Me too @Rae36 I love things like that.

anon444877 · 01/12/2020 13:13

I can't imagine a lot of private sector people got either a pay rise or a bonus this year. Friends had temporary contract lay offs and then taken back on when the dust settled but no exuberance. And the chat now is the number of people in warehouse groups associated to folding retailers facing lay offs.

I miss going for a relaxed coffee without mask anxiety and having to log in on my phone. In fact you can't get a seat in pret near us these days as the students are on every desk from 10 onwards, desperate for human contact I expect.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/12/2020 13:16

Our bonuses were announced just before covid kicked off properly (based on 2019 performance, paid in March) l don't think anyone is expecting a bonus for 2020

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/12/2020 13:18

Our company is doing pretty well but have used the covid situation to cut the agreed to pay rise in half. However, still got a job etc so they bank on folk being grateful which is also distasteful.

Just popping my head in to say I'm a lurker most of the time, I'm tier 2 so might not even be welcome haha

Och you posh Tier 2s are welcome, but don't know how long you'll be Tier 2 for...

There is also the mythical Tier 0 which isn't even normal life and to which none of us can currently aspire. Tier 1s aren't even on here as they are busy being outside and having shops and cafes and such things that us grotty 4s can't even remember having.

NotAnActualSheep · 01/12/2020 13:28

Of course you're welcome! You can remind us what it's like to sit in a cafe after 6pm, have wine with your pizza, or how adult gym classes work.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 13:35

Welcome lurkers!

You take your lives in your hands tier 2s... but I promise not to share spoons

runningpink · 01/12/2020 14:55

No changes! Aberdeen have escaped three for time being!

Bytheloch · 01/12/2020 15:00

Welcome tier 2s, (could we attract anyone from the lesser spotted tier 1 to join us, do you think?)
You might want to wipe your screen down after reading this as I’m a dirty tier4-er. 🤪

NotAnActualSheep · 01/12/2020 15:25

I think Rara is in level 1? Or 1.5, as she can't meet in houses yet, which is pretty shit. Maybe everyone else is drinking themselves into a stupor in the pub every night, without even a vegan scotch egg to line their stomach?

I feel relieved for Aberdeen though! Have to say, I didn't realise Angus was in level 3...their cases are reeeeeally low... 50 something I think at the moment. So the rest of us level 3s don't stand a chance of getting out..

Presumably next week is when level 4 find out their fate after the 11th?

I'm licking my spoon and passing it around in anticipation.

RaspberryCoulis · 01/12/2020 15:46

Ruth Davidson made very good points today about the rumours of extended school holidays - parents need to know as they need to plan and with three weeks to go that's leaving precious little time.

But they just don't get it. Sturgeon - no kids. Swinney - former teacher whose holidays coincided with the kids and didn't need to worry about who's looking after the P2 and P4 if the government decide to close schools at a minute's notice.

It's just not good enough.

rookiemere · 01/12/2020 15:55

So no changes to Tiers then, quelle surprise. Oh well I'm not bothered now as work project going so badly we've finally been allowed to carry more leave into 2021, so I don't need to pretend that a day trip to South Queensferry is as good as a holiday.

Yes to giving us a decision on the school holidays. As a parent of a secondary school DS, I wouldn't be averse to some sensible compromise, but really people do need to know and in fact most did some time ago.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 15:55

@RaspberryCoulis good point about their lack of childcare worries. Just no idea.

It’s not a problem for me but friends are very anxious

rookiemere · 01/12/2020 15:57

The £500 per person they've just handed out to all NHS would go some way to making up wages for those having to take time off at short notice- if that ultimately is the decision - but wait no it's already been given away.

Bikingbear · 01/12/2020 16:01

I really like Ruth Davidson. But common sense is parents need to know. SG have no common sense.
I'm still half expecting a tweak to the teirs and a teir 5 with shut schools announced on Tuesday taking effect from Friday. Get as many people reliant on state help as possible seems to be the aim.

Bytheloch · 01/12/2020 16:04

Oh BikingBear please don’t mention a Tier 5🤦‍♀️ What more could us dirty T4s do wrong to elevate to that tier. I dread to think.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 16:07

I think they’ll shut schools nationwide not in tiers

anon444877 · 01/12/2020 16:08

Lost earnings you say? Confirmed covid at school, whoop whoop. Will dd be back by the time the schools shut early for Christmas?

Clearly the snp are above playing politics with the pandemic, they've told us so, many times.

They just can't help noticing that wanting to pay untaxed bonuses to one part of the public sector is a power they don't have - it being divisive policy, bad tax policy and them having control of income tax rates notwithstanding.

Tomorrowisanewday · 01/12/2020 16:14

In Angus, we were put into Tier 3 because of our proximity to Dundee..........

haggisaggis · 01/12/2020 16:20

I'm lurking on this thread but had to post @StatisticallyChallenged I love your cats! Our Maine Coon boy had to get pts about 2 months ago. He was only 6 and a giant, cuddly ball of fluff. (unless you were a rabbit or a squirrel!)

Bikingbear · 01/12/2020 16:30

Do you think SG have finally taken enough rope to hang themselves?

Or at what point will that happen?

Matilda2013 · 01/12/2020 16:36

@StatisticallyChallenged it does feel like most of the thread is failing to recognise that private sector care workers etc will also get the £500 not just the NHS. No one has so far suggested they should also donate it!

Bikingbear · 01/12/2020 16:39

Oh someone mentioned vouchers. Its estimated that 6% of vouchers are never spent.

Some of that will be say a £10 voucher and the majority of the money spent leaving 60p on the card unused. Others will be cards that go forgotten about.

The big chains closing just now would definitely make me think twice about vouchers. Because inevitably the vouchers are no longer valid when a chain goes into liquidation you become a creditor at the bottom of the que.

Bytheloch · 01/12/2020 16:41

Sadly it won’t. Next year will be even tougher- tiers until vaccine, rejoice the Scottish Nasty Party has saved us. Triumph in election. Stomp feet and strop for another once in a lifetime referendum, go to Supreme Court if not. -Insert name of party leader by late spring here- onwards to autumn 2021 with division across Scotland. People tearing each other apart based on accents and political leanings to achieve the dream.
Truly, I’m probably going to look back with fondness at the tiers of 2020, the last time we all had something keeping us together (but still at a 2m distance, of course)😒🙁.
