This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

wax you’ve caused a T4 anomaly with your cleansing routine and cheery annual leave day. Try to ‘Be more T4’ and less Orkney. 😉

(Somebody please start an advent calendar thread, it’s a genius idea🤣)

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 27/11/2020 12:24

We're on day 2 of ds's self isolation and to say I'm pissed off is an understatement. The woman from track and trace or whatever it's called essentially said the rest of us could carry on as normal as long as we treated ds as a pariah...he's a sensitive emotional 5 year old who thanks to school is already terrified of the virus.

anon444877 · 27/11/2020 12:26

That advice for just the child to self isolate at home is utterly ridiculous. How is that supposed to work? My daughter won't go to sleep unless I'm in the room and sat in her bed for stretches.

I've got earrings I sleep in, I've fallen foul of not remembering to put them in. In my head I love make up but there's never enough time in the morning!

littlbrowndog · 27/11/2020 12:31

He’s 5. Omg imagine telling a wee boy to isolate.

That’s cruel

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 12:32

No chance on the cleaning but windows are always on the latch.

Loving being more t4 and less Orkney, the thread that keeps on giving. It's no understatement to say I love all you ladies, or whatever you identify as...

I only do make up for video calls nowadays as apparently my laptop has a really good camera... I'm already propping it on stuff to get a flattering angle.

anon444877 · 27/11/2020 12:34

Ha I've sat myself in front of bright kitchen window so you can't really see me very well on the myriad daily teams calls. I recommend it.

Same here 😂
Bikingbear · 27/11/2020 12:43

With a 3yo they said one parent could SI with them.
Aye right, how is DH meant to work and run the house while I hide in a room with DS2?Not to mention DS2 happens to love Daddy more than he loves me. Ok some MNers might say DH should have SI with DS but actually DH earns 3x what I do so financially that makes no sense.

We went down the route of doing what we could but not much more than keeping DS2 in.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 12:43

I have a study so I'm very lucky, however people can read the titles on the books on the shelf behind me so I'm reluctant for them to see whether there are fingerprints on the fridge door Grin

Also they are inevitably at lunch time when Adult DS wanders down for food.

I'd need more boxes to get the right angle in the living room. The struggle is real folks...

RaspberryCoulis · 27/11/2020 12:43

Apparently Jason's latest gem is that we should all sit outside with our champagne on Christmas Day.

What planet is that man on?

Catch hypothermia! At least it's not Covid! Hmm

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2020 12:46

Thanks for the window tip.. I gave my first ever videoconferencing next week for work trying 😱

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2020 12:47

Training!

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2020 12:47

And being less Orkney is a great mantra for life in my opinion

Bikingbear · 27/11/2020 12:48

What planet are any of them on?Hmm

KatySun · 27/11/2020 12:50

I can vouch for the fact that sitting in the light from a window for video-conferencing removes all lines and blemishes 👍. I look about ten years younger. My colleagues will get a shock when they see me in person again.

anon444877 · 27/11/2020 12:53

I imagine Jason has been asked to be more festive, and he's done all sorts of hand wringing over the idea of suggesting that one glass of champagne!

The idea of drinking champagne in the cold whilst freezing, whisky would've been a better option.

Bytheloch · 27/11/2020 12:56

@Dinosauratemydaffodils 💐 that sucks, hope you’re ok and wee 5yo can be easily distracted from the reason he’s not at school😞

Bikingbear · 27/11/2020 12:56

Ah but what a dilemma for the anti drink SNP, Champagne has less alcohol, but whisky is Scottish and supports Scottish business....

anon444877 · 27/11/2020 12:57

I'd prefer never to leave home for work again - I've wfh for years and it's so much nicer, teams angles problems notwithstanding!

Callisto1 · 27/11/2020 12:58

Having read a couple of the articles about early school closures they don't sound very definitive. They don't really have much time if they want to shut shop on 11th Dec. Is it going to be one of those instances where we find out the night before? I don't really mind the early shutting, 18th Dec sound reasonable, but why not just announce it now? So people can plan!!

anon444877 · 27/11/2020 12:58

Yes I'd love to imagine they'd agonised over these nonsense suggestions. Similar thought going into the cleaning recs I expect!

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/11/2020 13:01

Champagne is European init?

Whisky might mean that some people imbibe the closely named Whiskey or drink stuff from Wales or Japan or......Stuff that might have been within 500 miles of Donald Trump.

Callisto1 · 27/11/2020 13:03

Surely if you're drinking alcohol outdoors on December it has to be hot! We always had mulled wine or tea with rum, but maybe that's too European.

Bikingbear · 27/11/2020 13:08

Tea with rum really???

Hot Choc with Rum and Cream, now your talking.

Dinnafashyersel · 27/11/2020 13:08

If Covid doesn't get me I may kill myself laughing. So behind with you all and completely conflicted. Grin I was born in Orkney but am otherwise West Coast Central belt through and through.

Can confirm that at 4 per 100k Orkney does indeed have less than 1 person with the Rona (their population is 23k so quoting their infection rate per 100k had me snorting at the get go). Their current NHS head commuted weekly from his home on the East Coast all throughout April/May. They were a Covid hotspot in the early days so they are likely all immune already. They don't have mains gas and it's usually blowing a hoolie from September to at least May so I doubt they fire up the boiler more often than us minging tier 4ers. If you turn up to do a dutiful visit to the rellies they usually greet you with "you'll have had yer tea" - nearly added a question mark but it's actually said as a statement of fact.

That said, according to my children, everyone they met in Orkney on holiday is exactly like me.

Off to make the home worker his lunch so will likely be even further behind.
