That’s great news @Alittlewornout

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/12/2020 18:04

There didn't seem to be a good excuse for care homes in general not getting it. More remote ones maybe but central belt? Nah.

Perihelion · 03/12/2020 19:21

Mumps nearly killed me aged 4, in the 1970's. Got encephalitis as a complication. Couldn't walk for weeks and my mum reckoned my personality changedConfused.

JamesMoriarty · 03/12/2020 19:46

I never had the BCG, it stopped the year I was due to have it. Not actually sure what vaccines I've had!

Bikingbear · 03/12/2020 20:08

James do you know which year they stopped it?

Direwolfwrangler · 03/12/2020 20:41

I had my BCG at school in 2000. It was still a mass vaccine at that point. Now I think it’s only offered in high TB risk areas, or to people from certain ethnic backgrounds.

runningpink · 03/12/2020 21:05

Iv got the round scar on my arm. I remember the whole year group getting it and my arm being sore for days afterwards. I couldn’t lift it up properly I’m sure.
Must have been around 2003/4 i think

JamesMoriarty · 03/12/2020 21:08

@Bikingbear

James do you know which year they stopped it?
I think it was about 2007/2008.
Covidnomore · 03/12/2020 21:09

I didn't scar with the BCG. I remember getting the skin test, but I was always going to need it as hadn't had it as a baby.

Most of my classmates had it as a baby but I think they didn't give it every where? I was born in Glasgow but went to school elsewhere.

MaxNormal · 03/12/2020 22:48

I've got two round scars on my upper left arm. One BCG, one smallpox. Done in South Africa mid seventies.
Not sure what else I had, maybe polio and DTP vaccines?

Bikingbear · 03/12/2020 22:53

Back in the day polio was a drop given on a sugar cube. I remember the sugar cube. But didn't know until later why. Got it at a preschool check, where they did eyes and hearing too.

MaxNormal · 03/12/2020 23:19

I was at school with some children who had had polio Sad and the general stores sold the special boots.

Bytheloch · 04/12/2020 09:51

Feeling the Friday T4 grumps today (anyone else feel like these 3 weeks going soooo much slower than the last lot of restrictions, whichever ones I’m thinking of🤪)
Friends elsewhere are having coffee and catch ups. Outside dining catch up for friends down south, having a substantial meal so they can clink a glass of wine together. They sent me a picture to say hello, but I found myself grumpy about it, not their fault. I also don’t need a big boozy, dancing night out, but a nice chat in a coffee shop with a pal would be lovely or a glass of wine in a reasonably buzzy bar. Some festive event for children to enjoy.
Ah, sorry it’s a moan, I’m not immune to awful situations some folk are in- I’ve just got T4 fatigue, as I see so many others having interaction and this is now just feeling (mildly) oppressive in comparison🤷‍♀️

AgentCooper · 04/12/2020 09:54

@Bytheloch yup. I’m scunnered with it all. These weeks are dragging. I’m working from home today but have the next four days coming up to fill. I try to get DS outside every day, partly for my own sanity but God, the park’s getting old! And it’s so cold and damp.

NotAnActualSheep · 04/12/2020 09:55

Oh yes, I had the sugar cube too... and then I had to have a booster and they didn't use the sugar, and I realise why they needed it Xmas Envy

Polio is a weird one. It's asymptomatic in over 70% of cases, really mild in about 25% but serious and potentially life threatening in the rest (remind you of any other disease?!) and largely spread by the people who had it asymptomatically or mildly. And there doesn't seem to have been much rhyme or reason as to who got it seriously and who sailed through. My uncle had it badly in the late 40s and was in an iron lung for months, and has always had a slight limp as a result.

Was woken up at about 4.45 this morning by some ridiculously loud snow Xmas Confused. Thundersnow apparently. Its a Thing. Glad I wasn't on the school drop off this morning I have to say. It's quite icy.

WouldBeGood · 04/12/2020 09:57

Yes, @Bytheloch, I am crabbit today. Lockdown exacerbated by masses of snow

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 04/12/2020 09:58

Also feeling grumpy in Tier 4, not leaving the house except to take the kids to school/nursery. My one respite throughout the day was a long walk to get out the house, but now there's snow and the council haven't gritted anything so that's not safe any more. Feeling very trapped and its making me anxious.

Bytheloch · 04/12/2020 10:06

@WouldBeGood

Yes, *@Bytheloch*, I am crabbit today. Lockdown exacerbated by masses of snow
I’d take snow today! I’ll swap your snow for rain beyond rain adding to the T4 mood here.
WouldBeGood · 04/12/2020 10:13

No no no. The snow is awful. Awful, I tell you. And every fucker is putting “ooh snow 😍” posts on Facebook... I am close to the edge 😂

Bytheloch · 04/12/2020 10:13

I hear you on the walk thing @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us it becomes a focus for the day and critical to maintaining good mental health at the moment. I’m sorry you’re stuck- hope you get some of this rain to wash your pavements if the council aren’t gritting🤦‍♀️

Bikingbear · 04/12/2020 10:14

Teir 4 fatigue here too.

Sheep I've seen & heard, thunder and lightning the last two nights. Weird don't remember seeing it at this time of year before.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 04/12/2020 10:20

It really has become a crutch @Bytheloch! My life feels so much smaller than it used to be, and just getting out the house is vital for my mental health as you say. I'm sitting looking out of the window praying for a bit of rain to wash away the snow, before leaving so that I can go out without getting too wet Smile

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 04/12/2020 12:14

Swinney doing the briefing today. Wonder what he will say other than updating on the vaccine and tiers. Are teachers pissed off that holidays are staying the same? I know my DD is. Grin

WouldBeGood · 04/12/2020 12:15

Oh no!! It’s never good when he’s wheeled out...

WouldBeGood · 04/12/2020 12:15

DS isn’t pleased but he’s only 12 😃
