I hope that works. If not will try again Smile

Groovee · 08/01/2021 16:21

Thank you. I'm away to tell them people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

AgentCooper · 08/01/2021 16:41

Oh I hope they don’t take away informal childcare Sad I had to be furloughed April-August because I tried to work from home with my toddler but it just wasn’t possible. DH was working full time from home and is the main breadwinner so basically said he couldn’t take on any childcare. He wasn’t being a dick, what he said was true. But it drove a real wedge between us. I resented him so much, having gone from someone who left the house to work 3 days to someone who had to ask him if he could take DS so I could go to the toilet. It felt like any freedom I had had been completely taken away and my mental health took a massive nosedive, for months.

kurtrussellsbeard · 08/01/2021 16:50

Is there to be another announcement? I can't take any more.

kurtrussellsbeard · 08/01/2021 16:53

Thank you for posting that video. I have real issues with Ivor Cummins but the vit d stuff was great. There was another doctor making great videos about vit d. Can't remember his name. The subtle anti vaccine stuff wasn't great but overall a good watch!

WouldBeGood · 08/01/2021 16:57

DPs neurology consultant told us that everyone in Scotland should be taking high dose vitamin d a while back, pre Covid- yes, that long!

They’re talking about more restrictions as the roads are too busy so people must be disobeying 🤷🏻‍♀️

I

kurtrussellsbeard · 08/01/2021 17:15

I don't even know if it's disobeying but maybe just not taking it seriously enough. I suppose that's the same. My school for example probably needs about 4 members of staff in to legally supervise students. They are insisting that about double that come in each day because they are concerned about appearing fair. Understandable but that wasn't the vibe last time. Last time They looked for volunteers so that the minimum were in. I'd imagine similar is being replicated across employers. I know a fair few who were working from home before but not now.

kurtrussellsbeard · 08/01/2021 17:15

What more restrictions could there be? 😭

hilbil21 · 08/01/2021 17:19

@kurtrussellsbeard No problem. My uncle is not anti vaccine in the slightest, apart from the covid vaccine Grin

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 17:37

I don't know that it will be so much people not obeying the rules, more that more places are open, geared up for lockdown operation. People are doing what they need to do, inc go to work.

Lots of shops doing click n collect, Argos, Currys, garden centres. Take-aways are open, inc drive thru, Construction is open
Parks are open, Car garages are open
Essential support Bubbles are allowed.

Last time people didn't want to order "non-essential" because of worries about the postal and amazon guys. But now people are a bit more 'I need it can't wait months I'll just order'.

WouldBeGood · 08/01/2021 17:54

I think lockdown fatigue has set in. There’s a new vibe although still massive obedience

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/01/2021 18:00

I think you're right @WouldBeGood. People are going in to this drained - last time it was new, maybe even exciting in a "this is not the norm" kind of way. And people were scared too - last time round we had people pulling their children out before lockdown was announced. Not this time.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 08/01/2021 18:18

I don't think its deliberate disobedience either. In most cases I think its a combination of lockdown fatigue and COVID no longer being the big new scary thing it was in March. It's human nature to fear the unknown, but we've been living with COVID for a while now, and most who get it are fine. I certainly don't watch the updates anymore because I'm fed up with restrictions and just can't stand to hear about it. I'm not remotely surprised more parents want their children in school/nursery than last time as many will have used up leave/good will and know how difficult it was last time. They will also generally have been in school throughout months of high cases and been fine, so there isn't the fear of the disease there once was.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 18:25

There is also the thing of very young children, have spent a disproportionate amount of their lifetime under restriction, 1/4 or more, of you lifetime is huge. They probably don't even remember life before it.

It's the equivalent of a 40yo spending 10 years under restriction.

rookiemere · 08/01/2021 18:27

Well also last time we hadn't already been through months of half life. Mooched around the Gyle centre this afternoon for something to do, it was horrible with just a few shops open. Heard one of the shop assistants telling a nice old lady who was saying how good it was to see clothes for sale, that the clothing section would likely be shut soon.

Still according to travelling tabby over 2% of the population now vaccinated in Scotland and that's with the Christmas period and the more complex to store vaccine. I'm trying to remain positive that the vaccine roll out will sort this out.

My cousin is in the medical profession on a phone basis, they've been told no leave until the end of March, but at that point they're expecting it to start being a lot less busy - I'm not sure exactly what she does but she says it's like the overspill from GPs or some. So that's the opinion of a non biased pharmaceutical company- 3 months of rubbish then it should get better at Easter. I do hope so.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 08/01/2021 18:46

@rookiemere I hope so. We should have more tools at our disposal this time, test and trace and vaccinations. If it doesn’t get better then it’s a huge failing from the government.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 18:54

Rookie Easter is what I've been thinking, by then the vaccine will be making a huge impact and the better weather.

I cant decide if it's a good thing or a bag thing to hear big pharma are thinking the same thing.

AgentCooper · 08/01/2021 19:03

With regard to vit D, I tested deficient in August (when it should have been at its highest) and have been taking a high dose since. I definitely was the least affected by Covid from my family. DH’s sense of taste and smell is still intermittent after 3 weeks whereas mine returned about 5 days in.

I do think it helps my mood too. I don’t feel great but I know nobody does right now. However I’m not throwing up with anxiety and not sleeping as I was in summer.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 08/01/2021 19:08

My cousin has just caught Covid for the second time. He's in the police.

Groovee · 08/01/2021 19:17

@Iwillneverbesatisfied your poor cousin. Wishing a safe recovery for your cousin x

anon444877 · 08/01/2021 19:38

How awful iwill hoping for a speedy recovery for him.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 19:43

I hope he has a speedy recovery!

Very interesting in the VitD thing. I don't remember anything getting said when I was expecting DS1, but it was recommended with DS2 who's 4, I'm sure I had pills that was a folic acid / vitamin D. But there was a hint that ethnic minority were more at risk or something.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 08/01/2021 20:08

I think I read that darker skin doesn't absorb vit D as well as lighter skin does. But I could be wrong.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 20:13

Icanboogie - yes but I can't remember exactly how they worded it.

AgentCooper · 08/01/2021 20:25

@icanboogieboogiewoogie

I think I read that darker skin doesn't absorb vit D as well as lighter skin does. But I could be wrong.
This is true. It’s to do with pigmentation hindering absorption. I think there’s a lot behind the theory that low vit D is a big cause of Covid affecting BAME people worse.
