I'm preparing in my head for this to go on to Easter

I think it'll go on a lot longer. Im not expecting any great changes before Autumn. I read under 50s won't be getting the vaccine til late summer at the earliest

Bytheloch · 20/12/2020 19:48

@mondaywine

Just heard our schools will open for the next two days. LA have just updated. My poor headteacher. On call for track and trace over the start of the holidays and then the rest will be spent organising how we manage to reopen.
Just to be clear, the trace teams are in charge over the school holidays, not school staff.
Lidlfix · 20/12/2020 19:52

Just to be clear school staff can still be contacted and need to keep their phones on and answer unknown numbers.

We're not undertaking the contact tracing process but might need to assist.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 20/12/2020 19:54

As if the teachers don't need a break from this relentless bollocks.

Honestly I am so annoyed for all the teachers dealing with this.

WouldBeGood · 20/12/2020 19:59

I feel really sorry for teachers. Once again this is just landed on them. This time when they should be getting a break and a festive season.

Lidlfix · 20/12/2020 19:59

Thanks Tinsel it is indeed bollocks. When you (masked at 2m) try to comfort a distraught strapping 15 year old whose just been told he's isolating as a close contact then the the utter bollocky bollockness hurts.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 20/12/2020 20:08

Have a big fuck off gin from me Lidl, you can call me tinseltits. Tis the season and all 🎄

OOAOML · 20/12/2020 20:09

My kids have been given booklets to note close contacts. My son is really uncomfortable asking for people's names if he's near anyone he doesn't know the name of (I think his ASD means he copes by rigidly following the rules and he sees this as unnecessary interaction). He's just told us the friend he still has a present for isn't going in next week and can he not - for a day and a half I'm tempted.

Oh God don't say that kids can't afford to have one term in school in 18mths.

I'm a shite teacher. Seriously I can't do it. In theory primary educating should be easy but really.

OOAOML · 20/12/2020 20:12

I totally support teachers not having to contact trace at Christmas- I wish they'd moved high school holidays earlier (realise primary is much more complicated) but I don't know how worth making him go in for this day and a half will be.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 20/12/2020 20:18

If he wants to stay off and you're happy for him to then I'd let him stay off. He won't miss much and it sounds like you'll both be happier.

Lidlfix · 20/12/2020 20:20

What's the lesser evil for your DS OOAML? Would he feel worse at not going in on school days or going in and taking note of people he might've lunch queued next to? I know our Pupil Support and Learning Support teams are going to be keeping tabs on our ASD pupils for exactly the reason you outlined. If DS wants to stay home, won't be distressed by that and you can facilitate his staying home. Do it. No teaching happening he won't miss anything.

OOAOML · 20/12/2020 20:29

Thanks - looks like we'll keep him off. It doesn't seem worth sending him in if they're not really learning and sounds like quite a few at the school will be off. His report flagged some areas for him to work on so he can start on that.

Ewentheawakesheep · 20/12/2020 20:38

@WouldBeGood do you have Amazon Prime. They may still have slots for food delivery.

Lidlfix · 20/12/2020 20:38

I know we're putting all our stuff on Google Classroom as we have lots of pupils isolating and many whose parents have said to protect Xmas their DC won't be in. But we don't expect much uptake, in an ordinary year it would be DVDs chocolate and quizzes. The pupils are shattered. They have coped with all the alterations remarkably well but are exhausted now.

Bikingbear · 20/12/2020 21:12

Lidlfix how long do you think schools will be closed?

OP posts:
Lidlfix · 20/12/2020 21:21

Haven't a clue! I was scheduling an assessment program on Friday. Yesterday was a shock to all the teachers I know. And from our perspective we are still going in. My colleagues with young DC are panicking as previously teachers didn't get key worker places as we were working from home. We are as mystified as anyone.

randomsabreuse · 20/12/2020 21:21

I'm sending my P1 in. She needs a last chance to socialise with other kids her age.

JamesMoriarty · 20/12/2020 21:26

@randomsabreuse I'm doing the same for my P4. He needs it.

Tomorrowisanewday · 20/12/2020 21:48

Lidlfix - how can teachers not be classed as key workers? I have neither the talent nor the patience to be one, but as a profession, you seem to be being thrown under the bus on a regular basis

Perihelion · 20/12/2020 21:51

Wouldbegood Deliveroo delivery of Marks and Spencer food, if your Dad's area has both ( they pick up from garages with m and s good too ) Quickest and no fannying around with delivery slots.

My pessimistic side wonders why the furlough scheme was extended till the end of April, 3 days ago Hmm

WouldBeGood · 20/12/2020 21:54

Ooh. Some new ideas... thanks, I shall try!

WouldBeGood · 20/12/2020 21:55

I really appreciate the help from you guys, you vipers 😊

OOAOML · 20/12/2020 21:55

I'd be more inclined to send him in if his friends were going to be in because socialising will be limited after Christmas. My daughter (S6) is going in but she knows they're covering work tomorrow.

We've been through Teams and talked about what he will work on - suspect it will be more than he'd have done at school.

Jellycatspyjamas · 20/12/2020 21:56

Lidlfix - how can teachers not be classed as key workers?

The criteria for accessing places is quite tight depending on where you are. If one parent isn’t a key worker, or if you are a key worker but working from home you couldn’t get a place in my authority area, teachers fell under the able to work from home bracket.
