I've tidied the kitchen. Lost 2lb this week.

Some of the decorations for DD's birthday have arrived. I have a recycling centre run later and I need to go to Tesco for boxes for some stuff to go in in the kitchen.

Feel quite calm about work tomorrow. I'm physically in. Will be good to get out and see colleagues and see some children. It won't be the same as seeing all my wee ones but I do think it will be good for me to get out.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/01/2021 13:33

I think so @Wbeezer, I used to have a very high metabolism, not so much now post menopause and with a DH with a physical job who does loads of exercise and 2 teen boys, the portion creep is real. I think having DS2 home has helped as I'm not making too much more when cooking but it's shared out further so i've cut mine back to a normal looking portion and if anyone else is hungry they can make toast later.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 10/01/2021 13:59

We're not going to the Mac and Cheese van - the queue is crazy!

Instead were attempting to make some sort of plaited bread thing. DD loves baking and I can tolerate watching her with a beer in my hand.

Wbeezer · 10/01/2021 14:01

At least with gannets in the house there's no chance of second helpings to tempt me and being a family of 5 means DH and I have to take it in turns having a cake or pudding from a packet of four.

Wbeezer · 10/01/2021 14:06

My strategy this year was to lose half a stone before Christmas so that i could eat cheese and Christmas cake without having to go on a full in diet in January. I was watching a history doc and found out that they used to fast for the whole of Advent and then feast for the 12 days of Christmas so it's traditional. I think i might do it every year, I really enjoyed all the food treats as i been on low fat rations.

At the risk of spoiling anyone's mood, I'll just leave this here and say WTAF?

Sigh

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/01/2021 14:15

Yep, @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us the first thing on everyone's mind should be independence and not getting the NHS back on it's feet, social issues dealt with etc.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 10/01/2021 14:20

At least they've dropped the pretense that there is anything else that matters to them.

anon444877 · 10/01/2021 14:41

It's the opposite of responsible - maximum chaos to get maximum votes and who cares about stability...not a surprise though, independence is the cure for any malady. It should be a comedy sketch.

WouldBeGood · 10/01/2021 14:48

That’s really appalling given the state of the country and how people are suffering.

Tomorrowisanewday · 10/01/2021 14:49

I may be wrong, but I think the SNP want the election in May, when despite everything, they wiil win a majority.

If they wait, they'll have the Salmond enquiry complete, education figures announced, care home deaths investigation complete, and GERS figures to contend with.

WouldBeGood · 10/01/2021 14:56

That could be tight @Tomorrowisanewday

I won’t even consider voting for independence just now with everything else up in the air.

I’d give it some proper thought it a couple of years when we see where we are, mainly because I’m a Europhile and want to be able to travel or live there, and to have those options for my children.

Now, I want peace! Not more constitutional uncertainty to add to the current mix if that and bloody Covid

Dinnafashyersel · 10/01/2021 15:20

Tomorrow that is what I had been thinking. However now it is someone else saying it my first thought was: wonder how they will cope if they DO win an outright majority and end up having to clear up all the mess while running an Independence Campaign?

Been out to see the cows, sheep and deer to give the car a run round my tier. Had to make sure the battery will cope with monthly trips to the supermarket less than a mile away. Often forget I have wildlife and wilderness so close to my urban domain. Feel much better for my trip out.

Lockdownbear · 10/01/2021 16:07

There are no words.
I just think the Salmond / Sturgeon thing could be what knocks the wheels of the wagon. Fingers crossed.

DH and I have both said we will seriously consider moving if Scotland gains independence. I just don't want to live with SNP rule and edging toward a communist state.

ladylunchalot · 10/01/2021 16:59

I've really struggled this weekend, just sick of the sight of my own 4 walls. It's been way too slippy outside to go walking, snow and ice are finally starting to melt a bit today which is good news.
I felt like this at the start of lock down last year but perked up as it turned into spring. Also feeling v guilty for sending ds to school tomorrow as I'm back to work. He's at an asn high school and they are brilliant but between the council and SG putting out messages about only sending kids in if you have to, it's not helping my feelings of guilt.
I have a feeling he will hate it as none of his friends will be there and me and dh will have to juggle shifts to keep him at home.
On a brighter note dd finally got discharged from gynae following her Sunday morning appointment, yaayyy.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 10/01/2021 17:00

A communist state? Come on Hmm

Tomorrowisanewday · 10/01/2021 17:27

Dinnafashyersel - I think now is the time the parties should be working together to come out of this with the society we want. The main problem we have is the dearth of political talent at Holyrood. To be fair, at Westminster too, but it seems more evident at Holyrood.

I've been reading a bit about federalism, cant help thinking that wouldn't be a better option rather tahn full out independence.

WouldBeGood · 10/01/2021 17:41

There’s an MSP called Michelle Ballantyne who is speaking publicly about the need for transparency on the Covid response, the consequences of lockdown and so on. Interesting to hear an MSP speaking out, which is quite sad.

I’m definitely for fewer borders not more.

I really don’t think now is the time to be starting to think again on the big issues like independence. More issues of trying to get some semblance of our lives back, and a little breathing space.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2021 17:44

Constitutional upheaval is a critical part of a pandemic response? Rightio fannybaws, remind me never to ask them what the essential ingredients are in lentil soup - I'll probably be told it's a new kitchen.

Tomorrowisanewday · 10/01/2021 17:45

WouldBeGood - I agree with you. I didnt vote for independence, and I didnt vote for Brexit, but I just think we need politicians to come together now to build a country we're proud of

Outsidemum1 · 10/01/2021 17:50

The UK Government has still not put in place any real travel restrictions. This reserved matter means that covid keeps being introduced into the country from abroad. I have a friend on holiday in Costa Rica at the moment. Lockdowns can only do so much with new strains continually introduced into the country. Just one example where being outwith the UK Government's control is much more beneficial for Scotland in the fight against Covid.

kurtrussellsbeard · 10/01/2021 17:50

Politicians working together to build the country together is a noble aim but not likely. They are oppositional political parties with similarly oppositional manifestos. It wouldn't make sense for them to pull together. They have very different ideas about what rebuilding a country looks like and the aims of it. For independence supporters now is exactly the time for it particularly given the lies, lies, lies and constant letdowns from the current Tory government.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 10/01/2021 18:02

I agree that now is the worst time for major constitutional upheaval, but going forward I have also thought that federalism might be a way out if the current divisions in Scottish society. I'm perfectly happy being British personally, but I also accept that many people feel the current arrangement isn't working and perhaps some kind of compromise position is a way to move forward. If I can retain my Britishness I think I could live with it.

WouldBeGood · 10/01/2021 18:06

I too am not wholly against a change. But not now! I’ve had enough, I’m exhausted with uncertainty and division.

It seems I’m not alone as polls are showing independence is not top of most people’s concerns.
