This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

Even more off topic, but did anyone follow the I'm a Celebrity drama when Beverley Callard, who is allegedly a vegan, allegedly ate a scotch egg?

God I need to get out more. Except I can't. Ffs.

Bikingbear · 30/11/2020 19:42

The whole joke about Scotch Egg being a substantial meal. WTF does Substantial meal actually mean?? Lots of folk would class a slice of toast as breakfast
All these laws they are trying to put through are totally immeasurable.

Up there with my DSs t-shirt, "Santa define good..'

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2020 19:47

@Rae36 - apparently it was a veggie scotch egg!

Rae36 · 30/11/2020 19:49

WTF is a vegan scotch egg? Nae meat and nae egg? Would a vegan scotch egg qualify you for a beer do you think?

OMG spit out my wine !

I've had a vegan frittata - mostly chickpeas. Vegan scotch egg probably made from mashed chickpeas and quorn?

As for the snp diet of free breakfasts, and cash bribes, are these the best ideas they've got other than their magic panacea?

We need some new political ideas.

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2020 19:56

@anon444877 we sure do!

titsbumfannythelot · 30/11/2020 19:59

We need some new politicians anon!

I'll go and check to see if there are any behind the sofa!

anon444877 · 30/11/2020 20:02

Yeah I'd settle for new politicians too!

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/11/2020 20:06

To be fair (and I know it's not like me!) don't most parties in power do a wee give away prior to an election?

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2020 20:12

It’s in poor taste when other people have lost their livelihoods and have no income though.

To give it to people in secure, relatively well paid jobs (including doctors?? Who are extremely well paid) totally sticks in my craw. Imagine how the soft play man is feeling.

All I know about vegan and chickpeas is that you can use the chickpea tin liquid as an egg substitute. So naturally this has made me think that a vegan Scotch egg would be like a falafel full of chickpea tin water Envy

Obviously not firing on all cylinders over here 😂

anon444877 · 30/11/2020 20:22

Mmm tasty - chickpea tin water! I eat some vegan food but it's better if it's not substitutes.

It's true, politicians on the hunt for electoral success do like to give things away.

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2020 20:23

I’m not sure everyone is going to be impressed with this particular giveaway

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/11/2020 20:25

I agree @WouldBeGood but they must see it as a vote winner both from the recipients side and all the folk who were out clapping.

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2020 20:26

Mm.. but the clapping is seen as a bad thing now

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2020 20:26

We shall see!

BBCONEANDTWO · 30/11/2020 20:28

I don't think this is a good idea £500 for NHS workers? Most NHS workers are on fairly good money and have not been furloughed. I could see it helping out for staff in care homes who work bloody hard on the minimum wage. I just don't think they should have offered this I think it might cause resentment.

Christmasbiscuit · 30/11/2020 20:30

@BBCONEANDTWO totally agree.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/11/2020 20:31

Yep and NHS worker DH agrees. He argues this point all the time.

Thistlegirl4 · 30/11/2020 20:40

Totally agree with you both. Could there be an election coming up by any chance 🤔 I'm sure all these people who have lost/or losing their jobs or had hours cut in poorer paid jobs, I'm sure £500 would have been more useful for them.
Iwillneverbesatisfied · 30/11/2020 20:51

going to need another thread soon

are tiers reviewed again tomorrow?

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/11/2020 20:58

Just looking at the comments under the story in the BBC. First couple of pages are all talking about vote buying, didn't read on any further.

and yes, Tier review for everyone except us manky T4s..

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2020 21:00

No tier 4 review?

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/11/2020 21:04

@WouldBeGood

No tier 4 review?
Nope T4 is T4 until the 11th and wont be changed before then. presumably it will be announced in the review on the 8th what is happening to T4 from 6pm on the 11th.
