This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

yeah, to me it's a shame that young folk who would normally be out and about in pubs and clubs aren't able to do so. Loads have just turned 18 and aren't really living the life of 18 year olds.

So, I'm trying to be tolerant to a point. I just don't think they are aware how far noise travels. I'd be happy for noise to 1am for a special occasion, 12 for a normal weekend and 11 or before if it's a week night so not a complete cow, but i'm talking after 2 am so patience wore thin.

I'm generally more for just taking the bull by the horns though so deal with the problem at source, hence getting dressed and having a word through the fence at 2 in the morning.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 25/11/2020 17:33

DM says she and DF want to go away somewhere in Scotland for a few days over xmas etc. We are in tier 4. Am I right that they are not allowed? I think she wants to go to Pitlochry, she normally goes there.

Bytheloch · 25/11/2020 17:51

Pitlochry is a 3 at the mo, so no, not now, the hotel can’t take their booking, but presumably none of that counts 22nd Dec until 27th, so they could nip away then (if hotels are accepting folk then?🤔🤷‍♀️)?

Feeling the nag from the FM today, she’s now offering unsolicited advice about keeping our houses clean and open ye windaes. Also reporting we are to have the tightest regulations out of all nations up to 22nd. Methinks this will be a double down on travel, possibly stopping people nipping away before the 22nd?

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 17:53

You can go anywhere for those 5 days over Christmas, 7 days if your going to NI.

However it probably further to go to Shetland but they didn't have anyone to fight their corner.

anon444877 · 25/11/2020 17:54

I wondered why NI got more and not a remote area allowance in general!

I'd get on the phone to the place your DM wants to stay, they'll know better if they can take the bookings or not and they may book up if that's the only time we can go anywhere.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 17:56

I knew it, I blinking knew it, check back my post from earlier!Angry

littlbrowndog · 25/11/2020 18:01

What fresh hell now

Fuck off keep your houses clean. Just fuck off or send cleaners out to clean our minging houses
Raging now

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 18:02

Anon I'd guess that the NI First Minister or whatever he's call fought for the extra time to allow for ferrys, bit of a drive if you going from London to Holyhead or to Stranrar, to get across.

But NS doesn't give a shit she doesn't want anything other than to say she did better with Covid out the 4 nations.
So never fought the case for the Islanders. Angry

anon444877 · 25/11/2020 18:16

Looks that way! Plus you have to wonder whether if we'd not been part of the Uk if we'd have been allowed to meet at all, she's not meeting her own parents!

Toughest rules, hmmm, I'd rather we had effective rules, it seems to be a slam dunk that tough = effective, I wonder how that will pan out across all the risks.

RaspberryCoulis · 25/11/2020 18:22

@StatisticallyChallenged

Same here: don't mistake my compliance for obedience, I'm just a lazy cow who would rather stay home and sew/craft. However the nearest hobbycraft is over the (council) border in tier 3, and you can be sure I class that as essential shopping
It absolutely is.

I feel really sorry for the wee yarn shops like the one in Queen Margaret Drive which is half wool shop, half cafe. They have struggled right through since March and might not come back from this when it's SO easy to order on Hobbycraft, Amazon or Ebay.

RaspberryCoulis · 25/11/2020 18:23

bet it means keeping us in tier 4 until then.

anon444877 · 25/11/2020 18:26

We're at the prison does work stage of covid. It's only 6 sleeps til advent calendar time and then we are so close to getting rid of 2020....

I bet its Tier 4 with the schools shut. It's all tying together with that rumour and what I was thinking. But you know what I wouldn't blame anyone for going away early.
RaraRachael · 25/11/2020 18:41

Can anyone remember how long we've not been allowed in each others' houses? It's so long ago that I can't remember. We seem to have had this rule for much, much longer than the rest of the UK.

Did I miss something today about cleaning our houses and opening the windees? Grin Grin Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 18:50

I do buy a lot online @RaspberryCoulis. Most of my fabric buying comes from small online companies now, there's so few fabric shops around now to actually go in person and a lot of them are very dated in terms of what they carry. It's shit for small businesses, a lot of their trade is impulse, people in the area for other shops, folk going for a coffee and buying something too.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 18:54

RaRa around 1st September for Glasgow, 21st or something for the next lot of councils.

runningpink · 25/11/2020 19:07

@RaraRachael the rules banning us for being indoors were announced on the 22nd September which I think came into force by the Friday.
Prior to that it was only really a short period of time we were allowed wasn’t it? Maybe a month?!

Perihelion · 25/11/2020 19:15

Non Glasgow areas, no household visits announced on the 23rd? September.
For flying to other countries which require it, I believe a private test is necessary, as they don't accept results from NHS testing service.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 19:15

Google says 1 Sept for two weeks.
Then they added to it, did the circutbreaker in October, the tiers.

But yes I think we were only allowed in the house for about a month.

Bytheloch · 25/11/2020 19:21

Apparently the briefing today strayed into chats about the possible dangers of passing roast potatoes around the table with the same spoon and envelopes containing Christmas cards that Covid likes to live on (smooth, shiny envelopes are evil). Suggested having plenty of hand sanitiser handy whilst opening presents. 🤦‍♀️
Give me strength.

What next, socially-distanced crackers that are 2m long?

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 19:23

Honestly its beyond a joke.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 19:27

Has she ever heard the tail of the boy who cried wolf???

I'm not saying covid doesn't exist or that it's not dangerous. But you know what will happen with all her over egging it. People really will stop listening. We'll end up with a 3rd wave or another virus altogether and people are so fatigued from SD, missing family and friends that they really will ignore.

Bytheloch · 25/11/2020 19:42

sorry Rookie, I know you’d prefer to keep politics out of this thread, but it’s impossible to avoid at this stage*😳

Whilst England is to be more relaxed about households mixing in the run up to 22nd Dec, we are to get tighter restrictions, tomorrow! How much tighter can it be? Here in rural T4, no indoors, no gardens, not more than 2 friends at once for a walk. No hospitality premises open indoors or outside table. No leaving your council area.
What is left to restrict our ‘mixing’ further? Are we getting our shoes removed or perhaps our front doors boarded up? Seriously, how much grimmer can it get?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 25/11/2020 19:44

I’ve been musing lately that this overstating the risks of COVID might actually be counterproductive as more and more of us know people who’ve had it and the ‘dangers of this deadly disease’ seems less in step with our lived experience. I know a couple of people who’ve tested positive now and there was barely a symptom between them, and I’m sure this must be the same for many others, as generally it IS a mild disease except for in very specific groups. It just makes all these over the top measures (taking your own plates, sanitising after exchanging cards etc.) seem like a hysterical overreaction, and I wonder if people are starting to ignore the lot of it.

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 19:53

Is she making things tighter???!!!!
