While it's common for people to be skint after Christmas, a lot of people will still have cash this year, given there's been no nights out, big office parties, even young folk who've not been able to go clubbing for month.

Groovee · 27/12/2020 18:03

Just realised I need to shop for dd's 21st online 😭 bigger risk of her being home to answer the door 😭. Can't guarantee they'll lift any restrictions on the 18th.

Bikingbear · 27/12/2020 18:25

Groovee I think that's the depressing thing, when is this lockdown going to end?

reprehensibleme · 27/12/2020 18:41

Just been on BBC news that SNP will be voting against the EU trade deal. Unbelievable.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 27/12/2020 18:46

At least they're capable of taking a stand, unlike Starmer who is the biggest disappointment I could have imagined.

Bikingbear · 27/12/2020 18:46

Do you think their game plan is get the best deal for the EU so if they get independence then they are in a better place than England.

Oliv5 · 27/12/2020 18:52

@reprehensibleme

So they'd rather have no deal? Ridiculous.

Saw this quote from Blackford “Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU. The people of Scotland have a right to determine our own future as an independent European country.” completely ignoring the fact we also voted to stay in the UK.

anon444877 · 27/12/2020 18:58

Starmer had to accept it - both because no deal is worse and because he can't win back the north without moving on. Good strategic decision, painful as brexit is.

I can't get point of the SNP's posturing - but their votes won't make any difference so as usual they have the luxury of that choice.

Bytheloch · 27/12/2020 19:04

I just can’t stand Blackford and his ‘I speak for Scotland’ positioning. He does not represent me in any way.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 27/12/2020 19:07

I cannot express my dislike for this man in words that are strong enough.

And this with bloody bells on.

Exactly - their vote makes no difference, so they have the luxury of voting with their principles.

Is anyone honestly trying to say there's something wrong with that?

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 27/12/2020 19:28

I think there is plenty wrong with the principle of no deal.

OP posts:
reprehensibleme · 27/12/2020 19:40

They've been banging on for months about how bad a no deal brexit will be, how disastrous it will be if Scottish fisheries don't have free access to their European markets etc etc. We've had SNP supporters in the family basically saying wtf Hmm. It's posturing.

ikswobel · 27/12/2020 20:20

I wish starmer would abstain, better deal than no deal but he doesn't need to endorse it.

Outsidemum1 · 27/12/2020 20:29

@reprehensibleme

Why unbelievable? It's basically the same deal that Theresa May brokered in 2019 , which caused the PM to resign in disgust. Scotland now has to ensure a hard brexit- out of the single market and customs union with a deal. Of course, as we're always outnumbered in the UK Parliament, the SG voting against the hard Brexit has no impact. Still waiting for Ruth Davidson's promised resignation if NI were awarded single market access and not Scotland... guess the bribe of a seat in the Lords achieved its aim.
reprehensibleme · 27/12/2020 20:29

I wouldn't trust the erg mob to vote for the deal, so TBH I think all MPs who can should support it. We've seen where protest votes can get us. This is no time for posturing/protest votes.

rogueantimatter · 27/12/2020 23:38

Eliza a Glasgow Uni student said that students whose family home is in the greater area were encouraged not to return until the start of February but DS' place has said only that they'll be in touch nearer the time. I suppose a post Christmas spike in cases will start about the beginning of January which doesn't give much time to make a decision based on the numbers.

anon444877 · 28/12/2020 07:37

Well as usual the SNP's principles are that they don't want 'no deal' but no deal is going to be acceptable, just like they want eu membership but not with the euro or the eu fiscal constraints the rest of members face so as usual all these postures are inconsistent and unrealisable.

Dinnafashyersel · 28/12/2020 15:52

Love the crackers.

The UK left the EU at the start of 2020. The EU are content with the Deal. Why would the EU have any interest in allowing Scotland to disrupt it were we to vote for Independence? The SNP position makes absolutely zero sense.

Credit to Sir Keir for a pragmatic response to realpolitik. The Deal is very much a first step with plenty of room for future co-operation or divergence. This is where the debate needs to be going forward.

Would be interested in hearing the SNP view on farming, fishing, financial services, work visas for the Arts industry, high tech collaboration, tax, welfare and workers rights policy within the European environment, Higher Ed etc etc etc. Cannot take them at all seriously until they start to at least consider real policies (all of which they can already affect via Holyrood).

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/12/2020 16:49

The SNP stance is a bit like trying to reason with a stroppy 5 year old. You know, like when they wanted McDonald's for tea but that's not happening because it's closed, and now they won't accept any of the other options they're offered from the available food and just keep shouting for McDonald's.

WouldBeGood · 28/12/2020 17:01

So do we think more tiers tomorrow?

RaraRachael · 28/12/2020 17:11

Can we have stricter rules than tier 4? God knows what that would consist of - filling out a form in triplicate to leave the house Hmm

WouldBeGood · 28/12/2020 17:16

I’m a bit scared so trying to prepare myself

anon444877 · 28/12/2020 17:18

All they can do is stop outdoor meetings, and close playgrounds really that would affect us.
@Dinnafashyersel agree with that 100 percent, and you @StatisticallyChallenged

I was amazed at the criticism of the fishing deal because we've no idea why the SNP thinks it's going to do better on that - complete political opportunism.
