Angry SG being reactive rather than proactive as per. Who'd've thunk thousands trying to access Teams or whatever might just need extra capacity?!

What's the bets for when they get it sorted.

I have limited time in my work schedule to be available for the school work - dc are too young to manage any of the IT independently. So today's a write off!

Such fucking incompetence.

Rae36 · 11/01/2021 10:48

Teams failure here too. But at least Mumsnet is still working

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/01/2021 10:49

Managed to get DD up and running but trying to get the right version of onenote, running on the right office account, was way harder than it should have been. And she has her own laptop - this must be even more of a pain in the ass with multiple kids sharing

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 11:17

I take back what I said about Michelle Ballantine: she’s now in tow with Farage at ReformUk 😂😂

titsbumfannythelot · 11/01/2021 11:19

Talk about frying pan to fire.

Surely farage should just do one as he's achieved his mission.

randomsabreuse · 11/01/2021 11:19

DD's 1st lesson took about 5 minutes of the 1 hour slot. Did a maths factor thingy and a colour by numbers too before phonics.

Phonics took a bit longer but only because we did a big scavenger hunt.

Not as differentiated as homework last term was, hopefully will get tougher soon.

Definitely going to increase inequalities for children with engaged and educated SAHMs vs parents juggling work and other siblings...

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 12:42

Anyone else worried about more restrictions?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 11/01/2021 12:45

I missed the lunchtime briefing so I don't know if further restrictions were mentioned. I don't really care on a day to day level, we're already at home and keeping to ourselves. But if there's construction restrictions I'm quite likely to lose my job.

anon444877 · 11/01/2021 12:49

I'm thinking now we may well get more restrictions - I can't see that it'll matter that much to us though, home school and work hell is cramping our options quite a bit!

Honestly, it was easier when I was doing my own thing with the p1 - tempted to stick on bbc educational programming and get some work done - certainly don't blame the lovely teachers it's just shite with two on teams and trying to keep them both on track and not on YouTube or dreaming about better times!

Overrunning badly due to IT headaches and first day anxieties.

Hope others are having more luck!

Feeling rubbish about home schooling again. Not school/teachers fault as they’ve given decent tasks on google classroom to be completed. When I read I thought quite little there and we’d be done in half an hour. Except I forgot to factor in my P3’s blank face and upset at being asked to write or type anything (can’t type either so don’t think that helps) and the constant interruptions from my 4 yr old. Took an hour to do first assignment with me giving constant encouragement and realising I’m not a lovely patient person. Success as only one teary moment from child and I managed to wait until out of sight to have a breakdown. Feel like massive mum failure as not even trying to juggle work so no other pressures but I can’t handle the constant interruptions by 4yr old and stuck tv on for them so feel they missing out too. All in all it’s wet damp and miserable. I’ve been feeling low all weekend about prospect and today confirmed it’s rubbish. Sorry for moan.

anon444877 · 11/01/2021 13:20

I haven't even managed to start work yet today sparkling so not juggling it yet either! It'll get easier, they're all out of routine. We give up and have a dance for a bit when it's feeling bad.

I'm not sure that's the concern. I think it's more those who are neglected, not well fed, have never been read to, abused, etc. Those whose parents don't get them up in the morning, because they're not up themselves. Or even those whose parents didn't receive sufficient education themselves to help them at all.
rookiemere · 11/01/2021 13:56

Hats off to anyone with primary or nursery DC trying to do any home schooling - wfh or not. I'm just so grateful DS is in secondary school.

I can't see anything on BBC about tightening of restrictions, but I think Tuesdays are usually when she restricts our liberties further. Although this time there's slim pickings.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 11/01/2021 14:04

Surely they've got to give the restrictions more time. The numbers seem to have stabilised. We've been in lockdown for just over 2 weeks, but in reality there will have been mixing at Hogmanay, so surely she'll give it another week anyway.

Lockdownbear · 11/01/2021 14:08

I really am cursing them for closing nurseries.
The stress on parents, is horrendous. Trying to HS is hard enough without LO interrupting. LO naturally wants attention it's what kids do.

If my oldest was still in P1-3 I don't think I'd bother but at P5 I don't think I can just ignore HS.

SparklingDinosaurs · 11/01/2021 14:09

Yes @icanboogieboogiewoogie there are children this is going to impact so so much. There are children like mine who have s reasonable educated and more importantly concerned parent at home and that’s a struggle enough with younger sibling In mix, then kids whose parents are doing that and struggling to work at same time. Both circumstance suck but it’s nothing compared compared to the children you describe. Imagine being that child whose mum’s in bed hungover all day or too depressed to leave the room or there is no money for food or violence in the home. I’ll admit I am so sheltered but those kids are out there now at home not even getting the escape to school they probably rely on. It’s all very well saying schools are open for vulnerable but I’d imagine they need to be on some list (?) somewhere for that to actually happen and then how can the parent be forced to take their child to school?? What about all the low level neglect out there that social services aren’t involved in but I bet teacher are aware of kids in their classes that should be in school but can’t be. How are those children being helped??? Can they be? Genuinely don’t know what can be done for them or is being done for them.

I know your intention wasn’t to say “buck up moaners” but I’m going to take it as that because actually so what if my 4 yr old interrupts and I’m sticking them
In front of tv to give my p3 encouragement with their assignments. It’s fine. We’ll get through it and we are blooming lucky really. Thanks for reality check actually needed it.

Since when has stabilising numbers or even dropping numbers stopped them?

Curiosity question, at what point did restaurants reopen in Scotland / Glasgow and when did Eat out to Help out start?
I just can't remember the time lines?

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 11/01/2021 14:21

Restaurants reopened on 15 July.
EOTHO started in August.

rookiemere · 11/01/2021 14:22

@Lockdownbear eat out to help out was August. I know that when we went down to England on 10th July we were very excited at the motorway services in England that we could eat our Subway inside, so perhaps late July for relaxation of eating in guidelines in Scotland?

rookiemere · 11/01/2021 14:23

Infection numbers started going up again before schools reopened as I remember being confused as they reopened gyms early even though numbers going up which didn't make much sense if schools were the number one priority.

Lockdownbear · 11/01/2021 14:27

So only a couple of weeks before EOTHO. I just wondered if EOTHO was what forced the Scottish eateries to open.

Does that mean restraunts were, really only allowed to open for 6 weeks, mid July to 1st September?
I actually cant remember it's all a blurr in my mind.

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 11/01/2021 14:39

Not a bad morning with the home schooling - got through the tasks but did none of my own work so it’ll be a late night tonight

Very structured this time round. Set tasks for today, pushing them on with their learning. I’m quite pleased with the provision although if my workload escalates (which it will at some point) it will be very difficult.

That's been my experience of day 1 too.

DS (S1)'s art lesson (50mins) consisted of 'draw a colour wheel' which took him all of 10 mins. He did get some maths and a social subjects assignment (meant to cover 2 lessons) which took him about half an hour.

DD(S4)'s first lesson was a worksheet that took her about 15 mins and second was SE which consisted of the guidance teacher putting up a slide with links to mental health resources. Core PE - nothing, core RMPS - nothing. She does have some work for her afternoon classes, but we're talking a link to a couple of 5 min videos.

So my experience of day 1 is that it's a bit crap but ever so slightly less crap than April in that she has actually had 'live' input from 2 teachers.

Perihelion · 11/01/2021 14:56

All restaurants had to shut on the 9th October, don't know if there were earlier restrictions in Glasgow.
Then from November, could open in level 3 till 6pm, without serving alcohol.
Am so pleased that my new job means I've actually already done my last waitressing shift. Just a few more take away shifts and no fear of redundancy.

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 14:56

@Lockdownbear no, EOTHO was to coincide with English school holidays. Scottish restaurants had been open before then.
