Thanks @Scottishskifun. So fuck all use for folk who need to make decisions now then. Sigh.

Perihelion · 13/01/2021 13:14

It's not difficult doing takeaway at the door, just a bit colder, so more ventilation. Stops the non mask wearers coming inside too. Makes me happier about going to work.

Pretty much - seems to be if you are willing to stay open then they will give you some cash but whether this covers losses (highly doubt it) is unclear.
WouldBeGood · 13/01/2021 13:18

De facto detention at home. It’s terrifying. And it here is no evidence for any of this.

Lots of people won’t need to worry about going to work as they won’t have jobs 🤷🏻‍♀️

user1487194234 · 13/01/2021 13:37

I agree with PPS ,she has finally completely lost the plot.
Absolutely no scientific evidence for any of this

Lots of businesses are never coming back from this. She doesn't care as she,and all her cohorts , are getting paid regardless

user1487194234 · 13/01/2021 13:37

And still nothing on why they are so behind England with the vaccines

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 13/01/2021 13:37

Went to Dog Groomer. She said she's been reported to the council for staying open but didn't say what the outcome was. Said she's not entitled to any funding so has a choice of staying open or not getting any income. Says she totally understands how bad Covid is because her gran has it but not to worry cause she hasn't seen her GPs since xmas day....Hmm. I'm a bit worried now. Had my mask on and tried to keep distance. She had no mask on. I was only one there. I've been really good re: the rules but DDog really needed her coat seen to. Did I make a mistake Sad

anon444877 · 13/01/2021 13:38

Yes let's threaten firms with legal action, but they can completely legally decide a round of redundancies is in order. Did anyone hear the behaviourist on R4 talking about people needing to buy into the regulations and once you start threatening compliance decreases?

We're definitely down that rabbit hole and have been for some time.

I wasn't standing about the streets drinking quite yet anyway so not much to worry about here.

I do think there's a case for a supertax on companies that have made excess profits (Amazon etc) which nobody's mentioned...

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/01/2021 13:46

well, in order to pay more tax, first they'd have to pay some tax?

I am struggling to get any more fucked off with todays announcements than I already was. Nothing directly affects me to be honest so clearly I must be doing covid right and therefore also deserve a sticker - wee photo of NS with her thumbs up maybe?

I just don't fucking know anymore, might as well get the welding iron out and do it properly. See if you described our current situation as a movie no-one would fucking believe it could happen or want to go watch it either.

Invisimamma · 13/01/2021 13:50

@iwillneverbesatisfied that would shake me up too but try not to worry. If dog groomer had picked up covid from gp at Xmas she would likely have been symptomatic by now.

I don't understand the point of these new takeaway rules (the alcohol one, sort of). Will that really make any difference to transmission. My ds has football training tonight but lots are not sending their dc, now I don't know if I'm doing the right thing by letting him go.

anon444877 · 13/01/2021 13:56

Agree wax I'm surprised the whole Amazon tax debate hasn't been reopened in general - we've effectively got war time profiteers here, big winners, at the same time as most firms are losing.

Stickers, some sort of patronising covid awards for us?

rookiemere · 13/01/2021 13:57

@Invisimamma well it's snowing here so I wouldn't send him for that reason, but if it's not at your end I definitely would. Exercise is so important for DCs and who knows how long they'll be allowed to do football practice for.
On a related note DS14 is being asked by the school to log runs on strava for PE - absolutely brilliant idea. Except poor boy went out for a run on Monday and managed to delete rather than upload it to the school system.

AgentCooper · 13/01/2021 13:58

@Dinnafashyersel

Agent my 20 year old DD1 was skating in the puddles to entertain the toddlers yesterday. She felt bad when they copied her and ended up in a heap but they were fine in their snowsuits and still laughing. She also loves making them smile in the supermarket as do I.

People who judge do it in normal times - apparently you should always shop when your DC are in daycare or stick to on-line. Normal people don't. (Yet another MN debate I have to steer clear of to avoid accusations of Goady Fuckery).

@Dinnafashyersel your DD sounds like a lovely girl Flowers my wee one would have enjoyed that a lot! And you’re right, arseholes gonna arse, pandemic or not.
WaxOnFeckOff · 13/01/2021 14:01

Stickers, some sort of patronising covid awards for us?

Definitely, there could be a range with different pictures for different achievements or just different coloured backgrounds?

The John Swinney award for homeschooling excellence
The Jeane Freeman award for turning up at 4am for a vaccine on the last day of the month to make the figures look better
The Margaret Ferrier award for travel in times of adversity
The industry award for 2 meter chip chucking

These could be the new 2m cracker ideas.

AgentCooper · 13/01/2021 14:02

The Amazon business feels like such an elephant in the room. Are the govt scared to ask them to pay tax in case they decide to stop trading and cause all out riots because folk can’t get Prime? That’s not going to happen. Nobody has profited more out of this than they have. I ended up ordering wine off Amazon pantry when I had to self isolate and there were zero shopping delivery slots going (it was a present).

WouldBeGood · 13/01/2021 14:04

@Iwillneverbesatisfied it’s essential to your pet’s welfare to keep them groomed. Definitely the right thing to do.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/01/2021 14:04

Maybe Amazon could use their logistical expertise and resource to get vaccines distributed to the right places - for free?

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 13/01/2021 14:08

Its hard to know whats allowed anymore, the rules are so confusing and change all the time. I'll just carry on staying indoors as much as possible I guess. I'm vulnerable anyway and this was the first time I'd been out (other than medical appointments) in about a month.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/01/2021 14:10

Amazon could also donate stationery and deliver it etc for free. Not really seen them engaging in anything to support folk?

littlbrowndog · 13/01/2021 14:15

Yeah I heard that same behaviourist on radio 2. Said same

The more you clamp down on people the less they want to comply

Coquohvan · 13/01/2021 14:16

@Iwill there is a paragraph in the government guidelines under animal welfare allowing groomers to open. Our groomer got clarification from her MSP. On testing, which is very low, imagine if she did in fact test more the positive results will send her in a tail spin.

anon444877 · 13/01/2021 14:17

I had a good chuckle at these covid award ideas wax

I'm not sure why Amazon etc haven't been mentioned in a debate by Starmer at least - I've bought much more from them than normal and I'm sure that's typical. They benefit from selling so many items and people having confidence in their brand.

Not just them - these dodgy companies that have received govt contracts. Scrutiny desperately needed on their filings.

I thought going after Bezos himself to pay personal income tax was Corbyn pie in the sky - a stupid campaign about untouchable billionaires by Labour last time but the problem of multi-nats selling here and dodging corporation tax desperately needs raising again particularly given this crisis.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/01/2021 14:19

I'm surprised that ScotGov haven't gone after him separately and included the extra tax income in the Gers figures or white paper.

Lockdownbear · 13/01/2021 14:20

Did you miss the Facebook crack about that. Get Amazon to deliver the vaccine, everyone will have it by Monday, Saturday if you've got prime!
anon444877 · 13/01/2021 14:24

'And that'll be £1bn from bezos in back taxes, his top team of international accountants will be beaten by the new Scottish tax collector body which will of corpse cost peanuts to setup but be full of world class tax collecting experts who can solve a problem nobody else has managed to'.

That's what annoyed me, Corbyn said he was going after billionaires to pay income tax, but no idea how. Multi National tax paying is similarly complex but you have more levers against a company doing great business in your country than against a non resident individual...
