What's really worrying is the threads are back again where people are getting castigated for eating a banana in the park and there will probably be suggestions to chain up the play parks again soon. But not to worry in Scotland you can still play golf with a friend.

It's a super spready virus being transmitted mostly in hospitals and care homes. Fine we stay home whatever, but a little bit of common sense needed.

Appallingly friends autistic 16 year old in school was told to sit at a desk for 6 hours without moving, apparently came home in tears. If he is to be taught at home, then my friend will need to take leave as not possible for her to work and manage his schedule.

anon444877 · 12/01/2021 10:30

Have kids been stopped from playing together outside in England though for large stretches? We don't have decent comparisons across the whole stretch of this. You may be right but I'm not confident, media reports being somewhat partial.

anon444877 · 12/01/2021 10:31

Library closures, swimming pools - slot availability, when they were actually reopened - it'll take ages to piece together.

Rae36 · 12/01/2021 10:33

Yeah I don’t think that SG really get how grim it is stuck in a flat with toddlers and babies

It is so grim. But what's the alternative if we need to stop people mixing? This is just so awful, I'm really down about it right now.

I was chatting to a friend in her 90s yesterday and she was saying again how she thought living through the war was rubbish but this is harder because at least then your kids went to school and you could sit at your pal's kitchen table and share a pot of tea and a cry and a cuddle when you needed it.

She was also talking about how much she missed being in a group of people laughing together. It's funny, I was thinking about that yesterday when I saw lots of sharing of the music teacher video and all the tv presenters were properly laughing together about it and it made me think how long it's been since I sat with my pals and a bottle of wine having a proper good laugh. I so miss that.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2021 10:42

Allowing under 12s to play has been one of SGs better moves but I feel younger children pre-school and babies have been forgotten about.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 12/01/2021 10:59

The fact that gyms were open and soft play wasn't bugged me. Soft plays are gyms for babies! They're great exercise. The implication that babies are all dirty covid magnets that will infect everything they touch was a horrible one that Jason Leitch was especially fond of.

randomsabreuse · 12/01/2021 11:15

Soft plays are horrific germ magnets at the best of times even if babies aren't. We got 2 nasty gastro bugs from our old local one in 2 visits before I banned DH from taking the kids to that one!

I do miss them but go with recommendations and as early in the day as possible.

rookiemere · 12/01/2021 11:21

There used to be a soft play attached to a chain pub at Ratho - DH and I used to go as only chance to have a meal together. One time DS emerged proudly clutching his sock that he'd lost about 6 months earlier in the ball pit.

I do think people are likely to group together at soft plays and they are generally sweaty warm places, whereas at a gym the machines can be distanced and should be wiped down by users, so I can see why they'd be difficult to think about opening.

No excuse though to keep play parks chained up as long as they did last time though whilst garden centres and golf was opened.

runningpink · 12/01/2021 11:26

Do we think she is likely to enforce more restrictions today?

Was meant to meet my friend today but she had to cancel and it’s now just hit me if Nicola changes stuff today then I may not get to see her later in the week when we have rescheduled.

It’s taking me all my will power to not just eat lots of junk food right now

Rae36 · 12/01/2021 11:34

I've usually seen some more concrete rumours by this point on a Tuesday and I haven't seen anything so far yet so I'm hopeful there won't be anything massive today. Am I just naive?

Bytheloch · 12/01/2021 11:38

Checking in to new thread, 3 pages in already! Great title.

Rumours are strongest about takeaways and shut down of construction industry, as per the drip-fed threats. If anything more restrictive about outdoor movement I will tip over, I’ve had to hold on tight recently due to a family incident. I think we’re in danger of tipping over as a nation soon - covid over our mental health and wellbeing.

shouldistop · 12/01/2021 11:40

If they close the playparks I think I may crack up.
I mean it's not exactly pleasant sitting on a freezing cold bench with my baps out feeding a baby while ds plays but I really think it's essential for DS.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2021 11:54

I don't think they'll be more restrictions outside, but I think take-aways could go. But I hope not the risk must be minimal and numbers do seem to be stabilizing. So fingers and toes crossed they leave things alone.

runningpink · 12/01/2021 11:57

@Rae36 i know what you mean, feels eerily too quiet compared to normal. Can’t decide if that’s good or bad thing.
Guess we will see this afternoon

runningpink · 12/01/2021 12:00

Although iv just seen that there is a bbc Scotland news special starting now. That wasn’t on the tv listings earlier...

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2021 12:12

Oh fuck that can't be good
runningpink · 12/01/2021 12:16

News says any restrictions will be announced in parliament tomorrow.
So sounds like today will be more threats. 🤞🏻
Iv no idea why I’m sat watching just torturing myself

shouldistop · 12/01/2021 12:16

I'm kind of glad ds1 is watching tv eating his lunch just now so I'm spared the update

Invisimamma · 12/01/2021 12:17

Lunch time already and I really haven't managed much of my own work at all yet today between all of the guiding through work, questions, demands for snacks and helping with tech.

I was thinking last night what I would give to meet a big group of 'mum friends' at soft play or trampoline park, drink medicore overpriced coffee, fill the kids with brightly coloured slushies and let them run feral with their pals getting all sweaty whilst we chat nonsense for a couple of hours. I'd even happily deal with the inevitable tantrums when it's time to leave for that little slice of normality.

They'll be a whole cohort of toddlers out there who've never expierenced soft play.

runningpink · 12/01/2021 12:20

She has just said she Will update parliament tomorrow and mention of takeaway stuff again

So doom day tomorrow

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 12/01/2021 12:25

Our soft play was very clean, relatively speaking. They seemed to be constantly cleaning around you. Some not so much, granted. Some you felt the toys sticking to you when you left.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/01/2021 12:26

175,942 vaccinated with first dose as of yesterday, which I think is about 12k more than the day before? Doesn't sound like very much for the whole of Scotland.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 12/01/2021 12:27

Nothing exciting today but we're due a daily scolding from Jason Leitch. Blush

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 12/01/2021 12:32

Takeaways are toast. She's mentioned it about 42 times already.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 12/01/2021 12:35
