’t be too far behind. Really hope that as they seem to be prioritising children it will be recognised how important it is for secondary children to have in-person learning too, fingers crossed for those of you with older kids!

mondaywine · 02/02/2021 18:23

Our LA are not running rotas. You are in ft or at home ft. However numbers of children rose quickly in school meaning more staff in so doing both jobs. I have a great ht. she gives us the time she can and I have always known this is for a finite period of time. My own working life will be so much easier come the 22nd when all my kids come back full time to school. However many people will now be In a situation of needing to be in both places due to multi composites. The solution of course is to bring in supply but they’re as scarce as hens’ teeth in many LAs.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/02/2021 18:36

That sounds really hard @mondaywine ... it makes you username completely understandable! Grin

StarryEyeSurprise · 02/02/2021 18:48

Yeah. It's quite unfair the way your LA is doing it. Hopefully the 22nd comes quickly for you. 🤞
I'm feeling positive today. My dad (60s) is getting his vaccine tomorrow.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/02/2021 18:49

Fantastic @StarryEyeSurprise . That must be a great feeling!
