Groovee can I ask what sort of jaw surgery your daughter's to have? My DD has been told she's a candidate for jaw surgery, by the hospital orthodontists, but that it wouldn't be done till she's stopped growing at around 18. But would need to make a decision in the next year or so, so more fecking braces can shuffle her teeth around, pre surgery. I'd never heard of this being done before.

I think they'll crack down on takeaway alcohol and limit distance travelled for exercise.

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/01/2021 23:56

@Twintub

Maybe she means takeaways where you go q up not home delivery otherwise she would really need to ban amazon etc too I would say include Hermes but they deliver just better to the right place
Don't give her ideas re amazon
ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 08/01/2021 23:57

They can never take away my Amazon! Nooo!

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/01/2021 00:17

Remove deliveries and folk might be less placid. Homeschooling/kids at home is a lot easier when you can easily get materials for projects, new books and so on

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 09/01/2021 00:26

Anyone else averaging two parcels a day from
amazon or...?

Not so much really, I've lost the will to shop :(

I do have an exciting delivery coming tomorrow though, a new ironing board cover requested by DH and a new comb for the cat.

WouldBeGood · 09/01/2021 01:05

They should clearly vaccinate people who are more likely to die first. So old people and vulnerable

littlbrowndog · 09/01/2021 01:06

It’s like her arms are flailing about like octopus arms looking for things to restrict

Exercise no
Click collect no
Take always no

What’s left that we can do ?

Living the dream you are waxonfeck off 😂😂😎

I am indeed :o , I did have some of that gel stuff you use to clean a keyboard in my basket but I've saved that for another time - couldn't cope with any more excitement!
Lockdownbear · 09/01/2021 01:23

Very difficult to stop click n collect.

Other than flowers I can't think of much that could possibly be deemed 'non-essential'.

Buying a new sofa or carpet because you fancy a new one might be non essential buying a new one because your existing one has been damaged by flooding or stinks of vomit is maybe a bit more essential.

Joinery, plumbing and electrical are all essential to keep people safe.

Even what would normally be classed as entertainment could be essential. Telly getting used in conjunction with xbox for Google Classroom. An extra telly to access CBBC and BBC2 at the same time.

Clothing does actually wear out, I've only bought 2 t-shirts since March.
I need new trainers, my existing ones were getting old, then I stuffed my bare feet in them, spent the day in hospital, the next time I went to put them on they stank! Blush

runningpink · 09/01/2021 01:51

I wonder if the takeaway thing would be that you need to pre order and collect at specific time rather than just rock up to prevent big queues. Or they only do delivery.

Also around here for example Costa is open which I know for some getting a coffee is really important but I wonder if that’s just encouraging people to go out for something to do

A meal from a restaurant/takeaway is probably a lifeline for people who are working all day/juggling childcare etc whereas you could argue that a coffee is less so.

And with a takeaway coffee/cake might encourage people to sit on park benches or hang around together outdoors. Although it’s so bloomin cold just now that should be seen as an achievement.

Hope you know what I mean?

I don’t think she should stop this just my thoughts on it

Lockdownbear · 09/01/2021 02:01

I don't think they should stop coffee etc. We don't want to return to the days of the first lockdown where truckers couldn't get hot food, coffee or toilets.

A coffee on a park bench with a pal could well be a lifeline for people with MH issues. MH is much more fragile after a year of restrictions than it was in March.

I think the spread must be minimal from these type of places.

Her top jaw is too far back and her bottom jaw is too far forward. It gives her a lot of pain now. She should have had it at 20 but will be 21 now.
shouldistop · 09/01/2021 05:07

@WaxOnFeckOff how do you comb a cat without risking seriously injury Shock

Oh I totally agree with all this but it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what she does next.
WouldBeGood · 09/01/2021 07:48

None of it is really based on where it spreads or any logic.

Look At Lanarkshire and Glasgow... restrictions for months and months, masks, still spread.

She might have other things to think about this weekend after Salmond’s full on attack.

rookiemere · 09/01/2021 07:58

If she stops people meeting one person outside, I'm going to ask my friend if she's ok with breaking that and us still meeting up. I'll bring my own coffee in a flask if I need to - in the first lockdown we'd sit at the beer garden of a certain pub made infamous by Ms Sturgeon.

Discovered yesterday that DSs 2 week outward bound thing in May in Scotland is unlikely to go ahead. I feel so sad for him - it's meant to be the highlight of their school days. Also we were hoping to go to Lisbon for an adults trip whilst he was away. With this new strain and the SG ever so cautious decision making we'll be lucky to manage a trip to a Premier Inn in our own boundary in May.

WouldBeGood · 09/01/2021 08:00

@rookiemere that’s such a shame. DS missed his last year and it’s really sad. Plus we were going to go to Madrid!

rookiemere · 09/01/2021 08:05

Madrid is fabulous. I went with a friend a few years ago, they have a food hall that you buy tapas and many glasses of cava from and wander round tipsily.

SIL and BIL have just retired, plus we have an adult niece and nephew that have volunteered to come up if we want to go away, so I think we'll try to plan a shorter trip when we can without DS 14. Ive just put a date in the diary for our ladies weekend of September- but no venue . This September we had fun traveling round the Northern areas to ensure we were still allowed to talk to each other. Hilariously in Northumberland as we stayed the night restrictions went in, we could have dinner together but banned to separate tables for breakfast.

anon444877 · 09/01/2021 08:13

Staying in some of the paradores in Spain is well worth doing. It is 8 years since I've done that and been to Madrid but was wonderful and staff were lovely to my toddler making a terrible mess at dinner.

DollyMixtureLulus · 09/01/2021 08:15

I really feel banning takeaway coffee is too far, and I’ve generally accepted everything else. I’m single and meeting a friend now and then is a lifesaver.

Meanwhile, first day back with keyworker and vulnerable children and they’re all chattering on about NY parties and sleepovers!

WouldBeGood · 09/01/2021 08:15

@rookiemere I love the food hall thing.. perfect holiday activity as far as I’m concerned.

Hope you get away. I’m going to all the places the second we are freed!

rookiemere · 09/01/2021 08:20

@DollyMixtureLulus yes that's what's infuriating about all the rules. I'd imagine most folks on this thread are like me - we may grumble about them, but generally apart from minor infractions we keep to them.

Meanwhile there's a whole swathe of people who are just out there living their lives as they wish. Majority of infections are coming from care homes, hospitals and indoor gatherings so why further draconian restrictions on everything else.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 09/01/2021 08:22

I suspect you won't be allowed to go into cafes or restaurants to collect your food but deliveries will be permitted? Trying to close loopholes I guess. Local to us, there is an ice cream shop still open. How is that essential? Especially when its fucking baltic. So, I can see the thinking behind the takeaway changes.

In unrelated news, I'm depressed. Waiting to hear if I got my dream job. They told me 2 hours after the closing time of the first stage that I was through to the second stage, but the second stage closed yesterday and I haven't heard yet. I kind of hoped I'd hear equally as quickly. Its entirely home based, even after Covid, which would be ideal. arrrrgh. I hate the waiting.

anon444877 · 09/01/2021 08:25

Yes that's what I find most troubling - the wrong people are being perpetually scared by the threat of increasing restrictions as always.
