This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

When do you think Queen Nic last cleaned her own bogGrin

Callisto1 · 27/11/2020 13:14

Yup, tea with rum! It's a herbal tea with lots of sugar. Done right it tastes really nice. Never seen it here though so I guess might sound a bit strange.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 13:18

I don't drink anything hot so I'll have to make do with chilled drinks or stay indoors.

Bytheloch · 27/11/2020 13:22

wax yes, I remember you declared this previously, does it include mulled wine/cider/festive drinks?

40weekswithno2 · 27/11/2020 13:25

@Callisto1 I usually find the more alcohol I drink, the warmer I feel Grin alcohol kills corona virus .... right?

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/11/2020 13:27

I don't drink hot stuff either. The very very occasional hot chocolate but otherwise...I'm normally found with irn bru

Yes also includes any form of warm alcohol. I do have soup but eaten with a spoon, I suppose I could sup warm alcohol with a spoon (as long as I disinfect the spoon). I can't say it's appealing though. I can drink room temperature baileys?

We held a party once (between Christmas and New Year) when we'd recently moved into a new build estate and only about a dozen houses were occupied. Next door brought a huge pot of mulled wine - they definitely didn't know their audience - but fair play to them that they nearly managed to finish the whole pot themselves... :o

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 13:32

I can have the occasional hot chocolate too - maybe that's because it's well, chocolate... :o

AgentCooper · 27/11/2020 13:33

Do you reckon Jason means we’ll be allowed to drink in the street and park in Glasgow now? Finally! Bring on the entire street boozy brawl!

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/11/2020 13:33

Well exactly. I'll take chocolate any way I can get it...

Bikingbear · 27/11/2020 13:44

Agent Cooper to use an expression I think Jason "opened his mouth and let his belly rumble"

No thought actually entered his brain.

rookiemere · 27/11/2020 13:50

I ended up having a long online conversation about buckfast with a colleague yesterday- our project has gone a bit awry so we're taking our kicks where we can find them.

I've never tried it but I'm thinking it sounds like it would be rather suitable for heating and serving as a mulled drink, although I've rather gone off the idea of shivering beside the chiminea in the garden with visitors since it poured down last Saturday.

I made a - think it's allowed now - trip to Midlothian i.e. Straiton which is a daring couple of hundred metres over the Edinburgh city boundary. Place was mobbed. Sadly Nike only seemed to have brightly coloured garb that reminded me of MC Hammer from my 80s youth, and no black tracksuit bottoms that DS will actually wear.

Buckfast,I may have tasted in my youth Blush tastes a bit like benilyn cough mixture. At the risk of TMI It also has a weird taste if you snog someone who's been drinking it. I do think it could be heated too, and might thin it down a bit.

Dinnafashyersel · 27/11/2020 14:02

Agentcooper don't tempt us. Met half the playground Mums out on our mandated meander round the park this morning - this was without any pre-arranging.

Champagne with a nip of brandy is my favourite cocktail. Pretty lethal stuff mind - wonder if it works with whisky.

Dinnafashyersel · 27/11/2020 14:03

Your really not selling it to me Biking. Grin

BusyDreaming · 27/11/2020 14:04

Well, we were positively euphoric yesterday when we discovered we will be in Tier 2 in our corner of England.
( there was quite the party atmosphere while queuing to get in to the Post Office when the Tiers were announced)
This is what it’s come to.

I’ve been just about demented trying to figure out all the different permutations so we could possibly get up to Scotland pre Christmas.

I gather that this will Not be Allowed.
Does anyone know if any hotels will be allowed to open over Christmas in Scotland ?

Have given up trying to get elderly relatives down to us ( unless someone wants to camp in the garden with a chamber pot)

So, I’m now contemplating a kind of drive through Christmas where we can wave to family around Scotland on our way past.
Or maybe even enjoy a turkey and cranberry sandwich with the relatives on a park bench somewhere. ( the 2m cracker would make it truly celebratory)

Any up to date information, greatly appreciated.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 14:08

@Dinnafashyersel, standard start to a decent party. Sugar cube, measure of brandy and topped with sparkly stuff. get's the party mood going from the start - a very happy drink.

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2020 14:09

@AgentCooper 😂 I’m in

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2020 14:10

@Callisto1 yes, please just tell us so we can plan for the weans off.

And I like the sound of tea with rum.. dark rum? Or sliced rum?

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 14:12

I think it's hard to say @BusyDreaming as we have no idea where our tiers/levels will be going and besides all that the message is "don't do it!" so i think it will be made as difficult as it can be. Where are you hoping to get to?

I'm now imagining something like a safari park for elderly relatives where we drive round the compound waving and throwing mince pies at them as we pass by.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 14:19

Right, as no one else was, I started the advent calendar thread -

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2020 14:21

@WaxOnFeckOff like the island at Blair Drummond?
@WaxOnFeckOff like the island at Blair Drummond?
yes exactly or like the bit the lions and the deer are in - obviously separate bits to each other.

We could have the sea lion show but substituted with a dance along (no singing) to the good old war time hits...

This is not meant to be disrespectful to our older citizens by the way, I could weep with the restrictions they are under with no choice in the matter.

OMG I think I'd be pissed before I made it to the second round 🤣😂🤣
