Are no essentials clothes, footwear, baby stuff, books -did she say?

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2021 12:51

How many shops are there who don't sell any of the things listed as essential? I thought it was "click and collect only for shops who sell x y z" but not "you can only collect x y z". This basically hurts small niche retailers if I picked up correctly

RaspberryCoulis · 13/01/2021 12:52

@WouldBeGood

And again, no evidence for any of this
Evidence? Who needs evidence?

She has to be seen to be doing something, anything. All the waffle about banning drinking outside - has she seen the weather? Who's sitting outside in the sleet, -4c with a bottle of wine? Nobody.

Dinnafashyersel · 13/01/2021 12:52

Seeing I think(?) click and collect was the only way to do "non-essential" shopping left so you couldn't do "normal way" (Amazon excepting as per)

LockdownSucksBalls · 13/01/2021 12:53

Does anyone else just think she has totally lost the plot? Ruth Davidson is right about the money btw we can't access it for my business yet

RaspberryCoulis · 13/01/2021 12:53

@runningpink

What does the last one about when you leave house mean? I don’t really understand what she changed
She meant it was a legal loophole - so you could leave the house to go to Tesco. Once you'd done your shopping, you could then decide to go and do something entirely frivolous and that is now NOT ALLOWED. Hmm
Sweetpotatoaddict · 13/01/2021 12:54

What on earth is the bit about not drinking outside....... I’m very Hmm about this. Does it spread covid? If I’m in the hot tub with my dh of an evening sharing a bottle does that increase my risk of covid?
It all sounds very clutching at straws.

FloraFocus · 13/01/2021 12:54

Ruth saying the SG is very good at making announcements, so true.

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2021 12:55

I think it was clothing, footwear, baby equipment, homewear and books. Obvious that will be in addition to places allowed to open so food, medicine, pet supplies etc

FloraFocus · 13/01/2021 12:55

I had heard about drinkers hanging about pub takeaways.

It means if you have to travel for work for instance from say Inverness to Glasgow you then can't decide to stay an extra few days if not working because you fancy it.

No idea how they are going to enforce that one though!

Exactly - if food, clothes, household goods and DIY materials are allowed to carry on, the only one I can think of which isn't in any of that is Hobbycraft. And of course all the little shops in my local high street which have been working SO hard on social media to provide click and collect for gift shops, picture framing and lots of other "non-essential" items.
runningpink · 13/01/2021 12:56

Thanks @RaspberryCoulis I understand now

Dinnafashyersel · 13/01/2021 12:59

Chip shop can still open but the staff need to hand over at the door. Doorway rather than over the counter with one in and one out is surely closer proximity or do they have to hurl the chips 2 metres?

So glad I don't work in retail or hospitality or their supply chain. Total nightmare and they have done nothing but bend over backwards in a desperate attempt to appease the endless lockdowners. It's disgusting.

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2021 12:59

Hobbycraft sells some books. And some food stuff. And I reckon stationery will get added imminently due to homeschooling.

Maybe Smyths? Oh no they do baby equipment

Scottishskifun · 13/01/2021 13:00

@HadEnoughOfBears

Just missed John Swinney's speech, anyone know what he said?
@hadenoughofbears not a lot! Recognise its tough especially for early learning. More funding for schools for equipment and teachers and funding for private nurseries. Looking at funding for childminders.

Basically suck it up and carry on but we will try and stop nurseries going bust! Pretty crap after scottish govt twitter made it seem like some big announcement for ELC!

Thanks.

My elderly DM told me last night that she’s now doing click and collect for food and grocery shopping so hopefully that will still be allowed.

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2021 13:03

I'm struggling to think of many big shops who won't be able to continue click and collect. On the other hand the little fabric shop, haberdashery, sewing machine repairs and sales place, wooden toys...probably all closed. Unless we sneak fabric under homewares and sewing machines too

Coquohvan · 13/01/2021 13:04

RD getting into her re grants as she should. Gyms personal to us, is struggling.
You know what, she promises the moon and gives us rocks. So over her!!
As for vaccines, give it to me I’ll do it myself, broke my leg early last year in Rome had to inject blood thinners daily before I could fly for 6 days. No problem. I’ll take my changes as not allergic to anything but her. 😀

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2021 13:05

@Scottishskifun i missed swinney, did he say anything about financial support for childcare providers? Lots aren't able to access the existing rates dependent support

Groovee · 13/01/2021 13:06

Did someone hear that we may be starting to test children at school?

WouldBeGood · 13/01/2021 13:08

A massive yes to this @Dinnafashyersel

And of course the big global chains will rake it in

WouldBeGood · 13/01/2021 13:09

And yes, I think she’s lost the plot.

littlbrowndog · 13/01/2021 13:11

I heard her voice on the radio and thought what an awful way to speak to the people you are meant to serve. And we pay you.

It sounded so authoritative

And it was a after a guy on the radio saying just telling people all the time what they are doing wrong and what we are going to do to you even more doesn’t work

It doesn’t fill us with hope and a good plan.

It’s just more and more stamping us down

Yes if they are currently open at a reduced capacity but not much on how it equates to each business
