Thread #3456

Released from our dirty T4, but still bamboozled. Let’s keep each other sane on here...

yes @titsbumfannythelot. Although at this point i'd happily vote Tory if it would get a SNP out.

Bikingbear · 09/12/2020 22:46

I hope the travel bans will be the nail in the SNP coffin. Give them enough rope to hang themselves.

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/12/2020 22:52

There are still a significant amount of people that think the lockdowns are entirely right and if anything they haven't gone far enough. Also folk that would vote for them regardless thinking that if they get independence they'll just vote them out and then vote Labour or whatever.

PapsofJura · 09/12/2020 23:07

I do think the wheels are getting a bit shoogly on the SNP juggernaut with all of this and the Peter Murrell evidence. I am now actually beginning to see press questioning the government rather than just ignoring some of the massive issues.

JamesMoriarty · 09/12/2020 23:32

@titsbumfannythelot

Slight tangent here but it annoys the hell out of me when people assume I vote Tory because I can't stand the SNP.

As if we're so effing pedestrian, those are the only options
.

Oh same! I get it all the time.
titsbumfannythelot · 10/12/2020 06:28

I hope the hospitality and leisure sectors vote with their feet in may. Their treatment has been unforgivable.

Bikingbear · 10/12/2020 06:37

Titsbum I really hope so too. Its unforgivable that soft play centres have never been allowed to open. No financial support has been given either other than furlough which doesn't pay the rent or rates. Watching the video shared on FB that the man from Fife shared was heartbreaking.
Money that should have gone on business appears to have gone on an investment bank. Wtf?

titsbumfannythelot · 10/12/2020 06:43

I know. It is shameful.

anon444877 · 10/12/2020 07:14

I fancy campaigning for Labour - I don't love Leonard but Keir Starmer has done a good job and I agree with most of what Leonard says. Scottish tories are better than UK ones Grin. I like the Lib Dems too, our local LD councillor is great.

anon444877 · 10/12/2020 07:17

How much confidence do they need? well quite - the real metric appears to be the % vaccinated for the strategy to change, so what's that then?

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 10/12/2020 07:34

I consider myself politically homeless at the moment but will vote for whatever party stands the best chance against the SNP. I know of a few people who will never vote SNP again now because of the impact on their businesses. Internally I do feel a bit "told you so". Shame it took a pandemic for them to see what the SNP are like. The Tories may also lose votes.

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2020 07:43

Politically homeless here too.

Labour need to step up properly.

Scottish Greens are even worse than the SNP - see Patrick Harvie on the sex not gender thing.

It’s depressing.

LizzieMacQueen · 10/12/2020 08:00

Did you see the news about Oxford University over turning their policy against free speech?

Made me think about the hate crime bill that the SG are bringing in. Couldn't find a BBC link but it was on R4 just now.

Jodri · 10/12/2020 08:12

I’ve started following Willie Rennie and Stephen Leonard on Facebook and think they are an effective opposition. They just don’t get the coverage. It’s revealing what litters and MSP/MP Facebook post. I also think the main steam media are far too much in bed with the SNP now and are worried about criticising them. They were accused of not giving them enough favourable coverage leading up to the referendum Wonder what opportunities they have been promised if the Utopia that is an independent Scotland is achieved. At least David ‘ I love Nicola’ Taylor retired.

Peter murrell and Nicola sturgeon are an embarrassment with the latest revelations over the Alec salmond inquiry. They need to resign.

was it government business: which would mean NS lied to parliament and didn’t follow ministerial code. Or was it SNP party business which you would fully expect the CEO of the SNP who lived in the house that the meeting was held in to be aware of; so is Peter murrell lying? Or are both lying?

Bikingbear · 10/12/2020 08:15

It was on here I read about the Hate Crime bill. Where is the opposition to that?
Why isn't the news, press, and another parties all over it.

I too am politically homeless. I wouldn't vote SNP, didn't like Jeremy Corbyn, so process of illimation, guess where I ended up.

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2020 08:19

Lib Dems are also misogynistic and refusing to back the Lamont amendment to protect rape victims.

It’s very weird to be in a culture where it’s deemed wrong to question the Government.

anon444877 · 10/12/2020 08:28

all of the parties on the centre or left have awful women's rights policies - Keir S has done an impressive job of sticking up for the Jewish labour members though, so regardless of their stated meaningless sentiments I would feel more comfortable in labour protecting women under his leadership...just my 2p.

I loathed Corbyn, absolutely talentless and intolerant.

Bytheloch · 10/12/2020 08:37

Another politically-homeless person here too. I’m just full of rage, nothing constructive to offer. I despise the fact there’s no real alternative to current party. Like others, I’m assumed to be Tory too, even after 20+ years here, I’m now acutely aware of being an Englander. Never felt that before😒

Would love someone to start a political thread for these times, so it doesn’t always bleed into tier rage threads. Still so many very happy and satisfied with the ruling party and their leader, so perhaps they can enlighten me on a politics thread about the good points of where we’re currently at (are there any?) and where we’re heading? Why would I stay in Scotland to bring my DC up here when I’m just not sure I can handle any more of this divisive shitshow? I’m happy to listen, but just to warn again, I’m full of rageAngry🤷‍♀️ Grin

@WouldBeGood that’s disappointing as I thought Willie Rennie’s posts particularly have been good.

NotAnActualSheep · 10/12/2020 08:47

In the 15 years I've lived in Scotland I have voted for all the "mainstream" parties (and the greens... albeit a long time ago when they were reasonably sensible) apart from the SNP. Not equally... I tend to vacillate between labour and lib dem, but did vote tory once (albeit for a rather niche reasoning, in that they had been the only party that hadn't said untrue things about me in the papers Xmas Blush... so it wasn't a high bar for them to meet). In May I'm really not sure. No party is showering themselves with glory tbh, either re covid or on other matters. It's all quite depressing.

NotAnActualSheep · 10/12/2020 08:52

I do have a soft spot for Willie rennie, but can't get past the pig thing.

titsbumfannythelot · 10/12/2020 09:09

Whilst in some respects it is depressing that we feel like this, I do take heart that I am in the company of many articulate and intelligent people feeling the same way.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/12/2020 09:18

Just thinking last night about the Edinburgh thing and the suggestion of folk pouring in for shopping. The shops are already open in tier 3 right? And the rules about travelling from t3 into other areas will still stand, so those sticking with the rules will likely continue regardless. I guess the only advantage would be that other t2s could officially go there.

I'm not convinced that half of the West Coast would head to Edinburgh, surely they'd be more likely to break the rules and go to Glasgow than break the rules to go to Edinburgh?

I'm an East coaster and central now and I never went shopping in Glasgow when in Edinburgh and still don't go to Glasgow.

I'm sure there is a bit of crossover but I think that's been exaggerated.

Jodri · 10/12/2020 09:37

I agree with you @WaxOnFeckOff
travelling between the two is greatly exaggerated. Yes there are some, but id be surprised if it’s a significant exodus.

Whatever happened to the artist Ellie Harrison’s Glasgow Effect exploratory theme that most folk can’t afford to go out of their local area? Don’t tell me it’s all sorted and under the current watch it’s all better, because I think it’s not.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/12/2020 09:49

The only people who would be allowed and would be likely to go to Edinburgh (but currently aren't) if it went tier 2 would be East Lothian. And frankly I think plenty already are!
