@makingitupaswegoon yes what you say makes sense. You would hope that they would have really very carefully strategised this. I assume supplies will dry up given world demand so they really cannot put a foot wrong here.

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 16:35

I thought the Scottish government were also going to prioritize unpaid carers for the vaccination. Have they been bumped back now for teachers?

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 16:36

@Peppafrig no no not if you're taking that from my post. That was just me wondering if that was the order they would do it in. I know nothing!

Outsidemum1 · 04/01/2021 16:37

Baroness Ruth, the representative of the people (!)

The fact is, the SG don't have the powers to control the Scottish border. The situation in London and the SE was allowed to get out of control as the government didn't take action to curb the spread. * and threatened legal action on severely hit councils who were advised to shut schools by public health.
SAGE said people travelling across the UK in the run up to Christmas will spread the new variant and cases will rise and that's exactly what's happened.

The shambolic return to the school term today demonstrates how dangerously incompetent the Conservatives are.

See attached the SAGE findings re transmission from children. The Scottish cabinet have made the right decision.

Do we really want to wait until we hit closer to 900 cases per capita here?

As a teacher I wouldn't be happy to be vaccinated over the vulnerable. Though I suppose it is less about protecting me and more about making schools reopen faster?
As things stand education staff (and it needs to be PSAs etc not just teachers) aren't anywhere on the priority list so I think putting us on it somewhere is a good move forward.
At least schools here aren't going to mess around with lateral flow testing of all pupils as planned in England (which I believe is not going well so far!)

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 16:38

@ikswobel her accepting the peerage from him was the turning point for me. As well as her NI border u turn. Nothing to admire about her at all sadly.

ikswobel · 04/01/2021 16:39

Totally @rookiemere I know loads of people on here don't share my politics and I respect that, I don't want a politics free Scotsnet but on the other hand it's wrong for ANY posters to assume that we all have to have the same opinion to be valid people who could actually support each other. I love coming here, I feel we somehow all know each other and share common experiences. Could we not just be a bit like Scotland really is in real life, where we all rub along somehow despite our differences?

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 04/01/2021 16:39

@ikswobel the 23rd December minutes are not there though? For the education recovery group. I know a lot of people won’t bother to read them but I was trying to gauge what they were thinking regarding schools, and found it reassuring, but obviously she doesn’t want to listen to her advisory groups on education!

ikswobel · 04/01/2021 16:40

In fact @WaxOnFeckOff it's probably time for a new cosy comforting thread pretty please

anon444877 · 04/01/2021 16:41

my overriding sense from today was disappointment that the vaccine roll out is so slow and not enough detail given - we expected more restrictions and the further school shut down was heavily leaked, but not much hope in the vaccine roll out details we heard.

I agree rookie these announcements are a huge build up of pressure and this one is pretty tough.

ThanksCakeWineto everyone

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 16:41

@kurtrussellsbeard No not at all. It’s just she made a song and dance about being the only country prioritizing unpaid carers etc etc. Now she is prioritizing teaches I just wondered why she wasn’t so vocal about those who were promised it now being putting down the list .

NotAnActualSheep · 04/01/2021 16:43

@kurtrussellsbeard

Schools being open isn't safe in terms of the wider impact it has on transmission.
  • kids are bringing the virus home from school
  • kids mixing in school encourages neighbours and friends to mix if they have children in the same schools
  • kids are mixing households due to car sharing, shared pick ups and so on
  • schools being open gives us an overall sense of normality that encourages people to break rules/ relax (oh well they're mixing in school anyway)

Like it or not this is a pandemic and it's the government's responsibility to save as many lives as they can. Particularly now that an end is in sight.

Is this the view of the SG, or is this your interpretation of the reason for closures? Please could you link to the SG document where this is stated if the former (sorry if you already have... fast moving thread this afternoon!)
kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 16:45

No no just my very humble opinion!

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 16:45

Agree with @rookiemere and @anon444877

Bad day all round.

Israel planning to have their population of 9million vaccinated by mid March. I just don’t get why it’s so slow here.

For the record, I loathe all politicians.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 16:45

@Peppafrig is she actually prioritising teachers? God that was just a guess on my part! Is there a vaccine plan? Does anyone have a link?

PapsofJura · 04/01/2021 16:46

I’m just relieved that the kids can still play out together as that will really help them.

The rest is just a continuation of the same shite. But now that I am working from home I will be able to watch out for the first snowdrops appearing in my garden so something to look forward to.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 04/01/2021 16:46

I enjoy the whole Scotsnet section. These threads about the restrictions are invaluable. Please can we keep party politics out of them? Fine to slag off the SG/NS for decisions, and the impact of these decisions; not fine to tell another poster to fuck off because of not being sufficiently anti-SNP.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 16:46

@WouldBeGood agreed. I can't understand why a vaccination program would take months. I can only assume they don't have adequate supplies to make it happen because I think logistically it would be relatively straightforward.

👏🏻 exactly!

@ikswobel

In fact *@WaxOnFeckOff* it's probably time for a new cosy comforting thread pretty please
I think @Lidlfix started the last one, she is definitely much more cosy and comforting than me. I know you and I don't agree politically but we mostly seem to be able to rumble along ok. These threads are supposed to be about challenging what is happening which invariably means a bit of slagging off of the incumbent leader.

It's hard to slag off others even within the party as we very rarely see them, including the now "resigned" head of public health who only became news when he went. And the opposition are particularly weak, but they aren't in charge.

Some posters they seem to be only ever able to support and that's just weird. Even when a party I voted for was in power, I think I still disagreed with them half the time. I mean, present company excepted, who is perfect and always does a brilliant job? :o

rookiemere · 04/01/2021 16:49

@PapsofJura sadly no playing out for teenage children. Have to admit I'm glad the weather is so dismal as hopefully DS14 won't notice the lack of rugby and football with his pals so much.

NotAnActualSheep · 04/01/2021 16:50

@Groovee

Just catching up. I reckon the earliest schools will be back will be the 16th February.

Our holidays start on the 5th, so there's no chance we'll go back for 5 days. I'm happy to be proved wrong though.

Am a wee bit concerned about my grief etc. I was finding work helpful. But being at home working alone while ds floats about and DD may have to do remote learning as part of her placement.

But glad I know now that we're in lockdown for her 21st x

I'm so sorry groovee Flowers I hadn't even considered this aspect of "busyness" helping with grief now having been taken away. Hope you're coping OK, all things considering. Sad
ikswobel · 04/01/2021 16:52

@WaxOnFeckOff me! I'm perfect! And you too of course.
We are all pretty perfect on Scotsnet I think. Maybe it's good we can actually discuss these things? Everyone is getting a bit stressed today though.
@Lidlfix would you be able to start another cosy thread Thanks

titsbumfannythelot · 04/01/2021 16:53

There's still room to post on the other thread. I'll say something inane (as usual) to get it to the top of scotsnet.

NotAnActualSheep · 04/01/2021 16:54

@rookiemere

I'm feeling a bit fragile today because of the announcement, and I know I'm going to sound really drippy but I wish we could be respectful whilst agreeing to disagree. These threads have been a source of comfort to me and I think we're all on edge due to the new restrictions, so maybe we could move back to normal service?
This with a zillion knobs and flashing no-longer-seasonal fairy lights all round.
