They announced today that you can't travel out of your area to go to a drive in Christmas movie so I can't see them lifting the travel ban for anything involving as much as getting out of your car.

MissEliza · 04/12/2020 23:21

@hilbil21

Does anyone think the travel ban between Scotland and England might be lifted on Tuesday to come into effect on Friday?
Sorry to sound stupid - what ban?
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/12/2020 23:27

@titsbumfannythelot

I find it helps to sit down with a coffee and pretend you live alone gibbons!
Grin Thanks, doing that now! Tbf the family I love with are the ones I like Wink

Also desperate for the travel ban to fuck off - I want to go to the lights at the Botanics & our tickets are before the magic days when COVID is due to go off on holiday Hmm

Bytheloch · 04/12/2020 23:32

Ah @RaspberryCoulis 🙁 All the gins to you.

Bikingbear · 04/12/2020 23:34

I'd also like to see the back of the travel bans. I also question the legality of them. But SNP being the sort of people they are will keep them as long as they can possibly get away with.

Bytheloch · 04/12/2020 23:40

I don’t regard the Scotland into England ban as any sort of law, it’s pretendy SNP wet dream law, so it doesn’t count. I would travel there through the boundary not border from my dirtyT4 any day, if I had any reason for exciting travel right now😒 but actually just doing the school run and pick up, work, food shop doesn’t involve a trip south of Berwick

Wbeezer · 04/12/2020 23:45

Got to love PE teachers, theres no escape from social dancing. DS says he's seen them making kids do it on the tennis courts outside!
At DS's school reported case all seem to be in the younger years, those not wearing masks at school, which I thought was interesting but there haven't been many so it could be a coincidence.
I'm planning to break out of The Wee County on the 12th whatever the rules are, going to fetch DS2 from uni in Tier 2 and do some shopping and eating while I'm out and see the sea, I feel marooned inland atm.!

Bikingbear · 04/12/2020 23:48

I'd just love to see a lawyer make a name for themselves by challenging the law.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/12/2020 23:52

Does anyone know if there’s exemptions for visiting the home of a family member diagnosed with terminal cancer? I’m planning to break out of tier 3 this weekend with my children to visit my dad, and my brother and family are also visiting from a tier 4. Surely in compassionate circumstances this is allowed? I’m doing it anyway regardless, but would feel better if I knew we weren’t at risk of any fine or police visit. I’ve barely seen him since March which I resent given he’s probably only got a maximum of 6 months left. Covid has stolen a lot of precious time for us as a family.

Bikingbear · 05/12/2020 01:04

I'm sure they'll be an exception based on support / care for vulnerable person or something. Tbh I'd think it would take a right hard nosed cop to try and issue a fine in those circumstances. Never mind if it ended up in court.
So I'd go and see your DDad. You probably don't need reminding but be super careful with hygiene.
Big hugs,Flowers

Thank you. As you can probably tell, I’m awake worrying about it as I’ve pretty much been following the rules and am really stressed about visiting another house with two households having not socialised in a big group for a long time. We will open windows and I’ll have my mask and sanitiser. Not staying there overnight as have local hotel room booked.
Bikingbear · 05/12/2020 01:11

travel to provide care, assistance, support to or respite for a vulnerable person

Found it for you, in the exceptions on the Scot Gov website. It has to come under that.

I appreciate that. Thanks again.
Bikingbear · 05/12/2020 01:14

It's a hard enough thing to go through without Covid too.
I'll mind your worries while you close your eyes and get some sleep.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 05/12/2020 01:35

LoopyGremlin Flowers
So sorry you have lost such precious family time.
Definitely falls under support for a vulnerable person, I hope it’s a wonderful visit.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 05/12/2020 07:10

I loved social dancing!

Also Hockey. I've taught DD that is a good way to get revenge on someone with an 'accidental' whack to the ankles.

anon444877 · 05/12/2020 07:23

Good luck with the visit @LoopyGremlin I've got a friend in a similar situation in England and it definitely falls under essential care.

anon444877 · 05/12/2020 07:24

@Iwillneverbesatisfied I loved hockey (the only sport I ever enjoyed) exactly because it was so therapeutic!

rookiemere · 05/12/2020 07:47

@LoopyGremlin I traveled from tier 3 to another tier 3 to visit my octogenarian DPs last weekend. We brought some gluten free pies DM likes that she can't get from her online shopping and - if stopped- I was going to say I was delivering essential provisions.

In truth I think DM is getting depressed without company except DF. She had a two year check up for breast cancer and was worried about that-thankfully it was clear. DF is getting a bit forgetful and couldn't work out how to skype so DH was able to help with that.

I've had a sore throat but waited until it had gone for two weeks before visiting, also think we had covid earlier in the year. i would feel wretched if we passed it on to them, but they really needed that visit.

No Police on the surprisingly busy motorway.

Pootle40 · 05/12/2020 08:02

Who is actually following the travel ban? I have to say if I need to go somewhere I just go.

WouldBeGood · 05/12/2020 08:17

Me too @Pootle40

RaspberryCoulis · 05/12/2020 09:06

No we're not following it either. However many of the reasons I would go across the border into Glasgow are on hold at the moment - DD's drama, DS's football.

Last weekend DH and I had a highly-illegal walk around the West End, but we did buy cake so that might make it legal as who can argue that cake's not essential. We've been to Ikea to collect a click and collect order - again not sure if that's illegal and don't really care either.

And I had a friend over for coffee yesterday.

JamesMoriarty · 05/12/2020 09:53

Same here. Went to Ikea.
People definitely aren't staying home as much this time. I passed through a shopping centre yesterday and despite only Home Bargains and Boots being open it was busy.

rookiemere · 05/12/2020 10:17

First time round, people were genuinely frightened that they'd die on the street after coming into contact with someone, now the vast majority of us are not.

Hospitals don't appear to be overwhelmed- would be interested to hear from any Scottish Mners who do work in a hospital to confirm or deny this - and some or many of us are now suspicious of the daily figures being pedalled.

Also the tiers system has become a huge disincentive to compliance. Edinburgh figures have consistently gone down - but we seem to be stuck in Tier 3 forever. That and tier zero which is allegedly normal, not being anything like normal means that there's less incentive to follow the rules.

That being said, apart from my fairly necessary trip to my DPs and a trip over city lines to return something to Nike - which I think is allowed based on my reading of the guidelines - we have been following the rules. Oh and having my friend in for coffee as her teen was having a mental health crisis. I'd do all of those things again, as they were the right thing to do.

Out of my friends and work colleagues, we appear to be amongst the very few who are planning a visit to relatives over the Christmas period. Everyone else seems so resigned now, like there's no point hoping for better times, or I guess just more compliant than we are.
