@NotAnActualSheep

Sermon on the mount and the feeding of the 5000 would have been dispersed by the police as an illegal gathering. Even the nativity would have been off... ("you've travelled from the East following a star have you... was that from outside this level 3 council area, sir?")
Grin I nearly spat out my frosties reading that.

England have trained 20,000 hunky firemen to do the jags.
Has Scotland done any thinking outside the box?
Baring in mind millions of amateurs learn to do them for diabetes, cancer treatment, fertility treatments, and the odd junky.

Dinnafashyersel · 12/12/2020 11:59

Just to give a bit of context to what MrsAmeretto is saying. Shetland has 4,000 people aged 65+ so 200 is a drop in the bucket. I assume it is just their first allocation from the 800,000 initial delivery? Curious to understand why they wouldn't transport by air rather than ferry?

Somewhat depressing to see the demographic trends for Shetland. Sharp contrast to the narrative the BBC constantly pushes of resurgence in the Highlands and Islands. (the reality is the reverse with population concentrating more centrally). It's a magic place and I remember when it was booming due to oil.

Dinnafashyersel · 12/12/2020 12:12

Hunky firemen you say? Surely that alone is enough to persuade the average Grannie. I know several who get their fire alarms checked regularly just in case. (We had ours plumbed into the electrics 20 years ago, but the backup batteries needing changed can confuse them. My upstairs neighbour persuaded me to have the fire brigade round for a consult. The fire station is just round the corner so they popped in on their way back from the bacon roll run to Morrisons. They laughed at me as apparently my arrangements are superior to current regs - no idea where that leaves me when they get round to mandating the new regs they paused).

Not sure I've ever met a fireman who wasn't hunky and an all round community hero. They always wave at the school children on the way past (providing they don't have their flashing lights on). The kids are missing out on all the usual visits to school and scouts etc. not to mention doors open days.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 12:21

The entire population of Scotland seems to have been part of a vast gaslighting event where we've all been convinced that we are all to blame for everything that happens.

In the meantime Scotland's reputation is now of a country full of moaning whinging selfish bastards. Whatever happened to the brave Scots willing to stand up for their freedom? Never mind freedom from the union, we have no freedom in our own country. I am ashamed of what we've become.

anon444877 · 12/12/2020 12:27

Just as a public service announcement I wouldn't online shopping now for presents, lots of delays and it'd be a last resort.

I'll be braving shops Christmas week for last minute presents. I hate Christmas shopping as it seems to bring out the grumpy grinch in everyone but has to in person this year due to the prospect of delays!

anon444877 · 12/12/2020 12:27

wax sorry for the segue to shopping and tone lowering. I agree with you

Bikingbear · 12/12/2020 12:37

Dinnafash I think the firemen popping into my mums to do fire alarms has been the highlight of her yearGrin.
I assumed once they'd been contacted it would take a few weeks / months for them to come out. Nope they were round in a matter of days in the fire engine, two battery alarms installed and they'll be back with the new ones when they have them.Smile I've been on at her for years to get smoke detectors for years. Then boof call to the Fire Brigade and job done! Absolutely superb

Bikingbear · 12/12/2020 12:41

Anon I've had that experience to with Royal Mail but Amazon seem to be whirling things round quickly.

I'm pretty much so done with shopping other than couple of extras for DH.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 12:43

@anon444877, nope apologies for the segue into serious stuff. I'm extra grumpy as I seem to have managed to get an infected elbow and now have a mild fever, ended up in bed before 9 last night and still feeling a bit sorry for myself. All i've eaten in the last 24 hours is 2 slices of toast :( Think i'm feeling up to a wee bowl of soup though so I'm sure that'll perk me back up.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 12:47

I've done most of my shopping on-line or in the supermarket (booze). Was astonished the other day when I went to the argos in Sainsburys and only being able to pick up pre orders. So I had to stand in the shop, order from my phone and then go to the counter to collect it. madness. I got a delivery of something yesterday that I'd only ordered on Tuesday night. I think i only have one thing due to arrive but it's for me so no problem if it's late.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 12:48

Oh and a few random books from ebay for DH so no problem there either.

anon444877 · 12/12/2020 13:12

Something rotten about infections, they make you feel so low. I hope you feel better soon wax

My last minute pressies are going to be heavy on the booze side too or cake.

Even the nativity would have been off... ("you've travelled from the East following a star have you... was that from outside this level 3 council area, sir?" Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

wax how the hell have you managed that?! Sounds horrible. Hope you’re well dosed up & get some food down you.

Surely most of the vouchers would just end up spent in Tesco or similar who must be having a bumper year anyway Confused OTOH maybe there will be no bloody food to buy in the new year thus forcing everyone to spend vouchers in other places Xmas Grin a cunning plan to make brexit work for the Scottish economy Wink

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 12/12/2020 14:17

Maybe the vouchers will be stamped with your postcode and if you're more than 5 miles from home they'll be rejected at the till.

Dinnafashyersel · 12/12/2020 14:22

Just back from the local shops. Happy to report very long queue outside the gift shop (they have been doing local delivery and click and collect but obvs not the same). Slightly befuddled by seeing the whole queue out in the cold masked up and socially distanced cos the shop can only have 2 at a time browsing. The coffee shop next door had everyone nice and cosy inside eating cake and sipping coffee so obvs no masks.

Really does bring home how ridiculous the micromanagement is.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 14:23

I bashed it on a door a wee while ago and decided to pick at the scab at the beginning of the week (if only i'd washed my hands...) on thursday I got up and it was swollen and sore and then I had pain extending up my arm and swollen glands in my armpit. I've been smothering it in sudocrem and it's feeling better (apart from when I forget and lean on something) and swollen glands gone down but got a fever on thursday night into Friday and have felt between ok and shite since. I've had some soup and definitely feeling a lot better so hoping I'm cured.

Bikingbear · 12/12/2020 14:23

Waxon hope you get better soon. How is MrWax?

They seem to be finding millions of free money but no real support for the business that need it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 14:28

Mr wax is improving also thanks, swelling definitely gone down a bit and he's started back some light exercise as lack of that was really bothering him. He's had his CT scan and also managed to join a different dentist and has an appointment next week so feeling chuffed with himself. he's registered us all so hopefully better than the last one and that we can all get in for a check up at some point.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 14:30

Our local gastropub has re-opened so I've managed to get a booking for next weekend, no alcohol obviously and they can't open christmas day this year as no point if no alcohol as they don't do meals on Christmas day.

Bytheloch · 12/12/2020 14:36

Hope you’re hanging in there wax, there’s a theme around poorly arms this month in your life.

I’m thinking of a T3 to T3 shopping trip on my day off this week, I’m assuming it won’t be that busy? There’s some specific stores and independent shops I’d like to purchase from, with a swing by to lovely coffee shop, for a takeaway that I’ve missed. I’ve still got DC young enough that I can’t get their present requests locally on my doorstep, so I’ll need to make my not illegal by a sensible person’s standards essential journey🤷‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 12/12/2020 15:12

Been up to Glasgow today to collect a restaurant meal to cook at home.. exciting!

WouldBeGood · 12/12/2020 15:13

And @WaxOnFeckOff ouch, sounds horrible, hope you and Mr Wax are better soon

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 15:19

We'd intended to go to Costco but obvs wasn't feeling well enough but might go tomorrow. DHs pal just been to Dobbies out of his area also. I think that when, as part of their job, they are driving through most of the central belt and into Edinburgh and Glasgow, the thought that you can't pop to the next town for shopping just doesn't really compute.

Once again, obviously on an individual basis then shielding could be a good idea, but on a national level, worldwide, the differing levels of measures taken by each country have had no difference and that they all roughly track the same.

A lot being said about 51 school age children having died with a positive PCR test in the states and obviously that's never good to hear. However, there are about 51 million children in school in the US and around 200 a year die from flu.
