I will be so enraged if the schools don’t go back full time. What justification is there for this? English schools are opening and this is where the cases are higher! We are tier 2. So our children won’t get an education because it “might” get out of control. But hospitals are not currently overwhelmed. It’s headline grabbing, attention seeking behaviour. There is no reason to go to online learning where cases are not high. I just don’t believe this new super-transmissible narrative. Is it maybe something to do with making sure everyone is so down-trodden we all get vaccinated? I really hope they open schools up again in January but I feel like once they shut schools they paint themselves into a corner and can’t go back on what they say, so that will be us till Easter. I have a horrible feeling this will result in kids being forced to wear masks. I’m absolutely disgusted at the treatment of kids throughout this pandemic and think the only thing that snp were getting right was the fact schools were open. I’m so worried and sad for my kids. I have also had worried, angry messages from all of my friends and family. People won’t forget this.

JamesMoriarty · 20/12/2020 08:54

Why are they not using the blended learning model they had in place before it was decided they'd be back full-time in August? I know it's far from ideal but better than nothing.

Bikingbear · 20/12/2020 08:54

I really hope people don't forget this. I hope this is SNPs downfall. But I've no doubt the brainwashed will see it as 'its keeping everyone safe'

100% agree

Because the blended learning would have needed huge hubs for keyworker children. And like it or not the economy needs schools open.

What are they expecting working parents to actually DO?

EyelinerRocks · 20/12/2020 08:57

If the DC do not go back on January 18th it will have huge impacts on our family , education , home life , my mental health
School nursery closed too !
If this carries on any later than 18 Jan , I don’t know if we will be able to cope.

Mentions of this dragging out til Easter is utterly shit.

Rae36 · 20/12/2020 08:58

The sight of all those people piling into London train stations last night makes me want to just give up.

Bikingbear · 20/12/2020 09:02

Fuck knows what they are expecting parents to do.

It's SNP communists pull everyone down to the bottom.
Is poverty not calculated as a percentage of average household income?

So you reduce average household income. Therefore in paper less family appear to be living in poverty.
More than one way to skin a cat you know.

I suspect this working parent will have a large stretch of unpaid time and many others will do the same. Welcome to the horror show January 2021.

We can see what the SNP's election strategy is - we keep catching the virus from the useless UK govt. Heap up the hatred.

rookiemere · 20/12/2020 09:03

The online learning "week" worries me terribly.

It makes sense to start a week later - but not so much now nobody is mixing over not Christmas- so why then would you need an online learning week? It makes no sense to get everything online for a week either. She must think we are fools.

Usforthem has moved from its original purpose of keeping schools open to complaining about minor changes, mask moaning and slagging off teachers and teachers union, so I don't want to be associated with them anymore - even though they should be the perfect vehicle for protesting about this.

Still under 16s are still allowed to meet in groups of 6 outside so I will encourage DS 14 to do so, so he gets healthy exercise and social interaction.

anon444877 · 20/12/2020 09:04

I wonder at starry's school too - I imagine the eye rolls of is called up my dc's old school to politely explain we were both working parents who were feeling desperate. Surely most parents are in that category?

dementedma · 20/12/2020 09:04

Thank you for your condolences. The no hugging is hard when that's what I need right now.

Peppafrig · 20/12/2020 09:07

I really don’t know what they expect parents to do. I’m guessing it will be me who will have to go unpaid . I can’t use holidays in January as I won’t have earned any yet .

GoldenOmber · 20/12/2020 09:07

My DC’s school was closed last time anyway. I suppose I could beg for a place in the hub school (my job would get me keyworker childcare in Dngland but didn’t here last time), but the hub school is about an hour’s walk away and we don’t drive, so, oh well.

JamesMoriarty · 20/12/2020 09:08

@Bikingbear but they will be open to keyworker children and that just isn't going to work this time, I know people who got refused a place last time and so many of us need our children in school but aren't classed as keyworkers. They can't prioritise some above others. The extremely vulnerable children category will likely miss children who need it too. I'd have taken 2 days in school over this.

Peppafrig · 20/12/2020 09:11

@GoldenOmber our school was the hub school last time . They only took extremely vulnerable children and those of key workers. I’m not sure the school would class them as vulnerable because they have two working full time parents who rely on wrap around care.

pophop · 20/12/2020 09:12

Im quite lucky as I have week of 11th off work but if they don't go back after then I'm not sure what we will do. I'm a key worker but my Dh work is back online only but he needs to physically be at the office, he was shielding first time around so will just need to see what happens.

I'm at peoples doors all over the area I live in and I've noticed in the last month loads of the support snp or vote yes stickers/posters have been taken off doors and windows.

StarryEyeSurprise · 20/12/2020 09:14

Really? The pp said their child's mental health was affected. That's not the same as having two working parents needing peace to work.
Also you realise this is a four nations approach and the Scottish cabinet's decision- cross party. Just saw on UFFT they're trying to figure out where the FM lives. And no, the English schools are not open as normal. They will also be extended. Same with NI and Wales.

JamesMoriarty · 20/12/2020 09:19

But @StarryEyeSurprise so many children had their mental health affected, we could all go and ask for a place. Mine started wetting the bed for the first time in over 5 years during the last closures. I'm emailing my MSP this morning.

anon444877 · 20/12/2020 09:20

Ah I see and how will people be demonstrating that with no appts available for camhs etc?

I see some secondary schools staggering return in England but nothing re primary...and they go back earlier than Scotland. But yes it's all the same, except it isn't at all.

anon444877 · 20/12/2020 09:21

Yes mine went back into nappies in lockdown after being dry at night for 2.5 years.

Peppafrig · 20/12/2020 09:25

There must be a plan there will be thousands of parents left with no childcare and unable to work. Unless this lockdown will be like the first and she will close construction and everything else again . The advice from last time was if you can’t work from home then you couldn’t work at all. Unless you were a key worker .

RJnomore1 · 20/12/2020 09:29

You know it’s the behavioural science bit that is totally lacking understanding. This has been a long running issue with the SNP - they genuinely think if they tell people they’re bad hard enough it will stop normal human behaviours like the desire for company, for touch and to stick to ritual and tradition.

They don’t realise it just drives it underground.

And then the research on taboo also says if you make something out of bounds it becomes more attractive not less...

This is basic stuff.
