I frequently talk mince wax, it's part of my (incredibly limited) charm.

How is Mr Wax doing?

NotAnActualSheep · 07/12/2020 21:10

No, being serious, I don't doubt that people have caught it in the supermarket, or in school. But I don't think they are worse than other places people spend time. Obviously I don't have any more info than any of the rest of us, but I assume most cases are passed between family members in the same household, and then between people that spend a lot of time in close contact inside, without effective PPE. So the usual family/ friend visits, and possibly public transport or workplaces where social distancing is tricky (warehouses, factories etc). My gut feeling is where there is a rapid "turnaround" of people, like in shops, its less common. Schools are obviously tricky and contentious, but the evidence seems to suggest that the real disruption is coming from self isolating classes rather than massive amounts of spread within the setting, despite the number of people involved. And worse when spread is high in the community.

You can get stand up desks - dh has one. Isn't sitting the silent killer? I've been sat at a table hunched over a computer all day too.

Glad he's well enough to lecture wax

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/12/2020 21:17

Mr Wax doing well, not enjoying the razor compared to wet shave and working light duties, still a bit swollen and bruised, CT on Friday.

I have a proper full size normal desk which we've always had, pre covid. I have a proper seat too, I just need to keep getting up for a stretch and walk about regularly. I've been good today and went for an illicit walk with 2 friends in the dark so nearly 9000 steps today and got the lecture when I got home :o

DH is very active and has a physical job and he's the one with dvt but I'll make the effort to go through to the kitchen for a snack a bit more often to keep the peace and it wont do me any harm.

Hope hes ok was.

I didn't know theres a link to DVT, dh had covid, that's a worry.

feellikeanalien · 07/12/2020 21:17

@Dinnafashyersel

The Scottish Govt have produced a super helpful guide for dealing with awkward huggers such as us. (honestly thought my leg was being pulled till I googled it).

I give you Covid 19 - Dealing with Awkward Social Situations

www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-dealing-with-awkward-social-situations---guidance/

There's a fully illustrated guide and everything. Xmas Grin

(Apparently 80% of people are in the same boat. I am in the other 20% who now have anxiety about why anyone would want to do anything other than socially distance and avoid hugging even within my own household)

I thought Boris was a twat but I really have no words for this. Who actually genuinely thought that this was a good idea and not a load of condescending shite?
NotAnActualSheep · 07/12/2020 21:18

Yes... Glad he's reached the stage of being annoyingly evangelistic waxon. But yes, I try to waggle my wrists and ankles every now and again while working, in a futile attempt to stave it off. Standing desks are supposed to be good too as anon says. But I'm a bit lazy for that.

rookiemere · 07/12/2020 21:20

@feellikeanalien that is hysterical and deeply worrying at the same time.

Good news about mr wax.

Now, far be it from me to critique your life choices......but if you drank tea or coffee you'd be standing and walking a bit more Wink

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/12/2020 21:23

I didn't like to say that work is a bit stressy at the moment so I do get up more often but that's more of a flight response to work. When I look at something and panic and I have to get up and walk away before coming back to deal with it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/12/2020 21:24

Ha ha that made me laugh @titsbumfannythelot. I'm thinking of swapping my pint water glass to something smaller and I'll need more refills.

I might even limit myself to upstairs for the loo and that'll be a set of steps every so often too.

Evening all, just catching up! Isn’t that social situations document a belter! I may have given them very succinct feedback!
I’m afraid I’m a dirty rule breaker, I will not be told by Titler that I can’t have people in my house...I’m not having parties, far from it, but if my dd wants to see her old mum, she’s very welcome!

KatySun · 07/12/2020 21:32

The point about DVT is really helpful and I am sorry your DH has been ill wax. I had ‘long covid’ since March for about six months and got into a bad habit of working all day when DC are at school because it is less painful on my chest than moving a lot. I noticed broken veins had come up in my ankles so now I am getting up and walking around when my FitBit prompts me. Trying to get my steps up generally to improve my fitness and my mood. We did a nice walk at the weekend when it was sunny, but generally I have to say I am finding the darkness and being in Tier 4 depressing. I hope it is not extended tomorrow.

ssd · 07/12/2020 21:38

I try to get a walk in when I'm not working. Instead of doing all my chores then trying for a walk, I try to prioritize a walk first...not early mind, just whenever its dry.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/12/2020 21:44

I've gotten into a bad habit. I get up and log on and then get a shower etc while it's connecting and then I take a short break and by the time I finish up, it's time to get dinner started and after dinner I can't be bothered. Sometimes, apart from bringing in the bins and my click and collect groceries, I don't leave the house. I'm not frightened of covid, just in a funk.

I’m the same. I’ve also slowly stopped messaging and talking to friends. I don’t think I’m ever going to get over all of this if I’m honest.

It's really bad and I agree that it's going to have a long lasting effect on everybody's mental health.

I just can't believe we've got to where we are, who could have imagined that we'd all be worried about driving to the next town or city or having a friend round for a coffee?

OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 07/12/2020 21:49

I haven’t seen that social situations page before.

I’m appalled. I grew up as I’ve often shared in a Jehovah’s Witness family and their literature is written in that style.

RJnomore1 · 07/12/2020 21:51

Sorry cross post.

This sounds awful but I genuinely don’t care. I just don’t want a criminal record it might impact my career, but I couldn’t give a shit about Covid.

I’m finding it harder and harder to maintain a semblance of normality. My nick cave tickets for the secc at the end of APRIL got cancelled completely today. Another almost half a year of this bullshit?

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2020 21:52

@RJnomore1 I am with you. This is all insane

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/12/2020 21:54

I don't care about covid, i don't care about the rules but also don't want a criminal record, it's more that I just can't be bothered anymore, i don't want to be wearing masks and queuing and worrying that i get too close to people etc etc. The things I want to do are shut.

@NotAnActualSheep
Yeah I am still struggling unfortunately, the weekends are especially hard. Iv gotta run out of tears eventually.
I miss spending time with my best friend more than anything else. I could deal with the rest if I could see her more.
She is busy with her family and businesses etc and our usual activities aren’t really available just now.

I am happy to go to a cafe or restaurant with my friends but to sit outside.
I would use my judgement and probably ignore a call from track n trace. (Outside, well away from others etc so would feel minimum risks) but I know that two of my friends wouldn’t be ok with this.
My best friend I’m pretty sure feels the same as me about ignoring but she has to be careful about things for the sake of her businesses.

Maybe if the tiers change then I can see my Edinburgh friends for a walk and takeaway coffee or something and that will help.

Bikingbear · 07/12/2020 21:58

Stats I think you are right, people who are breaking the rules are hardly going to admit "Hamish was at his buddy's for a playdate"

Judge I don't blame you for seeing your DD. Depending on definition of vulnerable and essential I have enough excuses to visit my own DMum. I've only stretched the rules a couple of times as I'm scared incase I take covid to her but...

RJ get a WhatsApp group going it really helps to keep chat going. I've not seen most of my friends since February but the WhatsApp daftness keeps us in touch.

runningpink · 07/12/2020 22:02

I agree @WaxOnFeckOff and @RJnomore1 I don’t care about Covid.
I’m only following the rules because it’s not fair on my work or friends to not follow them. They are stupid and don’t make sense but don’t feel like o have much choice.

hilbil21 · 07/12/2020 22:06

I didn't think you got a criminal record if you receive a fine and pay it? Wink
