MShip that graph looks like using the 2 different definitions of deaths from Covid (until recently Scotland were quoting deaths in hospital with a test while England were using death certification). Given up trying to fathom the obfuscation from all quarters. Only noticed because, as quoted by Andrew Marr, for the last Month Scottish excess deaths have been slightly higher than England (ONS vs NRS). The graph you posted infers the opposite, probably because English Covid deaths are higher
than excess deaths but Scottish are almost exactly the same (suspiciously so).

Dinnafashyersel · 01/12/2020 21:41

Sorry, do feel a bit queasy quibbling about this but there has been a lot of deliberate stats manipulation.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/12/2020 21:45

There is a lot of stat manipulation going on. It is certainly a repeat trick of the SNP - when I dug in to their stats in the run up to Indyref they were just butchering numbers all over the place. Given discrepancies between metrics as well it is very hard to draw conclusions.

@Covidnomore

We do take a bit deep breath of that lovely Scottish air as soon as we cross the border.

And everyone must think us weird as we (well D normally) peeps the horn.

DD loves it when we cross the border. We usually have to stop and take a photo which she insists I have to put on the family WhatsApp. They need to have plenty or warning that we're arriving! Did you know that if you take a selfie in front of the Scotland sign at Carter Bar it comes out backwards!!
WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 22:05

It’s sad but I now feel embarrassed returning to Scotland

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 01/12/2020 22:07

Those TV listings are dire.
Good job we're getting fibre next week.

titsbumfannythelot · 01/12/2020 22:10

Remember your protein and carbs too 👍😊

littlbrowndog · 01/12/2020 22:12

Tier 3 over border. Run really fast don’t breathe out or in in case you might breathe out in a tier 2.

Take breathes in a tier 3 and continue in a fast fashion to home in a tier3

If yo get into a tier 4 no hope hope is gone

LoopyGremlin · 01/12/2020 22:12

@RaspberryCoulis

Ruth Davidson made very good points today about the rumours of extended school holidays - parents need to know as they need to plan and with three weeks to go that's leaving precious little time.

But they just don't get it. Sturgeon - no kids. Swinney - former teacher whose holidays coincided with the kids and didn't need to worry about who's looking after the P2 and P4 if the government decide to close schools at a minute's notice.

It's just not good enough.

Swinney was most definitely NOT a teacher. If he had been he might have dealt with the whole secondary school and SQA debacle with a bit more sense.

@NotAnActualSheep

Of course you're welcome! You can remind us what it's like to sit in a cafe after 6pm, have wine with your pizza, or how adult gym classes work.
We actually drove from our tier 2 area to a tier 1 area on Friday. Stayed overnight, and were able to have an alcoholic drink without a substantial meal! Sad sad times when this is exciting Grin
Lidlfix · 01/12/2020 22:26

Loopy I sat through a markers' meeting in the first year of Nat 5 convinced that the PA was that Swinney bloke from SNP. Told DH who laughed at me and a quick Google put me right . They do sound exactly the same though.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 22:27

I want to go for a boozy night away at Christmas

ssd · 01/12/2020 22:59

I want to go for a boozy night out at xmas, preferably with my pals.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 23:00

How good would that be?

Bikingbear · 01/12/2020 23:10

A boozy night out the stuff dreams are made off.

RJnomore1 · 01/12/2020 23:45

Still filthy 4 here

I’m a bit late to the dentist convo but I really seriously need one. I had half a root canal in March; the temp filling came out months ago and if I pack it it lasts hours. Plus a venee has come off and chipped the tooth. I’ve got the veneer on with temp filling too. I’ve not been able to bite into anything since April.

It will take my mouth years to recover I reckon and I’ll end up needing implants

Moan moan moan

Bikingbear · 02/12/2020 00:43

Moan away!
I could understand if it was no dentistry because it's not safe, but it seems to be if your paying it's fine.

Can I be a cynic and say SNP don't seem to think their voters care about their teeth. The other parties really need to get in about them over it.

Jodri · 02/12/2020 07:34

Talking of stats...I noticed on the Scot.gov interactive dashboard on Sunday that many local authority areas had negative number of positive COVID cases (moray -2, highland -10, Angus -11 and Argyll &Bute -14). Was this explained at any time?

AgentCooper · 02/12/2020 09:40

@Jodri what does that even mean? I know zilch about statistics. Two folk in Moray said they had Covid but it turned out they were lying to get out of family obligations?

NotAnActualSheep · 02/12/2020 09:45

That's odd, jodri. Maybe the SNP have been working on a secret cure, that sucks the virus out of people, so is even better than the vaccines. Actually, no, I remember seeing something about some of the lateral flow tests being added to the totals when they shouldn't have been.. So it's probably them being removed from the data. (they have quite high false positives, apparently, which is why you have to do 2 of them).

Agree on the dentists. I understand that a lot of what they do is quite risky, and that they can't fit as many patients in because of extra cleaning between appointments and so on. But that's just a fault of the NHS conveyor belt system, surely, if its fine to get things done privately. It can be done, albeit slower, and so less profitably with the fixed cost per patient, though private patients cover that cost. If the NHS topped up dental prices until the vaccines etc kick in, that would cover the increased cost and let at least some routine/ preventative care be carried out (on children, for example) . OK, there's an enormous backlog, but at the moment it seems like they aren't even trying to clear the backlog until it becomes truly critical, because they are working at a loss to do so, which is shameful and negligent (on behalf of the NHS... you can't blame the dentists for not working at a loss!), frankly. But you're right. Teeth aren't sexy or vote winners. No one needs teeth... Hmm (hope you can get seen soon RJnomore... tooth problems are the pits)

I'm actually feeling quite positive this morning with the vaccine approval and a nice sunny day and whatnot. See how long that lasts.. (When are they thinking of announcing anything about the schools? It would be really nice to know soon. I know the SNP thinks 3 weeks til the end of term is an eternity, but for parents, not so much...)

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/12/2020 09:54

I posted on the other thread about dentistry. As far as SG are concerned there isn't a problem as they allowed the full range of NHS treatments to recommence at beginning of November. If the system doesn't support dentists to do these or they don't want to, then that's not their problem...

There will now be more excess deaths due to lack of cancer detection etc that dentists also check for at routine checkups.

That'll be covid's fault though.

They covered this on Monday - unexplained anomaly with the figures.

Inspires such confidence, doesn't it?

Jodri · 02/12/2020 10:32

Ah thanks @RaspberryCoulis and PP I missed that comprehensive explanation of ‘unexplained anomaly’ (how the get away with that I don’t know? Journalists come on and to your job.)

It’s very concerning about the glacial return of dental care with dentists. Teeth and mouth/dental hygiene are vitally important and greatly affect the whole body; heart disease, gastric ulcers to mention a few. Didn’t the SNP want to reduce biannual visits down to yearly not so long ago? I disagreed with this and I hope they don’t use this as a means to push this agenda again.

Just listened to Matt Chorley (very astute and funny) on times radio and news of the vaccine roll out has cheered me up.

Bikingbear · 02/12/2020 12:30

I know a few years ago there was a big Who-ah over charges for Dental and Eye checks. In Scotland they remained free, or at least I think they did.

What happened in England?
