I have sorel boots, gum boot style on the bottoms and material on the top so nice balance between waterproof and flexible. I bought mine one ebay for £20 though and Amazon prices are mad just now 😬. Recommendation for next year though if that’s any help

Direwolfwrangler · 08/01/2021 12:15

I have mountain warehouse snow boots and I love them! So warm and keep feet very dry. I hit them on sale for around £40

runningpink · 08/01/2021 12:15

@WaxOnFeckOff

yes, good chance that be less than 7 days, their arrival will herald a non seasonal heatwave :o
And you can all thank me when we are basking in a heatwave in January! 😂
Direwolfwrangler · 08/01/2021 12:15

*got not hit!

Dinnafashyersel · 08/01/2021 12:32

Feel your DH's pain on the car front Wax. Mine is also 10 years old and a rare breed because it is a petrol automatic estate. Cost an arm and a leg to get the exhaust fixed last time because lots of the manufacturers have next to know spare part production atm. KwikFit were fantastic even if they were thoroughly embarrassed at how much it cost-still cheaper than replacing my car, which I love and is otherwise in good nick.

Wary of replacing my car just now because I strongly suspect a lot of the "new" stock has been sitting around for a long time.

Just had to replace my washing machine and lots of the comments and reviews on brands I opted against were about machines which had faults because they had been sitting around in warehouses too long.

Dinnafashyersel · 08/01/2021 12:34

On the plus side DD3 has finally realised it is actually far more fun to play out front without me to "keep her company" (usually translates as grumble about the cold and get ratty).

Groovee · 08/01/2021 12:53

I started taking vitamin D last year and I've noticed a huge improvement bearing in mind what the last 8 weeks have been. I've added in Vitamin C and zinc and vitamin B12 and B6. I do eat a good diet and I've made a huge point to exercise and it's made a huge difference. I've stop getting cold sores and I don't feel so low.

Outsidemum1 · 08/01/2021 12:56

Yip. High strength vitamin D is a game changer!

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 12:58

Good news & bad news.

Another vaccine is approved
Students to stay home until end of February, I doubt schools will be back much before them.

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/01/2021 12:58

Vit d helps me massively

Delightful discovery this morning; for anyone who was furloughed last time their furlough pay reference period is their pre march salary/hours. Anyone who has been promoted, had a pay rise or increased hours (or a combo of the 3) gets seriously screwed. That includes minimum wage rises btw

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 13:18

My student won't be staying here until end of February, all his stuff including the computer with all his work on it and that he needs to do on-line classes is up there. He's paid his rent and will travel up in his own car and isolate or get a test if available.

@Dinnafashyersel, yes, DH has a petrol manual with an older engine, it runs really well and when he hit a red deer stag about 3 months in, all it needed was a new light cover and a small repair to a crack in the bumper. So we've always felt very safe and he loves to drive it. It's low mileage and only ever been driven by him and has passed it's MOT first time every time. The newer model of the same car still gets good ratings but to him, just didn't feel as solid. It's also an estate and thinking that we might not really need one anymore though it comes in handy. DSs and I have a couple of small city cars we share. He has a significant birthday at the end of this year and technically could retire then so I'm trying to suggest that that would be a good time for a treat. He's thinking to work on in current job a couple years after tat so thinks better holding on until then. I guess it's no skin of my nose either way.

kurtrussellsbeard · 08/01/2021 13:20

What is high strength vit d ? What is it I'm looking for? I do take it but not high strength I don't think

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 08/01/2021 13:29

When the repair bills exceed the value of the car, it's usually time for it to go.

Scottishskifun · 08/01/2021 13:31

It's a higher dose level it's recommended if older. Boots etc sell it online.
Ebhc · 08/01/2021 13:32

I got 2000iu vitamin d in home bargains but I think you can get up to 4000iu.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 13:37

@ICouldHaveCheckedFirst

Yep, not at that stage yet, most bills have been for tyres, a couple of wiper blades, a few bulbs, that thing you get replaced every so many years/miles and some brake pads. Nothing much so I guess even the noise of the exhaust might be a small thing, it was MOTd and serviced in October. But the value is diminishing and would only be worth about £3k trade in I think. And replacement is now about £23-25k!
Ruled · 08/01/2021 13:40

God the news of even more restrictions if we don't behave.

fluffyugg · 08/01/2021 13:49

I don't think we can be restricted any further?!

rookiemere · 08/01/2021 13:52

On the BBC it says click and collect being restricted to essential items only Hmmand there is the obvious one of being allowed to meet one person outside which doesn't generate any money so bound to be an obvious candidate.

You can see it on the roads - a lot more traffic than the first lockdown. It is difficult as the new strain does seem to be spreading quickly- what's the new infections for today ? - but I think I'd have more appetite for this if restrictions had been relaxed when they could have been much more in the summer.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 13:57

I was thinking last night that if they can get supplies out to more places then you could roll out faster by say vaccinating everyone who touches any part of the health services while they are there if they meet the criteria to be in the top 5 or 6 priority groups. i.e. Going for a breast scan and 65 or over or CEV then just get done there, having an outpatient appointment or GP appointment same, and if they rolled out to chemists and opticians and dentist etc then could be done then. Clearly I'm not a logistics expert but could see it being able to work in some capacity?

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 13:58

I've not been out but DH says traffic more or less normal whereas in March/April etc it was very quiet.

Lockdownbear · 08/01/2021 14:03

March / April construction was stopped.

While nobody wants to end up like London. We need to keep the economy rolling. Very hard balance to hit.

littlbrowndog · 08/01/2021 14:07

I take 4000 d3. Got it of Amazon

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 08/01/2021 14:07

Still, looked on travelling tabby and there were no cases in our town last week. Still seems too far to shut schools, I can’t see it having any impact on hospitalisations, the cases went up after schools shut, it’s another case of causality and correlation, but we will be stuck in a lockdown because cases will eventually go down and it will be “because schools shut”.

RaspberryCoulis · 08/01/2021 14:13

Well I retract all previous comments about how shit our school has been at online school because they appear to have turned things around dramatically.

All kids need to be logged in, every day at 8.50 for registration and will then follow their normal timetable. Not all departments offering live classes, but many are doing narrated presentations with set times where teachers will be online to support.

SO much better than what we were offered in summer term.
