Ivor Cummings, sounds so reasonable, but is full of shite imo.
If you have symptoms, aren't tested and just stay at home, would you do 10 days SI or get back to the world as soon as symptoms have gone? What about the people you live with?

Bytheloch · 29/12/2020 23:55

@Scottishskifun

*If you have symptoms it’s not necessary to get a test. You should stay at home*

This is the exact opposite of the advice which was changed when mass testing was brought in. In April this was the advice because they did not have capacity now they do.

It is vital to get a test in order for the track and trace process to work and ensure that any close contacts also isolate as otherwise its allowed to spread into the community for a longer period of time. This is especially important for people who are asystomatic.

Any of the symptoms you should book a test for and isolate until the results if negative or the end of the isolation period if positive

Truly, I’m not interested in the number of positive test results. The majority of folk have to travel to a test centre, so are clearly well enough to do so. Only the hospital loads and deaths are relevant, particularly at the moment as all we’re seeing is alarmist headlines about hospital overload- when that isn’t the case here in Scotland. But that’s my way of dealing with the current shitshow we’re going through and yet another intensive lock down looming based on very little evidence they work. When the mental health of the nation is damaged, it won’t be a quick fix by some sunshine come the springtime, it’s almost irreversible and no support services will be available to pick up the pieces.

Get back to what world exactly?

I had it in March, no testing available, I did what I was supposed to, stayed at home with the rest of my family and worked from home. As for the rest of the family, they had to stay at home for 2 weeks, DH also caught it and DS had no symptoms, maybe he had it maybe not.

Testing made no difference and nothing has really improved since has it? Lock downs, tracking etc, it's made absolutely no difference on a society level. If you are, or live with someone vulnerable then shielding is a good idea, we should facilitate that for those that need/want that. Give people information, guidance, support and a bit of control over their own lives.

@ikswobel that thread is classic mumsnet scaremongering.

Bikingbear · 30/12/2020 01:33
@bikingbear not sure which one was posted before, probably one of Ivor Cummings ones - maybe this one?
Not listened to it all the way through so possibly not the same one:

Hurrah the Oxford vaccine has been approved. I do have this horrible feeling- hopefully unjustified- that Scotland appears not to be as gung ho as England in getting it rolled out.

Our army appears to be being used for testing and they're advertising admin positions to coordinate the vaccine roll out, and I've only heard of one building in Edinburgh-EICC being used for vaccination whereas there were a few for flu jabs.

Fingers crossed though that it does start getting delivered fast. I'd like to hear targets for Scotland as well - but to be fair it's breaking news.

Coquohvan · 30/12/2020 08:13

Great news in this morning. Astra/Cambridge vaccine has been approved.

anon444877 · 30/12/2020 08:14

Just read that re Oxford - hoooray, hooray.

We need this to reboot the failed restrictions based strategies which have worked almost nowhere around the world...

We need at least as much daily emphasis on the number of vaccinations delivered as we do on the other numbers reported.

Coquohvan · 30/12/2020 08:16

So happy typed wrong Uni. -:)

anon444877 · 30/12/2020 08:17

I hope they're looking at extending the working day to deliver vaccines and rostering on more staff, walk in and wait clinics - anything to try any get more people through faster.

rookiemere · 30/12/2020 08:25

@anon444877 and being creative at thinking about using private companies such as Boots who already have the infrastructure to roll out a flu vaccine. Even controversially once we have enough stock letting people in the eligible groups pay for it in order to get it faster in exactly the same way we do with the flu vaccine.

This is what we should be throwing money at to get it done as quickly as possible as this is the key to going back to normal, forget £100 shopping bribes.I feel we should be repurposing the testing sites as well for vaccination.

NearWildHeaven · 30/12/2020 08:30

@rookiemere I know a relative (NHS) got her vaccination in a local council building so I do think / hope they'll be creative about using available space

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 30/12/2020 08:58

They did the Glasgow City Council flu vaccines in the concert hall. And didn't they say the flu vaccinations were a practice run for the covid one?

RaspberryCoulis · 30/12/2020 09:00
@rookiemere I know a relative (NHS) got her vaccination in a local council building so I do think / hope they'll be creative about using available space
Yes they have been using the Town Hall near here too. They really need to be looking at a massive, massive space - somewhere like the Highland Show ground, or Glasgow airport. People arriving in their thousands, Army directing you into a queue. Hundreds of nurses/medical students, jabbing quickly, move on to the next.

I'm not fussed who gives me the vaccine. It's not tricky.

DollyMixtureLulus · 30/12/2020 09:03

I heard a rumour that the Glasgow Louisa Jordan was being used. I will emphasise rumour!

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 30/12/2020 09:11

That makes sense, lots of parking etc

My neighbour who is an optometrist was vaccinated yesterday. I'm assuming because he will go on to administer the vaccine himself. Surely opticians and dental practices could also be used?

fluffyugg · 30/12/2020 09:12

Vaccine news is fantastic, it will make living with the restrictions a lot easier if we know that they are going hell for leather vaccinating people

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 30/12/2020 09:16

Hopefully any briefing over the next few days will give an indication of the plan

OP posts:
DollyMixtureLulus · 30/12/2020 09:16

I knew I was getting old and mean when my first thought was about the parking charges there Blush

anon444877 · 30/12/2020 09:19

I don't think we do know that yet - given the level of effort put into the restrictions and the privations faced by people, the rollout plan and extra steps being taken should be shared with us all urgently.

I agree that I would feel better if I had concrete evidence that the govt was in detail doing everything possible including roping in boots, mobile units, all possible avenues for distraction.

Early days but I'd hope to see detailed roll out plans by Tuesday's briefing.

anon444877 · 30/12/2020 09:23

Distraction? Distribution! I'm distracted by the exciting news clearly.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/12/2020 09:33

Anyone know if there are issues for those with allergic reactions?

DH in that category and given I'm still scratching (though obviously not as badly) nearly 2 weeks after developing the issue with antibiotics, I'm a bit wary myself as I'm clearly still having allergic type issues.

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2020 09:33

Hurray for another vaccine!

I agree that all efforts now need to be on getting that done, not mass testing, nor prolonged lockdown.

Outsidemum1 · 30/12/2020 09:35

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

I tend to agree with *@StatisticallyChallenged* that the SNP's opposition to the deal is pure posturing at this point (and I love the McDonald's analogy, that is do totally it!). Leaving aside that in 2014 the SNP were perfectly happy to leave the EU, it's done now, we left in January. There is no 'remain' option on the table, independent country or not, because we are not currently part of the EU. The question on the table right now is do we accept the trade deal already ratified by all other EU countries or instead vote to reject the deal. Despite all their posturing about No Deal being a disaster, it seems the SNP would prefer that to voting with the Tories, which seems a bit childish frankly. Labour's position is much more principled IMO.

I'd also personally prefer it if the Scottish parliament didn't waste its time with symbolic debates and votes over matters that are outside its remit, and instead concentrated on doing a better job in the many things within its remit.

You realise , as StarryEye said, that Scottish Labour are voting against the deal also? Looks to be only the Scottish Tories voting in favour. And no, I'm not persuading you to join the SNP before anyone starts that rubbish with me.
