Tier 4 SE England have come to holiday house

Goingdooolally · 21/12/2020 13:52

Near my mum in Edinburgh (who is clinically vulnerable).

I am so upset about this. They have come to their holiday house with their teenage kids from Tier 4 SE.

I don’t know if I’m fixating on this because of my worry for my mum but I am so mad and upset. They are quite selfish people at the best of times.

Help! Tell me I need to get over it.

@MrsRogerLima

If I had a holiday home somewhere remote I would have done the same.
It's not remote, it's the bloody capital of Scotland!
LouScot · 21/12/2020 16:31

@Goingdooolally I can appreciate how worrying it is for you, and I'd be furious too.

Yes, they may well be covid free but if they're ignoring the "don't come to Scotland" rule what else are they ignoring? It's very selfish behaviour if as you say there are no extenuating circumstances like dying grandparents (and even then you'd expect them to be as cautious as possible).
I'd report them to be honest, at least it'll make you feel like you've at least vented some of your frustration and who knows, perhaps they'll have a visit from someone to make them think about their behaviour whilst they're here.

Ohdeariedear · 21/12/2020 16:34

OP I don’t think there’s any point messaging them. You won’t get the response you want, and it could potentially impact your mum, which is the last thing you’d want. It’s very frustrating though.

I’m off to - how was it put? - “get my own head in order” now. Hah. You have no idea. 🤣

Bytheloch · 21/12/2020 16:37

perhaps they'll have a visit from someone to make them think about their behaviour whilst they're here.

Maybe Cameron Miekelson?

LouScot · 21/12/2020 16:44

@Bytheloch well Police Scotland visited Catherine Calderwood when she was visiting a second home so why not??

DecemberDiana · 21/12/2020 16:48

@Ohdeariedear, sorry it was a general you but in response to your interpretation of my " just let it go" meaning let's all have a fre for all!😂

DecemberDiana · 21/12/2020 16:49

"Free for all"

RaspberryCoulis · 21/12/2020 17:05

t staggers me that folk think like this! It's as though the restrictions and travel bans put in place for everyone's safety don't apply if it affects something you personally want to do. So much for the governments touching faith in people taking personal responsibility

But as my teenage DD would say, you do you. You can't influence what other people think, or do. Whether you approve or disapprove of these people's actions, is irrelevant. You don't know their circumstances. If OP's mother is worried about using the local shop then she should be looking at what she personally can do to minimise the risk - shopping when it's quiet, getting someone else to go instead of her, mask wearing, sanitising, in and out quickly, click and collect. There are loads of options and things she can do herself.

It's really unhealthy to sit frothing about what other people are doing when you have zero influence on their behaviour.

Ohdeariedear · 21/12/2020 17:06

Try that again using preview this time.🤦‍♀️

Police will investigate “flagrant” travel breaches

blue25 · 21/12/2020 17:06

I don’t blame them really. The chance of them even having Covid & then giving it your mum in another house is so small it’s ridiculous!

Goingdooolally · 21/12/2020 17:40

@blue25 it’s not necessarily meeting my mum, it’s spreading this potentially new strain around the community. There are 6 of them 😩 Also teenagers can often be asymptomatic I believe.

Report them. FUnny how many of those with holiday homes seem to think they are don't have to abide by the same rules as us poorer individuals.
They sound like selfish twats
I've got friends and family in tier 2 areas and it's amazing how many people seem to have travelled there from London and the SE. Obviously coronavirus knows to behave itself if you have a second home and zero moral compass.

anon444877 · 21/12/2020 17:56

People do love a kicking on the second home thing - I know of folk similarly travelling to the SE this holiday from Scotland and will likely bring it back. This is why we need vaccinations, because all people, second home owners or not, are fallible.

We have a second home so no judgement there. But there’s fallible and there’s downright selfish.

I don't disagree about this pair coming from a high risk city to another city either @Goingdooolally but it's all the second home owners are this...my neighbours have one and they've scrupulously followed the rules.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/12/2020 18:27

Obviously whether something is legal or not doesn't affect the risk, but this family have a legal requirement to maintain their property in Edinburgh. Maintenance of property is one of the exceptions for travel into Scotland from England (or into/ out of level 3/ 4 areas in Scotland). This is in the Scottish guidance now, but it wasn't when the rule was "stay at home" in March when Catherine Calderwood was caught out, so the situation is not the same. I'm not sure what the tier 4 rules are in the SE regarding travel, and it may be that they broke English law by making the journey. But they are allowed to be in Scotland at their property. A house unlived in for a number of months will need maintenance visits.

While here though, they have to abide by level 3 regulations (level 4 from boxing day). If they aren't, you would have reason to complain. I appreciate you have other issues with this family, but you really can't blame them for possibly having a virus that is causing them no illness, which could maybe spread to other people - more likely if they are less careful with "facts". Or for some of them being "teenagers". You may think morally they shouldn't have travelled, and I tend to agree with you. But everyone has to make their own decisions (within what is allowed), to get through this. And I can imagine that if I lived in a small house in a commuter town, it would be much better for my family's mental health to spend Christmas in Edinburgh, even locked down Edinburgh.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/12/2020 18:37

I see Manchester is requiring visitors from tier 4 areas to self isolate for 10 days, even if they have no symptoms. I assume NS will announce similar precautions over the next couple of days, although obviously the only T4 people in Scotland should be those with "reasonable excuse" for their journeys. Which will be harsh if people have travelled for support bubbles/ funeral attendance/ support of vulnerable family members or whatever.

Goingdooolally · 21/12/2020 18:48

@NotAnActualSheep fair points. No small house though in SE, a very nice one!

It's not about owning a second home. Plenty of second home owners will have managed just fine to follow the most basic of rules.

It's about being the sort of dickhead who thinks owning more than one property means the law doesn't apply to you.

Someone who lives in a tier 4 area and decides they're just so super special and want to travel across the country because they couldn't possibly stay put like everyone else is an arse.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/12/2020 19:08

OK, sorry. Let me correct that...
And I can imagine that if I lived in a small house in a commuter town the South east, it would be much better for my family's mental health to spend Christmas in Edinburgh, even locked down Edinburgh.

No, they're only allowed to travel to their second home for an emergency repair such as storm damage or a flood .

You are over reacting. Most people do not have Covid.

Goingdooolally · 21/12/2020 19:19

@NotAnActualSheep well yes Edinburgh is lovely 💗
