I don’t need the contact tracing process made clear thanks. I’ve seen quite enough of it over the last few months. If anyone seriously believes heads will it be called on to help during this process then I’m sorry but they’re extremely naive. There will be many who are doing just that. And then sorting out how we operate after Xmas.
Like many colleagues, I have no idea how I’m supposed to be in school to cover key worker children, teach online and look after my own child all at the same time. No hub place last time and this time, like many many other families, I will not have a partner working from home.

Bikingbear · 20/12/2020 22:10

@Tomorrowisanewday

Lidlfix - how can teachers not be classed as key workers? I have neither the talent nor the patience to be one, but as a profession, you seem to be being thrown under the bus on a regular basis
I'll second that! I am a shite teacher. I'm absolutely gutted that schools are closed again. DS has one of the best teachers he's ever had this year.

My pessimistic side wonders why the furlough scheme was extended till the end of April, 3 days ago

That was something that crossed my mind. I'm thinking we are in this until Easter when the majority of the oldies and vulnerable are vaccinated and the weather turns.

Do you think shielding might be reintroduced? I'm terrified dh is going to catch it at work or I bring it home.

Bikingbear · 20/12/2020 22:40

I think they will.
They are having an emergency meeting at 9pm tonight - seriously who holds meetings at 9pm on a Sunday night?

I'm starting to think this variant, the NHS and its usual winter struggles are really worrying WM. I think England will have a lockdown starting Boxing Day or 27th too. NI lockdown is for 6 weeks, but they haven't mentioned schools yet.

Are they not having a meeting because the ports are closed so no freight will get through? That could be quite the predicament.

ladylunchalot · 20/12/2020 23:01

It's scary stuff..... I can see how quickly it spread through our office in the last 10 days, 5 out of 6 nurses off now for more than 10 days. Trying to find bank staff to cover especially at this time of year is challenging.

That's what I thought. It's making me nervous tbh.
Bikingbear · 20/12/2020 23:06

Sorry I've given duff info it was NI Parliament having the Sunday night meeting.

I wasn't paying attention to which Parliament I was reading about.

Apologies @mondaywine it was me who replied sharply. I genuinely meant it more as I understood the responsibility was being taken off teachers, so they wouldn’t be called.
I personally don’t think it should be up to teachers in term time to manage the tracing process. Very good friends are headteacher in primary, another senior team in very challenging high school, I absolutely understand the pressures.
You don’t need to feel like you’re being trolled on here! I hope you and your colleagues manage to have a stress free holiday.

mondaywine · 21/12/2020 05:50

@Bytheloch thank you and sorry. It has been an incredibly hard few months and this all feels a little like the last straw. I’m more sensitive than I ought to be and am not sure what the next few days in school will bring.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 21/12/2020 07:04

Somebody on here before recommended Francois balloux as a good source. I had a read of his Twitter and it’s reassuring with regards to the “super-spreading” strain not being the apocalypse. It’s how the governments twist it though, and which scientist they listen to that we have no control over.

Can anyone link to the I assume updated documents about what we can/can’t do in level 4? Not the table but the full info.

In particular around socialising. I can’t find it! And keep getting told different things.

Thanks

It might need further updating - it still says schools and childcare will be open in level 4. But this is the current version.

Good morning all, today I shall be delivering a few presents and generally distracting myself from the news.

Hope you're all doing ok.

Mrsjayy · 21/12/2020 08:08

Morning we are off to buy the Christmas booze later. I've been researching Rosê wines to see what I fancy Xmas GrinI think we are also going for Lunch too I'm trying to get the husband away from all the bloody news channels that he flicks through.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/12/2020 08:12

Morning, Well I'm still itchy as feck. Rash everywhere including the soles of my feet. Been prescribed antihistamines but been taking them since yesterday and not much difference other than making me sleepy so I've napped a lot.

Today I will be using work as a distraction from clawing my skin off.

Mrsjayy · 21/12/2020 08:18

Oh no have you finished your antibiotics ? Hopefully the antihistamines work soon. Calomine cream not lotion just slather it on im a "hivey" person I regularly break out !

Cismyfatarse · 21/12/2020 08:21

@WaxOnFeckOff Apologies if this is not helpful. I had terrible chicken pox as an adult and also suffer quite badly from eczema. Both are helped by warm baths with bicarbonate of soda. The difference is remarkable. It cures nothing but helps with the itching. With a book and a cup of tea it became my refuge for a few itch free hours.

anon444877 · 21/12/2020 08:22

I get this itchy thing after a bad virus oddly, it will pass but it's horrible and strange isn't it? Maybe some turmeric tea too @WaxOnFeckOff (you can have it cold) to reduce the inflammation. Sleep is good for you though and will help most.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/12/2020 08:23

Didn't take the last one as by that point I had no sleep due to this. They gave DH a big bottle of zero base but that's really not for the itch, it actually hurts to walk, but I prefer the pain to the itching. So current routine is to scratch whichever bit is most itchy until it hurts, enjoy pain for a few minutes, then start again

I'll stop moaning now, at this this should be temporary, some folk have to put up with worse with no relief.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/12/2020 08:25

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, going to get stuck into some work and hope it distracts, no video conferences today thank goodness!

Rae36 · 21/12/2020 08:39

Morning all. Monday again.
Last night I ate a whole box of Maltesers while watching a terrible romcom called Holidate. Then didn't sleep properly and had weird dreams about giant tortoises and crashing my car.
I'm not listening to any news today, I'm relying on you guys to let me know if anything important happens.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2020 08:47

@WaxOnFeckOff I’d get back to the doc about the rash of Yiu haven’t.

Hope you feel better soon

RJnomore1 · 21/12/2020 08:52

I slept terribly too. Got up and went to morrisons at 7am. Feel under control for the week now which will help.

As much as anyone can be just now at least .
