@blowinahoolie

"They all need their peers, not just little ones. "

I get that WouldBeGood, but the youngest need to get the basics right in nursery so that they can do well throughout the rest of their education. Basic building blocks of communication. My 5yo needs help still with this, a lot nursery do with him that I can't. I don't have lots of other 3/4/5yos for him to interact with at home. Older children who are well established in school system are more or less doing okay, just missing friends (10yo said that to me the other day). I will be applying for my 3yo to have a delayed start to P1 nearer the time as he has delayed speech and really needs time in a nursery setting to improve. He was really doing great until to this latest lockdown.

It’s not a contest. I’d have them all back in.

I’ve said before how I think it’s wicked to keep children locked up and feel criminalised if they see a friend, or even want to. My DS was very depressed last time and I can see it starting again.

I know it’s really hard for wee ones too. But I don’t want the big ones forgotten.

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2021 08:59

If you’re in Lanarkshire, keep an eye on local Facebook for vaccination clinics. They did one at the weekend for over 80s who’d not been done, at the Ally McCoist centre

Last time when kids weren't allowed out to play my 9yo was depressed, but at least this time he can play locally.

I definitely would be encouraging older isolated kids to meet a pal. MH is the reason you can meet someone outside. Remind them that the provision to meet someone is there to be used.

TheMShip · 02/02/2021 09:23

Just chipping in on the vaccinations, my in-laws are 70s and were jabbed yesterday, north Edinburgh.

I'm hoping for nursery and early years back after half term. Feeling cautiously optimistic, even Devi Sridhar has said kids should be back. She tweeted:

Today:
Happy Tuesday! Schools one of the most heated & hardest challenges during COVID-19 crisis. At suggestion of

I’m increasingly convinced by data from countries across the world that we are underestimating the harms of keeping young kids out of school & overplaying their role in transmission. Children should be in school.

Scottish Sun not impressed with slow roll out and distractions

I get that, mental health of our young generation is very important. If your DS can get out and meet a friend that would be beneficial to him. It's not easy for them. I do understand, have one that will be 14yo in a few months (oh look, another birthday to celebrate "at home").

titsbumfannythelot · 02/02/2021 09:52

I think there's a bit of a change in the reporting tone over the past few days @WouldBeGood across all media outlets.

fluffyugg · 02/02/2021 09:56

I think it will be early years and p1/2 but I hope it's more. My kids will be really envious if they know that some classes are back but they're not allowed in!

There's an Ally McCoist centre?!
LetItGoGo · 02/02/2021 10:01

He was my pin up once..

LetItGoGo · 02/02/2021 10:01

😂

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2021 10:03

Yes there is! It’s funny, isn’t it?

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2021 10:03

Super Ally

NotAnActualSheep · 02/02/2021 10:08

I agree that all children are affected by lockdown and closures of school/ nursery/ playgroups. In different ways yes, but I don't think it's fair to say the older ones who are able to see friends have it easier. The tinies are losing out on early socialisation skills, young primary on building blocks of learning, older primary are old enough to understand the risks but not old enough to process or have the independence to manage friendships online, early secondary are missing out with group socialising and learning the skills in school that they will need for their more advanced work, older secondary losing out on exam prep, students missing face to face learning and acquiring eg advanced lab skills, young adults missing training in skills in their careers from learning from their peers and so on and so on..... It's a shitshow for everyone. Of course we may need to prioritise certain years returning in the first instance, but I really think things need to move faster than they seem to be to end lockdown, even if just getting back to tier 3 or even 4.

My DM (79, East lothian) had her jag on Friday at her GP, but DD (75, same place) hasn't heard anything yet. Hope he's not sent into Edinburgh...

I'm shocked they are still planning for in person May elections, if the rumours are that there won't even be full school returns til Easter (April?). Why aren't they planning for postal votes, remote counting or whatever? It seems to be asking for trouble, and there will still be vulnerable people (including older ones) who won't have had their second jab so may not feel comfortable going to a polling station. Is the intention to disenfranchised those?!

blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 10:09

Off this afternoon to get 3yo MMR booster jab done. So excited about a trip out that isn't to do with walking locally in my area!🎉

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 02/02/2021 10:14

ole ole ole Grin

Scottishskifun · 02/02/2021 10:24

I just hope they give all parents a date! I think people would cope a lot better knowing something to keep going towards rather than a endless road.

My DS has been attending his private nursery as our LA allow one kw and his nursery has been very understanding. But I see my friends struggling (their children attend different nurseries) and their works refusal to furlough, reduce hours or allow holiday to be used!

shouldistop · 02/02/2021 10:24

@blowinahoolie my wee one just had his 8 week vaccinations. He was fascinated by all the different people Grin at least until they jabbed him!

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 10:28

Its would be amazing to get all kids back. I just don't think it will happen.

speedtalker · 02/02/2021 10:31

A family member, over 70, southside Glasgow, getting his today. Another family member, in one of the worst hit English regions, and also over 70, hadn't heard. She phoned her gp yesterday about a routine test and expressed her worry, and they've booked her in for next week. So it's not consistently better down south.

Peppafrig · 02/02/2021 10:36

If the schools go back after Easter then closing the ones that are used as polling stations on the 6th May . I can’t see them opening back on the 7th either as surely they will need to deep clean the gym hall and the corridors before allowing kids back in.

Sexnotgender · 02/02/2021 10:41

@titsbumfannythelot

A friend told me she heard nursery/ early years back 3rd week in February. Rest back after Easter.

We'll find out in a few hours I suppose.

God I hope you’re right.
Sexnotgender · 02/02/2021 10:43

@anon444877

blowin if I had an under 5, and I saw English nurseries open I'd have been bombarding my local politicians. Big fan of delayed starts for some kids, if they're not ready school can be so stressful.
I emailed my MSP. He replied basically saying he was sorry it was inconvenient looking after my own child. I haven’t replied.
NotAnActualSheep · 02/02/2021 10:47

WTAF?! That is awful! I'll reply for you if you like... God, does he not have any empathy? "Inconvenient" indeed...

Scottishskifun · 02/02/2021 10:49

@Sexnotgender this is completely unacceptable it's been shown that lock down affects childrens mental health and development badly. I would be naming and shaming the hell out of them on twitter for that kind of response and copying in the children's minister!
