This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

not more than 2 friends at once for a walk

Hmm at the risk of "putting my own spin on it"
You are allowed larger groups outside for organised non contact exercise so myself and 2 friends now have a walking club. It's a shame that we only have 3 members but we are coping...maybe membership would pick up if we advertised?

We have a "X ladies walking group WhatsApp group and we are now putting a pound in a kitty every walk and we can use that as our social fund once we allowed to go out...

No fire at Hogmanay this year

I'm totally going to make a stunt 2m long cracker. It'll be like a Christmas piñata

runningpink · 25/11/2020 20:11

Just got off the phone from my parents and I was expecting pressure to go for Christmas Day.
But they were totally fine with me saying no. So That’s a weight off my shoulders.

It’s not that I agree about the rules or want to comply it’s more that iv been on my own this long so what’s the point for one day. I don’t care about getting ill but I have a massive fear of having to isolate so my decisions are all based around that.

Bytheloch · 25/11/2020 20:13

Yes wax I know of a few walking groups (we are in the same T4 area, so probably walking the same routes😉 I’ll be looking out for 3 of you and calling the dentist) .
I meant more officially, whereas England up to 6 people can walk together without judgement, we can’t walk with 5 other friends, for example🤷‍♀️

Yes do it! (Suggestions for gifts inside- paper hats, they bring joy, so no to them, obvs.)
WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 20:16

I hate walking and the great outdoors in general. So am just a curmudgeonly hermit now

AgentCooper · 25/11/2020 20:17

@RaspberryCoulis I loved that wee shop the Yarn Cake when I stayed up next to Queen Margaret Drive. I wonder if they have an online presence and I could order something.

Honestly, if Nicola tightens things further I will scream. It’s awful seeing all the wee shops closed while Morrison’s and Tesco are rammed. And I want my fucking swimming pool back, I felt like my mental health was finally, finally improving after the worst year since I had PND. I love the way the SNP are distracting us today with the free period products in public buildings when if you live in Glasgow and plenty of other places there has been barely any access to public buildings since March.

Well it's cheap to offer it "free" when in reality no-one can access.

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 20:27

It’s also really fucking annoying as it was a Labour MSP’s bill!’nn

AgentCooper · 25/11/2020 20:37

I hope they get thrown out on their arses at the next election but I doubt it as their acolytes would still think they were the second coming if they were murdering baby deer whilst doing a campaign about how much Scotland loves baby deer.

They just talk so much shite. Scotland loves and welcomes refugees being a prime example. The same refugees that they said nothing about when they were removed from their accommodation and put into hotels without any allowance or possessions. It’s all bullshit.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 20:38

Apparently theres mutterings that already bubbled households will count as 2 rather than 1.

The only things left they can tighten is a Welsh style cover up the clothes and toys in the essential shops and close schools.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 20:40

I'm just so fed up with the whole lot of it.

Trouble is unless Labour and Tory form a coalition i cannot see them ousting SNP.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 20:55

And the alcohol aisles?

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 25/11/2020 20:57

Labour and Lib Dem maybe, but still unlikely to be enough.

Or Con/Dem again but Scottish this time!

Sadly they will still be the main party but hopefully with a reduced number! I think Labour and Lib Dems will do better next year as many voters will turn against the Tories and SNP after this year.

Runs to check alcohol supply! 😂
icanboogieboogiewoogie · 25/11/2020 20:59

I really don't want tighter restrictions until Christmas. I can handle tier 3 pretty much come to terms with never having a pint in a pub again, but I was hoping to go for a coffee and cake with a friend, maybe go for a non-alcoholic lunch, take the kids swimming...
I'm not travelling to see family as I don't want to put anyone at risk so really don't want to have to cancel my, albeit limited, life so folk can cram into houses for one day.

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 21:01

There totally would be rioting from this household if that were the case...

Love the 2m cracker! You should market that idea.

Am now really really worried Gypsy Lee bikingbear was right about the toughening of restrictions leading up to Christmas. I hadn't picked up on that statement re:Scotland planning the toughest restrictions. WTF. Its not a competition....

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 25/11/2020 21:07

Tighter really ?!? FFS January will be a bloody ball - imagine the telling off Hmm

However the nearest hobbycraft is over the (council) border in tier 3, and you can be sure I class that as essential shopping YES I can confirm that all sewing related shopping is absolutely ESSENTIAL, you don’t even need to actually shop but being able to stroke fabric is a human right Grin —but I don’t like hobby craft—

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 21:09

Oh, I really hope so. I couldn't bear another term of them with a majority, or so close to one. But I'm not convinced... I think people have been comparing NSs performance favourably against BJ because she can string a sentence together and ignoring the many cock ups and needless trashing of businesses in the name of "safety". Also, there's not any convincing opposition, sadly. I'd love Labour to do better, and there are some very good politicians there (like Monica Lennon who proposed the period products bill which the SNP seem to have claimed...) but I really can't see it happening.
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 25/11/2020 21:09

Brain working slowly if we’re all locked down & not allowed to travel until the magic few days of Christmas surely every road & public transport is going to be rammed?

I had thought they would ease up 11th until bauble 🤮 time

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 21:18

Runs to check alcohol supply! 😂

I've already stocked up - mostly it's meant to be gifts but any port in a storm.

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 21:19

Yup, this. Its going to be even worse than usual on Christmas Eve. I'm really not sure forcing everyone who needs to get the train into travelling on one or two days is a fantastic idea...

Also, surely if we're not allowed to do anything up til Christmas, people will think they've done their isolation, so will be more likely, rather than less to take up the bubbles, and visit granny. Is that what they are intending? I'm so confused with the psychology of it all.

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 21:20

Where’s it saying tighter regs? Is this now?

I’ll be truly fucked off if this is billed as saving Christmas

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 21:21

Me too. We are at the dangerous stage of having more wine bottles than we have cupboard space to put them. Though I'm doing a good job at remedying that before anyone outside our household gets a chance to notice...
