This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

They are bonkers on that page. They don't want schools to close 4 days early and they also want to take their children out of school because they hate the Christmas plans and are unhappy about wrapped biscuits at class parties.

Dinnafashyersel · 29/11/2020 17:25

Re cases dropping fast enough. According to the stats, such as they are, English cases are falling fast towards the Scottish rate, but Scottish cases are more or less plateaued. Does give pause for thought re all the social engineering and Covid secure theatre.

I agree about restaurants and ventilation. I do wonder if it doesn't actually just make more economic sense to mothball the sector and furlough everyone till they can open normally or at least in the better weather. Not great for anyone desperate for a meal out but better for business and especially if they can adapt to takeaway.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 17:36

I saw a graph today such seemed to suggest that cases very much ran the same path no many hue measures were put in place.

titsbumfannythelot · 29/11/2020 18:19

That's depressing Would. I'm trying not to speculate too much on anything after the 11th of December, it's not doing my mental health any favours.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/11/2020 18:25

Yes @WouldBeGood that's what I've been following for months and why I'm so frustrated. Once it has this level of prevalence in the society it's really not making any difference. On an individual basis it can obviously be of use for people to shield but overall, it makes no difference.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 19:04

Yes @WaxOnFeckOff I agree. It looks to me as though we should now stop these measures, keep good hygiene and support vulnerable people to shield if they wish until the vaccines get going.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 19:08

@titsbumfannythelot I know. I try hard not to dwell on it but I’m so desperate to get to my gym and stuff and just out.

goodname · 29/11/2020 19:11

Hi yet another lurker who reads everything but never posts 😊. Just wanted to say I feel the same sense of despair at all the ridiculous rules, especially the Christmas ones. The thought of school being shut for over three weeks fills me with dread as it is all that is keep me and my kids sane.
Seriously annoyed that we are not allowed, in tier 3, to book a holiday house over the Christmas period. My family is so big that I would really like to go away so I don’t have to work out who I would be in a bubble with!

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/11/2020 19:20

Glad we are flushing all the lurkers out of the woodwork :)

Nice to see some new folk posting.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 19:20

@goodname hello!
I hadn’t realised the rental house thing - another thing that makes zero sense as a bigger property is presumably safer 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m filthy tier 4 so everything I touch at Christmas must be burned

Bikingbear · 29/11/2020 19:25

Christmas is doing my head in. I feel like I'm stuck in a scenario of a guy, a boat that carries 2 at all times and 3 animals to get across the river.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 29/11/2020 19:25

I'd love a nice spa weekend as an xmas present but the question is: where is open? Where can I go? Can I even travel? Will tiers be dropped? Any suggestions?

runningpink · 29/11/2020 19:38

Thanks everyone for your kind words last night. I feel a bit better today so thank you.

@Iwillneverbesatisfied depending on where you are then Stobo Castle is amazing for a proper spa day. I wouldn’t bother with treatments as plenty to do around the place
Only thing is they have closed until March now because of everything. If you were happy to wait then that’s where I would go

Bikingbear · 29/11/2020 19:39

Glad you are feeling better Running. I'll keep sending hugs xx

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/11/2020 19:44

Glad that you are feeling better 😊

I'm supposed to be coming up with a list of things that I would like for Christmas but there is nothing I want or need. 🤷‍♀️

anon444877 · 29/11/2020 19:44

@goodname the rental thing is so silly - not to mention professionally cleaned!

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 29/11/2020 20:00

I'm in a tier 4.

Its so hard to know what I want for xmas as we can't even DO anything.

Plus I'm about to leave my job (exit package) so I deserve a fucking good xmas.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/11/2020 20:19

Yep, don't need stuff for going out, don't need stuff for staying in. No idea if or when we might be able to have a holiday. I'm hard to buy for at the best of times and now it's even worse.

Alittlewornout · 29/11/2020 20:24

@WaxOnFeckOff I am asking Santa for a vaccine. As an NHS worker I am fed up now, it's ok for me to visit 15 to 20 different homes per week wearing a mask an apron and gloves. All of which we are meant to put on literally on the doorstep, on a Scottish winters day!!😂. Got guidance out last week saying it is now fine for us to have student nurses in our (own) cars but we have to deep clean them afterwards, but I can't technically have my own kids who are students in the car!! No disrespect to student nurses, I really like being a mentor but management are having a laugh which we told them, think this is being fed up the food chain.
Anyway I digress, I am thoroughly enjoying this thread so keep up the good work ladies.😀

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 20:25

I’m lucky as Christmas is just me and the DCs anyway.

But I want out for some festive shopping/coffees/meals/gym

And would like a night instead hotel or something with DP over the holidays for a change of scene.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/11/2020 20:31

DH is NHS too. He doesn't want the vaccine and I'm not fussed either.

Hope they do get one and folks who want it get it and then hopefully we can do away with the tiers and all the rest of it. I am not doing this again.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 20:39

I’ll take any old shit of they let me out. 😂

Me too. Anything to go on holiday and get pissed with my pals. It's not that much to ask really, is it?
Bikingbear · 29/11/2020 20:52

Alittle that's nuts and exactly the sort of thing that makes people push the boundaries "if it's ok to have a student it's ok to have my kids etc"

10 years ago I was in SGH for a week with swine flu. Every day it was in the papers that young people were seriously I'll or dying from it. All the staff and visitors had was those stupid aprons and masks. I cannot believe that's classed as adequate for barrier nursing in these times.

I take my hat off to every nurse, doctor, cleaner, midwife, who's working through this. I doubt I'd be here without you.
