Jumpers still count as essential though?

First day back at work, i'm half way through my 4 hour target and my eldest dc has only interrupted me 5 times. Arghhhh. Naturally had to come and mention it, distracting myself further.

WouldBeGood · 08/01/2021 14:23

@kurtrussellsbeard 4000 IU - I get it on Amazon.

I've got my parents on this vit d too - my DM swears it helps.

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/01/2021 14:36

I use the vit d spray - rapid absorption

More restrictions? We must stay 2m apart from our own households? No exercise? Closing construction and manufacturing? Restricting deliveries? There's little left

littlbrowndog · 08/01/2021 14:40

Welded into our socially distanced wardrobes

Ebhc · 08/01/2021 14:41

@RaspberryCoulis it looks like ours might be the same. They've been very vague but sent a message saying children will register each day and a reminder not to record live sessions. That's the first mention of live sessions! Shame there's no timetable to plan in advance as DS and I will be sharing the laptop but it does seem more promising than last year.

anon444877 · 08/01/2021 14:49

I suppose they could take away informal childcare on pain of fines - let's hope that doesn't happen!

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 14:58

I'm no IT guru but depending on the platform, live sessions could be made available to be watched for a limited period of time, they also have the ability to stop recording of them.

I don't know if anyone else has watched any 'live' music but that seems to be the way they do it. You log in you can watch it and they are usually available to re watch or watch at a more suitable time for a few day.

That would help kids whose wifi won't take multiple kids watching stuff at the same time.

Thinking about the comments about kids not having their own space to listen or study.
Average family of 4 in a 2 bed house. That's a kid in each bedroom, mum in living room, dad in the kitchen.
There can't be many families who have more kids than rooms, and headphones are also an option to stop noise pollution if people are sharing rooms.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 15:03

The better not take away informal childcare.

I'm considering asking DMum to take my youngest a couple of days, so I can get the oldest to Homeschool and get some of my own work done, it benefits her by giving her something to do, and saves the LO becoming a couch potato.

But I'm worried about potentially exposing her to the virus though. But she'll go mad sitting in the house with nothing to do.

Coquohvan · 08/01/2021 15:06

I agree supplementary vitamins are very beneficial. My GP said to take gel type if possible.
DH and I take
Vit D - K2 - Zinc - Magnesium- Omega3
I also take a bone strengthening Osteotrition as I broke a bone last year.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 15:06

I guess it depends @Lockdownbear, friend is WFH and has 3 kids, 3 bedrooms but her DH works nightshift and her downstairs is open plan, her uni age DC is feeling isolated in his room so usually works at the dining table with her but can't do that really if on calls and then younger two share a room but noise can be an issue with her DH sleeping so she had one sitting in the living room using the ironing board as a desk. They manage but if you had less rooms or more DC or were on calls that needed to be private or dodgy wifi in an older type home. Then DC might not have a desk or room for one in their bedroom and also not good to be sitting on their bed all day.

I can see how it could be manageable for many and also how it might be awkward for some. Just many different scenarios I guess.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 15:11

I guess that the downside of open plan. I was thinking of what we'd have done if we still lived in our what was my childhood home (2 bed council flat)

Even at that neither of my DParents could have worked from home.

WouldBeGood · 08/01/2021 15:13

So we have the timetable. Assignments to be handed in via google classroom.

There is PE on it too.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

yes I know, I have a modern house but not so open plan, plus have 4 bedrooms and 2 kids (well adults really) and a separate study and 2nd livingroom and DH works out the house. Superfast broadband, plenty of tech. So wouldn't be so much of an issue for me but not required fortunately. At one point (when schools were in) we did talk about friend (and colleague) coming to work in my house for a change of scene. She could have her own key to the door that leads to it's own room and we could shout down the hall to each other :o
Dinnafashyersel · 08/01/2021 15:27

We have 3 DC and a 2 bed flat. One of the many reasons DD1 didn't come home from Uni as we were both fully expecting current state of affairs.

Our flat is big and open plan. We are not deprived by any stretch of the imagination but 5 of us WFH is more people than rooms. We actually have a full sized table in our kitchen but loads of people don't and even if they do it is not straightforward to cook and do laundry around a homeworker/studier in mid conference call. Bad enough when I am getting dressed in our bedroom around DH's home office.

I don't think confining primary school age and below DC (or even teens and young adults) to one room unsupervised for much of the day is practical/possible/desirable either- despite my earlier comments about ignoring them when they are sitting next to me bending my ear incessantly.

Did anyone see that tweet about the Evernote scannable app?

Uses phone camera to scan (and auto format) and convert to pdf for easy sending of written work to teachers.

I've got a scanner on my printer but it's much more time consuming than this app.

WouldBeGood · 08/01/2021 15:39

@anon444877 I’ve had that for a while, it’s great

anon444877 · 08/01/2021 15:47

I wish I'd thought to look for it before @WouldBeGood ! I hate my printer scanner it's a piece of rubbish. Do not buy a printer in the amazon sales without doing good research...

Groovee · 08/01/2021 15:49

Are there new restrictions today? A family member has been bellowing at me for going for a walk with a friend claiming I'm the reason that Covid is spreading. The issue is this family member had symptoms in March and went away for the weekend as well as not isolating anytime they were ill. They often travel to a city to "get out for the day".

I can't find anything anywhere.

Ebhc · 08/01/2021 15:59

Oh I'll look at the app. My printer/scanner takes about a year just to switch on.

WouldBeGood · 08/01/2021 16:04

No new restrictions I don’t think. Just a build up to it with loads of doom.

hilbil21 · 08/01/2021 16:05

My uncle has been working with two doctors on trying to get the benefits of vitamin d (covid wise) to the wider public. There's a video on YouTube if anyone would like the link. It's very interesting.... and I'm not just biased Smile

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 16:08

I didn't watch @groovee but i think more rows and threats but no changes as such.

Just been having a bit of a "discussion" on the FB Uni page about students going home with someone who thinks it's their own fault and they shouldn't have come home in the first place and they should just stay home now. This is despite it being pointed out that a lot of them have their notes/PCs etc in their private uni accommodation that they've paid for and that they've been tested before coming home, can travel independent of public transport and can be tested or isolate when they are back. Because it's absolutely correct for adults to be confined to their bedrooms in their parents houses with none of their study material whilst paying for an empty flat and being reduced to being a child. Also that some of them were only 17/18 at Christmas and hadn't been home since August, might have been accommodation by themselves etc, but yes, they should have just stayed there for Christmas after their negative tests Hmm

I'm back to it driving me bananas again...

sounds good @hilbil21, link away, people don't have to click if they don't want to, it's an invitation not a summons Smile
WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 16:10

...and probably outed myself to anyone else on the FB page - oh well...
