This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

I have plenty Prosecco but no wine left. I’m going to have to sort that out just in case

LizzieMacQueen · 25/11/2020 21:32

Hmm. If things are to remain tight right up to the 23rd, how are we meant to do our Xmas shopping?

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 21:32

My car boot is full of cider (in bottles and cans, not just swilling aboot)

I'm waiting for an opportunity to bring it in and hide it but the house is never fecking empty!

And how are shops going to shift their Christmas stock?

Gifts? Gifts is it now? I'll give you bloody gifts!!

There will be NO exchanging of gifts, don't you know we are in the middle of a pandemic?

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 21:35

Bottle of hand sanitiser and a duster for everyone - job done.

LizzieMacQueen · 25/11/2020 21:39

😄

See the thing is I've been pretty diligent in stocking up gifts for myself but it would be a bit unfair not to buy for the other family members.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 21:39

This has been making me laugh tonight:

Is it not just tighter regs round the actual festivities rather than before..? Clutching at straws

Bytheloch · 25/11/2020 21:51

Possibly, who knows, supposed to be announced tomorrow. It’s being reported as tighter regulations around mixing. So maybe it’s just to cover that period🤷‍♀️

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 21:54

Well, we were told today we should get gift vouchers for each other. Because that's a good idea when we don't know if businesses will survive til the new year... I reckon the "tightening around the edges" coming in the guidance tomorrow is going to be fun. "you can meet others, but under no circumstances must different households be in the same room as each other at any point". (hence gift vouchers, as you can post them under doors).

RaraRachael · 25/11/2020 21:55

This thread has really cheered me up tonight - I actually laughed out loud at the thought of the 2m long crackers.

I wonder what NS has up her sleeve in the Covid misery-a-thon competition. Let's lock them down, set them free for a few days over Christmas and then incarcerate them for the whole of January because they've been SO naughty and disobeyed my orders over Christmas Shock

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 21:56

@Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons

Tighter really ?!? FFS January will be a bloody ball - imagine the telling off Hmm

However the nearest hobbycraft is over the (council) border in tier 3, and you can be sure I class that as essential shopping YES I can confirm that all sewing related shopping is absolutely ESSENTIAL, you don’t even need to actually shop but being able to stroke fabric is a human right Grin —but I don’t like hobby craft—

There's just nowhere good to stroke fabric since the cloth shop closed (sob). But when you want to buy a ridiculous toy Cricut Maker and the various bits to go with it, then to Hobbycraft one must go! Nae gid for fabric though, I don't want cotton fat quarters I want lush wools, nice plaids, soft french terry, alpine fleeces...(looks at groaning shelves...my stash does not need to grow)
WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 21:57

@RaraRachael bet you’re right!

And @NotAnActualSheep yes, I’m wary of vouchers too because if the likelihood of business failing. I am, however, supporting restaurants manfully, now by the home options. 😃

BBCONEANDTWO · 25/11/2020 21:58

@Perihelion

Non Glasgow areas, no household visits announced on the 23rd? September. For flying to other countries which require it, I believe a private test is necessary, as they don't accept results from NHS testing service.
But you can't travel to Glasgow as it's a Tier 4 area - so don't know how you could fly from Glasgow airport.
WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 21:58

Maybe we should set up a party to run for government? Unfortunately my youth was far too misspent for me to throw my hat in

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 21:59

@BBCONEANDTWO I think I saw you can drive to get somewhere else

titsbumfannythelot · 25/11/2020 22:00

Christ on a bike, next Jason Leitch will be deputising for Santa because it's just too much of a risk.

In the words of someone in four weddings and a funeral, fuckadoodledo

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 22:01

@NotAnActualSheep

surely every road & public transport is going to be rammed?

Yup, this. Its going to be even worse than usual on Christmas Eve. I'm really not sure forcing everyone who needs to get the train into travelling on one or two days is a fantastic idea...

Also, surely if we're not allowed to do anything up til Christmas, people will think they've done their isolation, so will be more likely, rather than less to take up the bubbles, and visit granny. Is that what they are intending? I'm so confused with the psychology of it all.

TBH the 5 day limit makes not a lot of sense anyway. If you are forming an extended bubble then actually surely the limitation should be in what else you do over that period - so really your bubble should only stay intact as long as you aren't doing activities which involve much interaction with other people. If you travel to stay with family and then when you are with them you only maybe go out for a meal together and otherwise are at home then it makes not a jot of difference if you stay for 1 day or 10. The biggest risk is you travelling in with covid which would almost certainly spread in 5 days

On the other hand if you don't live together and are all still going to various workplaces over the magic 5 days then the risk is significantly higher, surely? You could easily have a bubble containing 6 adults who are all going to different workplaces on public transport which is a hugely different level of risk

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 22:02

I’m just telling children that Nicola has banned Santa 🤷🏻‍♀️

BBCONEANDTWO · 25/11/2020 22:02

I will cry if they don't lift the Tier 4 restrictions on the 11th December like NS said - surely she can't change it if the figures are going down. So pissed off with this government.

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 22:03

@BBCONEANDTWO me too

Cismyfatarse · 25/11/2020 22:06

I am so fed up. And Jason Leitch is a Dentist which has made me angry.

Close friends have just lost their dream house because of a collapsed chain due to all the on / off / yes / no mess.

And kids in school are fed up too. Teaching in a mask makes it very hard to be energetic or connect with them. Plus I often don't hear them properly. How do you help a very distressed teenager from 2m away while you are both masked?

School have done everything they can but NS and the SQA and the Grinchy Leitch have made me very cross.

Me too. Surely it won't come to that 😭
littlbrowndog · 25/11/2020 22:08

No you tier 4 people. You have been bad and very very bad.

Your Xmas dinners will be slid under your doors. By Jason

And your houses are so minging that our queen has actually had to mention it on one of her infrequent broadcasts

So cmon

Stop being so whiny
