My guess is that delivery takeaways might be ok, but not collection. To reduce the numbers I see getting coffees and chatting with folk outside. Not saying it's right or wrong either way, just speculating.

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2021 13:43

The only thing that will work now is to vaccinate the elderly and vulnerable now.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2021 13:44

Boris might be a buffoon with crazy hair but he understands families, the need to see people and go him for showing that a 7mile bike ride isn't against the law.

I don't believe that the press spotted him by shear chance.

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2021 13:44

I agree @WaxOnFeckOff, about the different views but not over the top. Not like the banana thread.

MrsAmaretto · 12/01/2021 13:50

I’d love it if there was delivery services here ☹️ Ffs do the government even realise not everyone lives in a town or city?! Can’t get bloody supermarket deliveries in many places let alone a takeaway delivery 🤦‍♀️

Rae36 · 12/01/2021 13:51

Rae, the issue is that we still don't have proper info on why the people are in hospital or if figures in hospital overall are higher than normal

I know, that's the bit we're missing. I still after all this time hardly know anyone who has covid and I don't know anyone who has been in hospital or died.

On one hand my real life experience is that this is not that big a deal, the story I'm being told is that it is a huge deal. And I can't weigh up the evidence and work it out for myself.

So I shake my head at the advice to not "gather" outside a takeaway coffee shop but maybe it's good, solid advice? I genuinely don't know any more and that's why I'm finding it all so hard right now.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/01/2021 13:57

Haven't read the banana thread but there are people I need to avoid for my own sanity in the covid threads (and many other areas). I think people have lost the ability to risk assess and see everything as a breach of rules regardless of whether it is. I really don't think it's healthy to be memorising the rules and getting apoplectic if you think someone has broken/bended them in any small way.

DS will be bending them next week and returning to Uni. he's going door to door by car, hasn't left the house other than for a walk round the block, was tested before he came home. Will get a test when he returns and if he can't, will stay in his flat for 10 days. His course will be on-line, but his PC and notes etc are all in his flat. I read that they can return if they didn't have a suitable study environment at home so that's the exception he is using. He doesn't have his stuff here.

rookiemere · 12/01/2021 13:59

I was just looking at the historical Scottish figures on traveling tabby - how I love that site ! Basically there were no cases from mid June to start of August, but yet I don't remember any triumphant jubilation or rush to remove restrictions. I do remember garden centres opening on 26/05 and the grudging go ahead given to holidays from 10 July.

I've now got the fear that we'll be in May and I'll still not be able to celebrate a belated Christmas with our English relatives.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/01/2021 14:01

The point is though that he is a grown adult and isn't putting anyone at risk so why does the government think they can tell him not to return to what is essentially his home after visiting his parents for christmas?

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/01/2021 14:03

yep rookie, I'm sure in stirling we had very few cases and no deaths for months on end and yet we had very few restrictions lifted and I'd already missed my summer hols by then.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/01/2021 14:08

it's funny, if you look at the heat map of the the first half of this and then the 2nd half it's like chalk and cheese (obviously very little testing in first half) but essentially, even the unclear numbers of deaths/icu admissions is lower so despite the chart showing all areas in black/red/dark orange in the 2nd half, it's essentially better in terms of overall outcome?

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 12/01/2021 14:24

FUCK, had an interview and couldn't get into fucking MS Teams at all. It kept saying 'no connection' even though I could still see my social media tabs etc. I don't know if its because of multiple video calls in this house - three at the same time - or if its just fucking MS Teams. Anyone got any suggestions on what to do? I know Teams wasn't working yesterday but are there any problems with it today?

Rae36 · 12/01/2021 14:43

Oh no @iwillneverbesatisfied
Have you phoned them? Maybe the problem was at their end and not yours? We've done about 15 online interviews recently and about 5 of them didn't work properly. We didn't hold that against anyone.

anon444877 · 12/01/2021 14:45

Definitely call and email - we've had teams slow refresh issues today for home school. Issues yesterday hit a lot of press at least so should be well known that it's struggling.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 12/01/2021 14:54

I asked if we could use another video platform instead but they said 'no' Hmm so its been rearranged for later in the week, again on Teams Hmm. They did sound a little impatient....

TeenTraumaTrials · 12/01/2021 14:57
@rookiemere, I guess i just find it frustrating re the numbers as it really matters not a jot how many people have covid if it's not translating into hospitalisations and deaths and we protect the vulnerable. I mean hospitals have been over-run in flu years and no-one was locked down, no-one was tested, we just took sensible precautions. I appreciate the difference being that you are generally aware you have flu and therefore don't go and visit your granny, but we've had testing available for a decent while now so things should be different no matter which end of the camp you sit.

Without the proper information then you can't make informed choices and there is no indication that anyone has that information.
I agree WaxOnFeckOff - the whole bloody country could have it but if hospitals are coping and people aren't dying the number infected is totally irrelevant. I really think that NS needs to be open about whether that's her metric for releasing restrictions. I'm hearing more and more rumouring about schools being closed to Easter (which means lockdown to Easter as schools are supposed to be the first to open). I know it's just rumours, but people need some sort of positive end to look forward to, and as someone else said, for me, a rubbish Scottish summer is not it!

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2021 15:02

NS has apparently said unlikely anything will change at end of January. JS has said Primaries might open before Secondary and ruled out repeating the year.

I didn't think repeating was ever a goer because of the many issues no leavers for a year and double leavers in the future etc.

That's because at that point she was going for elimination rookiemere (and yes Travelling Tabby deserves a medal for keeping us all informed)

To be honest though I think if we hadn't got numbers as low as we had in the summer we would be in a much worse place now. But even though summer felt miles better than now it really was still hugely restricted.

How the hell are we going to assess fourth, fifth and sixth years of they're not in school till Easter? At least last year most of the course was covered by the time lockdown came along. This lot have had an interrupted 5 months.
Lockdownbear · 12/01/2021 15:21

Gawd only knows. My best guess is get them back after Easter, a month / 6 weeks teaching and assessments in June.

I had 3 interviews for the job I'm starting soon, had 2 it fails too. Please don't rule yourself out because of this, I hope the interview goes smoothly.
Dinnafashyersel · 12/01/2021 15:41

Quite perplexed that no-one is questioning the super spready messaging. The restrictions seem pointless if it spreads regardless.

Soon we will indeed all be congregated in the M&S "essentials" aisle because that is all that will be permitted.

Saw some memes on twitter about vaccination centres being the new community clubs - too close to the truth to be funny.

Really enjoying homeschooling - suspect my inner self is actually stuck at about age 10. Also helps that DH does tea breaks and lunch with us so I get a break from perpetual chatter. Teacher has put the whole day up to do at our leisure with everything from Maths and English to Art and PE. Glow is a bit flaky and we have to ration our internet around the HWs so this works really well for us. Been to the park to play with the ice for our science today.

latortugafeliz · 12/01/2021 15:51

shouldistop congratulations! I can sympathise, ds2 born just before lockdown, and ds1 has been at home more than he has been at nursery. I go back to work soon and having to contemplate now having to work with them both at home... laughable!

I know how hard the early days and weeks are, particularly with no friends or family that can properly support. For when you're ready and if you're on Facebook, look up the Scottish Buggy Club. It's been set up with lots of local groups, and allows us to walk in small numbers in line with the ever changing rules. Under 5s also welcome! It's good to even just chat with other new parents for a bit, and a bit of fresh air. Smile

Rae36 · 12/01/2021 15:53

They did sound a little impatient....

But with the situation, not with you I bet

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 12/01/2021 16:11

I don't think I will get this role anyway as I do not meet all of the criteria and I haven't been too impressed with them so far for several reasons but its experience anyway.
