My head is spinning. I already have so much going on following my dad's death. Now I have no idea when I'm supposed to return to work. I was due in on the 5th on teams then off til the 11th. So had planned some me time to just to try and chill etc.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 19/12/2020 19:57

What's happening with schools elsewhere?

Covidnomore · 19/12/2020 20:18

tinsel i'm Englandshire and as far as I am aware primary is opening as normal in Jan. There is some staggering with secondary but not sure as not followed that.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 19/12/2020 20:39

So yet again harsher measures for seemingly lower infection rates here.

fluffyugg · 19/12/2020 20:45

What's the purpose of the schools not opening as normal?

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/12/2020 20:48

Looking at the 7day/100k figures, out of 380 councils across the uk, our highest (East Ayrshire) comes in at 229th. Glasgow is 305th. Stirling currently under level 3 is 365th.

PointyDragonPokingThing · 19/12/2020 20:52

I can't take another home schooling session. I have a lot more work on now, DH is terrible at sticking to his hours (not entitely his fault, he gets given more to do than is reasonable for a 40 hr week but they've laid off a lot of staff so if this is the alternative...), and we have a P1 who is struggling with learning to read and a P4 with ASD who is very hard working at school but doesn't see home as a place to do schoolwork or me as a person who teaches him.

Will it end on the 18th Jan? Will it fuck. We'll be stuck at home til after Easter.

Fuck it all.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 19/12/2020 20:52

DD is upset she can't see her friends at school. DF is upset because he can't get to the pub (and he's also stressed cause he's no well). DM is stressed cause of DF. DH is stressed cause he's a keyworker and will have to still go to work and will have to help his staff who need to home school etc (most of his staff are female) and I'm not working (job searching like mad) so I'm also stressed. Oh and I'm vulnerable which makes job searching even harder. Fuck Covid and NS Sad

PointyDragonPokingThing · 19/12/2020 20:54

And also this. London and Scotland have similar population numbers, plus we're more rural so you'd expect a slower spread.

New infections in Scotland today: 572
New infections in London: 6931

And yet our schools will be closed after xmas whilst theirs aren't. Sake.

anon444877 · 19/12/2020 20:59

I didn't like the unreality of NS's talk about importing the virus from rUK - it doesn't sound as if they're grasping that they will not get to zero covid because of geographical realities that can't be changed.

To all those feeling down, I've said it before, let's remember the vaccine is rolling out, the end of this fiasco has started.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 19/12/2020 21:10

Have some solidarity from me pointy.

I am so fucking cynical now I think they'll keep us locked up until we're all vaccinated.

Bastards

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/12/2020 21:12

Current heat map.

Tiery Weary & Crackers!
RaraRachael · 19/12/2020 21:12

But is the vaccine going to mean the end of the fiasco? Apparently it doesn't stop you catching the virus or passing it on, so what's the point of it Confused

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 19/12/2020 21:16

@WaxOnFeckOff

Current heat map.
That actually made me laugh out loud Xmas Confused I’m losing it!
Skirlie · 19/12/2020 21:16

I've been lurking on these threads for some time but delurking to say I am so upset and angry after tonights announcement. We were planning a small scale Christmas Day anyway but we are lucky that family live locally. Upset for those whose plans have been disrupted. And cannot begin to understand how schools are expected to deliver key worker/vulnerable children in school and other children learning from home?! To top it all our local authority finished for the holidays yesterday so now planning will have to take place over the holidays.

anon444877 · 19/12/2020 21:19

Well that map is making me wonder exactly how good the broadband is in the shetlands!

Covidnomore · 19/12/2020 21:22

I am actually getting annoyed for you guys, especially seeing that map!

My area is relatively low. Not quite as good as Stirling though. But better than my parents council.

We are near a lot of Tier 3 and I guess we could get bad at some point, but its not really happened yet.

We were tier 1 and then English lockdown and now Tier 2.

My parents were Tier 3 for a long time, then tier 4 and now tier 4 again next week.

Yet there cases are higher!

I'm not saying restrictions aren't needed, but I worry that she is driving people into private homes, which is the worst type of mixing.

Bikingbear · 19/12/2020 21:25

Groovee big hugs I'd take whatever time you need. I really feel for you. You seem to be caught in the perfect storm, losing your DDad, Christmas and covid nonsense.
It's only 18mths since my own Dad passed away, I really can't imagine dealing with that and social distancing.
