Hah - found it :

Level 3, a person who lives next to a local authority boundary can cross that boundary for non-essential shopping if that retail outlet is in the immediate vicinity of where they live

But if that's the case why were people from my street getting fined ? We're 2.1 miles from Straiton and it's literally just over the city boundary. It's a heck of a lot more convenient than going into town or right the way across to Craigleith for the other Nike. I really don't think any fine would stand in court based on that wording. I'm kind of at a loose end now all our plans have been cancelled so maybe I'll risk a trip to the exciting new M&S and see how it goes.

rookiemere · 21/12/2020 20:28

@Shorternights apparently police stopping cars just after the roundabout that marks the boundary.

Shorternights · 21/12/2020 20:31

@rookiemere I might risk a daring trip to M&S as well!

I wonder if a lot of it is hearsay and hyperbole? I’ve heard rumours of fines but not found anyone who has actually been fined. It’s all ‘I know of this person’ stuff.

polarisation · 21/12/2020 20:31

I went over the boundary to the Fort today, got there around 9.30am and when I left at 10.30 it was busier than I've ever seen it at the weekend, but we don't go often. It was essential because I had a click and collect order at Smyths and we don't have one in my grubby council. A away

polarisation · 21/12/2020 20:32

Not sure where the a away came from there... I blame the baby.

littlbrowndog · 21/12/2020 20:33

Why are police fining people to go to stration

It’s bloody nonsense. It’s closer to me than like portobello.

Bloody nonsense

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2020 20:34

Swinney now referring to schools being closed as a “phased reopening”

Offs.

They couldn't run a fecking Bath.

Perihelion · 21/12/2020 20:39

It's still there under the travel guidance

travel for essential shopping, including essential shopping for a vulnerable person. However, you should use online shopping or shops, banks and other services in your local authority area wherever you can. In Level 3, a person who lives next to a local authority boundary can cross that boundary for non-essential shopping if that retail outlet is in the immediate vicinity of where they live.
So still up for interpretation...

NotAnActualSheep · 21/12/2020 21:00

@weebarra

I'm just back from the new M&S at Straiton (I live in Midlothian). Luckily I'd booked a slot but the queue for people who hadn't was huge. I also got to use the new scan as you shop which made it all relatively painless.
Ooooh. Is there a new M and S at Straiton??! Not that I'm planning on going there from plague ridden Edinburgh City of course. Asking for a friend...
mondaywine · 21/12/2020 21:04

I was at Marks at 6. Queue only took 10minutes to get in even though it was almost all the way to Outfit. Pretty fine inside and lots of stock. Then went round to sainsburys which didn’t have a queue.

rookiemere · 21/12/2020 21:07

@NotAnActualSheep it's the biggest M&S food hall in the world, or maybe UK or possibly Edinburgh.

I've not actually been in it yet as we already have a groaning fridge and freezer and have now daringly decided to go out to an Argentinian steak house for our Christmas day meal.

Actually I expect it will still be open post Boxing day as a food shop and if we're all in Tier 4 presumably the boundary restrictions can no longer apply .

Ha! Same. We're 2.4 miles from Straiton, apparently. 3.4 miles from the m and s on Prince's Street.

I complained to my MSP back in July about how the covid restrictions were impacting disabled people like me and finally got a reply today. Granted she passed the query onto Christina McKelvie who is the one who didn't respond until today. So I had 5/6 months of stress before she bothered her arse to tell me what I already knew. "Unprecedented times"...we don't give a shit about disabled people who have barely left the house all year.

rookiemere · 21/12/2020 21:12

@NotAnActualSheep I have a funny feeling that you and I may live fairly close Wink

Ha! Except, quite importantly, it's not in Edinburgh. Maybe the biggest M and S food hall in Midlothian... Xmas Grin

following on from Covid Christmas songs, DH keeps teasing poor DD who won't be able to go to school by singing "Lockdown girl" (uptown girl).

Lyrics still to be decided. So far its "lockdown girl, she's just living in her Covid world, I bet she's never had a national 5, I bet swinney never told her whyyyyy"

(she's not actually in S4 yet though lol)

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 21/12/2020 21:18

You need to think of a witty repost that you can sing to your dh.

That is shit. You'd have hoped if it took them that long you'd get more than just a boilerplate reply. I do wonder why politicians (some, not all, and of all political persuasions) think that kind of reply is helping anyone. What an insulting reply to someone who has gone to the effort of expressing their own personal situation, presumably because they are adversely affected by some policy decision.... Do they actually pay attention to the words and think, just maybe, they may not have made 100% the right decision?
Lidlfix · 21/12/2020 21:26

I was "a whole world of cringe" for belting out my Don't Stop Believing tribute to DD2 as her long term BF was tier 3 when we were moved to tier 4. Clears throat (not a cough ) .. Just a tier 4 girl, living in a tier 4 world, she can't catch a train going anywhere.

rookiemere · 21/12/2020 21:29

@NotAnActualSheep well our decorations are rather more tasteful than normal as sadly our nodding reindeer has stopped lighting or indeed nodding and is now with the dump personnel who have decided to try to revive it for their Christmas display.

Talking about the dump DH was pretty sanguine about Saturdays announcement including the schooling bit, until I upset him by suggesting the dump may close again in Tier 4 Grin.
