I don't understand the distinction about practical assessments - we have been told by our school that NO assessments done at home can count towards assessments, so ALL senior phase pupils will have to do these in school.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/02/2021 15:10

I didn't actually think it was specifically "assessments ", I think she said practical elements. I could be wrong.

beepbeeprichie · 02/02/2021 15:11

Can someone explain to me, given that there are only 36,000 people in care homes in Scotland (approx), why the vaccination of residents and carers couldn’t have been run in parallel with the community? There’s been long enough to prep that this was coming.
I don’t understand why the breadth/ depth argument stacks up.

dancemom · 02/02/2021 15:13

Is headroom the new buzzword now??

BlueThursday · 02/02/2021 15:15

Our February holiday ends on the 11th

Ah ok that makes a bit more sense then - so lab experiments etc
Peppafrig · 02/02/2021 15:16

You would think she would know that kids in her own constituency go back on the 11th February

blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 15:19

Nearly had a Tena moment before DS had his MMR booster listening to BBB radio Scotland 🎉🎉🎉

I know @beepbeeprichie I just shake my head common sense seems to have taken a nose dive. She swerved RD question about the army helping!
ladylunchalot · 02/02/2021 15:27

I know not all kids can go back right now but I'm gutted that ASN is yet again not a priority. They will increase provision, wow, probably a handful of places available.
Pissed off big time Angry

ASN should be up there with early years in terms of prioritisation imo. Families are at breaking point with no respite and for many with asn routine is really important
anon444877 · 02/02/2021 15:32

Agree ladylunch it wasn't good enough And how they're defining significant need is yet another grey area where some schools will push back more than others.

blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 15:34

I wasn't interested in NS drivel about aviation and travel, just wanted to hear about education update. Was really annoyed she left it til last, tbh.

anon444877 · 02/02/2021 15:37

Classic spin - when does half term end in Scotland? Let's take the latest possible date anyone goes back and declare they're going back after half term.

I was thinking they were back 15th feb like we are but I'm so, so glad it's not April 19th.

It is divisive though, all kids need to be back. Maybe they'll announce a faster return for other years if they can in 2 weeks.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 02/02/2021 15:39

@Peppafrig

I don’t think they seem fussed about much except independence.

ladylunchalot · 02/02/2021 15:40

I'm gutted for ds and his fellow ASN classmates, he's struggling so much and although we're trying to keep to a routine it's just not the same.

Dinnafashyersel · 02/02/2021 15:42

Agree beebeeprichie

Otoh I do think the lagging behind will be a short lived problem. The big increase in vaccinations today is in line with the new centres opening post weekend and all my elderly contacts (mostly 70-80) are in the queue over the next week. That said my in-laws in the Home Counties, both in their mid-70s, were vaccinated over a week ago.

I understand the notes of caution but I do have to ask what is the point of vaccinating everyone if it doesn't lead to opening up? Fingers crossed serious symptomatic transmission and hospitalisations do indeed drop by 80% once the vaccine kicks in for the over 70s (per JVT et al iirc).

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 02/02/2021 15:43

what are the UfT lot saying?

MissEliza · 02/02/2021 15:47

She can go on about 'given' v 'offered' all she likes but the actual numbers speak for themselves. It does annoy me though that some people are actually refusing the vaccination.

Dinnafashyersel · 02/02/2021 15:49

anon I am also hopeful this is just a first step to get the ball rolling. I have a P5 and am quite relieved it is full return for year groups below with the prospect of adding years rather than some sort of dogs breakfast half in/half out.

Despite my misgivings and having to be quite flexible around our other homeworkers home learning is working much better for us this time round. Part of that is because I am a bit more engaged, part because the resources are more organised and structured. Mostly though it is because it turns out my P5 is much more self reliant and capable than she was 6 months ago. I am shocked at how much she progressed between lockdowns. Double edged sword because it has made me more aware of what she is missing from not being in school (I am usually very much a "leave it to the teacher" type parent).

why would it annoy you? People are allowed not to want a vaccination. It might be for any number of reasons including allergic reactions etc.

LetItGoGo · 02/02/2021 15:52

Dinnafash

I guess vaccination resulting in reduction in hospitalisation is the only immediate benefit.

Mixing more in the community with partially vaccinated and non vaccinated is risky due to fears of vaccine escape.

All the more reason to pull out the stops on vaccination. Lets hope we do see that in the coming days.

Lidlfix · 02/02/2021 15:53

I lost the UFT brigade train of thought when they refuse to have their child "given anal swabs from China" .

Granted I didn't listen to the whole thing but pretty sure that didn't feature in the version I listened to.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/02/2021 15:56

Uft has a lot of people who consider testing to be a hideously invasive procedure anyway - even before the anal swabs (it was in the news a few days ago, no mention if it for here)
