Today was very full on with the homeschooling and I wasn't working myself, which I am tomorrow. We got everything done with only a few tears.

I hope they're breaking them in gently because the tasks that were set were very simplistic. E.g. My P6 was to play a times tables game, he has been confident in times tables for years. My P2 was to practise doubling numbers up to 10, again he can double numbers way beyond this for a while now. But it was only day 1 and hopefully we'll see some progression and differentiation in coming days and weeks.

My youngest dc also got quite upset at seeing on Teams that some children were in school. I explained the reasons why, but he still wants to go.

I'm sure today was about confidence building and IT shake-outs based on what we had here. First day back anyway wouldn't be when you'd break out the calculus in normal times.

randomsabreuse · 11/01/2021 15:07

I'm juggling a 2 year old and my P1 but 2 yo is fairly chilled and can play on his own for a bit. I'm also degree educated and not working so we're pretty well in the ideal situation. The difference between DD's opportunities and those of the children who don't have the tech options to run seesaw, unlimited broadband, money to throw at apps (and DH just bought the Songbirds books to allow screen free reading options) and parents who are both confident with maths will be massive. The difference for children with unengaged parents will be even bigger.

Middle class kids always have had advantages, they just got even bigger!

Although we found it all easy and quick I think the school was right to go in gently. We do have a "live" assembly on seesaw, everything else is prerecorded and uploaded as per lesson timetable!

@rookiemere

Infection numbers started going up again before schools reopened as I remember being confused as they reopened gyms early even though numbers going up which didn't make much sense if schools were the number one priority.
Gyms in Scotland opened 31/8 first time opened since March lock down. DD owns an independent gym. Not sure about the rest of the UK.
WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 15:40

@Coquohvan I really really want gyms to open again

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 11/01/2021 15:43

So DD (S2) had 5 google meets calls today so I'm pleased and she has come downstairs all chirpy and happy (compared to this morning lol) so I'm pleased overall. She's getting much more interaction.

Now she's STARVING and wants tea early.

I still have not heard back from dream job and want to cry Sad

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 15:53

@Iwillneverbesatisfied that’s good about dd!

Not good about dream job - hope you hear soon.

runningpink · 11/01/2021 15:57

@Iwillneverbesatisfied keeping everything crossed for you!

Well done to all juggling working from home and entertaining little kids and homeschooling the older ones!

Cake and wine most deserved for you all

The Aberdeen outbreak was at the beginning of August because I had a meal out booked and was worried it wouldn't go ahead. So numbers had already started going up (very gradually) by then. Mind you the numbers were so tiny then that a rise of 5 country - wide was noticeable.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 11/01/2021 16:19

Iwillneverbesatisfied urgh such horrible uncertainty I’m sorry

Gin for everyone fighting with technology today

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 11/01/2021 16:44

Apparently there are 1100 vaccination centres in Scotland - one for every 4,500 people if my calculations are about right Grin

As far as I remember reading percentage of people vaccinated in England and Scotland was v close, but I wonder if that'll change now that their big centres are open.

Groovee · 11/01/2021 17:02

I spent the day outside. Staff did the children's tasks and let them join in for milk and a story and check in when teams started working again. Then they came to just play the day away. I think they enjoyed their afternoon snack. 😂. I'm shattered now.

rookiemere · 11/01/2021 17:29

@Groovee windy day to be outside.

Groovee · 11/01/2021 17:41

@rookiemere that was just a wee bit blowy. Nursery are out all day usually. We're a hardy bunch 😂

Cismyfatarse · 11/01/2021 17:51

Long day at the screen face.

Hope everyone is well. Am shattered from the non-stop communicating. Totally avoidable mess today. 2 new pupils (such a shame for them).

These are NOT their real names. But sisters.

Amanda, nickname Mandy. So initial is A. E-Mail ASmith.

Miranda, nickname Andy. So initial is M. E-Mail MSmith.

Put the wrong way round in classes because you click and then just assume based on their names on the register which appear as their known as names.

The parents really should have thought this through. But sorted.

And breathe.

Any ideas for the next thread? We seem to be racing through them. Have we had Tiers before bedtime? Or, does anyone remember "No more tears" the shampoo.

Groovee · 11/01/2021 18:02

@Cismyfatarse Laughing about the name. It's so easily done.

My staff ipad had to be cleared to give to a child. Basically the school asked on the 21st Dec. Last week allocated devices to children and had them collected. Today Non stop emails saying, we can't do this on a phone. So bye bye iPad.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 11/01/2021 18:09

I vote "no more tiers"

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 11/01/2021 18:15

Have we had Tiers, Tiers and more Tiers yet?

Or Tiers of a Clown?

titsbumfannythelot · 11/01/2021 18:19

What about dancing with tiers in my eyes?

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 18:20

Yes to that @titsbumfannythelot 😂

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 18:20

No more tiers will tempt fate!

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 11/01/2021 18:36

Lets do a whitty and go for "don't tier the pants out of it"

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 11/01/2021 18:37

ooops it was Jonathon Van Tam

rookiemere · 11/01/2021 19:07

I do like "Dancing with tiers in my eyes" reflects my mood and reminds me that the threat of nuclear bomb would be worse than this - although I was a teen at the time so didn't bother me that much.

anon444877 · 11/01/2021 19:23

A bit of sanity saving dancing here today - I like the title. I've cracked my dc1's onenote issue after 12 hours, hooray!
