This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

Since we are seeing no one, I'll be a bit miffed to have extra costly holiday days foisted on us! It is what it is this year though!

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 14:15

@StatisticallyChallenged

Interestingly we had an email from dd's school this morning saying there's a case of covid and they're working with t&t, followed by one a few hours later saying actually nobody in the school has been identified as a close contact. That's the first we've had
Weird! Maybe someone came down with symptoms on Monday, so hadn't been in contact with anyone in the school for the previous 48 hours?

rookie oooh, that's interesting about the test centre, thanks. I thought they were rolling out more widespread testing anyway (for asymptomatic students travelling etc) , but presumably that hasn't kicked in yet. Typical that once again those who can afford it will get to pay for a service others can't access...

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 14:18

There is probably very little science behind the 5 days and 3 houses other than limiting the damage done to the covid rates and trying to balance mental health for people with a distance to travel.

The cost of tests is supposed to be falling soon...

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 14:21

Rookie that is good news about testing at Edinburgh. I knew BA and Boots were working together to get to a point where people could get a rapid test before boarding a flight. But fab to hear it's available.

rookiemere · 25/11/2020 14:26

Sadly not instant or same day results. It's on the Scotsman website sorry I'm rubbish at links, costs I think were £70 if you're flying somewhere or £99 if not which is cheaper than I've seen elsewhere.

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 14:52

Yes... £100 each for a family is still quite pricey though for the "same" service you could get for free if you lied about having symptoms. The 20 minute one would be good as I don't think that's available widely yet, even though its less reliable I think. Wonder if you could get multiple swabs and do a "pooled" test for your family. You wouldn't know who had it if it came back positive (unless someone developed symptoms) but given you'd all have to isolate, it probably wouldn't make any difference, and would stop potentially transmitting it to your bubble.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 14:56

Awww Sheep you've given me visions of the same swab getting passed round the family. Covered in everybody's boogers

anon444877 · 25/11/2020 14:58

When you travel to somewhere that tests on arrival if you don't already have a recent negative test, under 11/12 usually don't have to test.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 15:04

@littlbrowndog

I thought what stats wrote was the facts.

That’s how far down th3 rabbit hole I am.

😂

😳 sorry! It is getting that way though, hard to sort truth from satire
WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 15:17

😂😂

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 15:18

That was for @StatisticallyChallenged

What if I bring my own banana boat for the Clyde?

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 15:25

Ewwwwww! No, even to save a few hundred pounds that would be grim. A clean swab for everyone, just put them all together in the same little pot of liquid which (I presume) dissolves whatever is on the swab and gets run through the machine. Though not sure what happens to boogers under normal protocol.
StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 15:26

Can you prove your boat has not been to England?
runningpink · 25/11/2020 15:29

@StatisticallyChallenged thanks for the laugh I needed that today

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 15:46

Sheep I guessed that's what you meant the second time I read it.
But you've given me a good laugh at some sort of Rab C comedy sketch with a family passing the same minging swab around, fighting who's first, right your next, EnvyGrin I needed a good laugh.

Reality who's going to pay £100 for a test when you can go online, book one for nothing as you have a cough, made up or otherwise. However maybe they Edinburgh folk are a bit more honest than those in the West.

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 15:46

Ma boat is pure dead Scottish

never were truer words typed... :o :o :o

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 15:51

I now sit in the middle and my take would be that if I was honest, I'd worry that I was also stupid but would also worry about being dishonest as it's contrary to being from Edinburgh... :o

NotAnActualSheep · 25/11/2020 16:04

@WaxOnFeckOff

Haha! I can feel your internal conflict...

In principle I can see the benefit of paying to get a private test that doesn't take away from the NHS resources and lab time etc. I agree symptomatic people and NHS workers should get priority for those. In practice, paying £100 for everyone in the family for the same "service" on the same timescales, and presumably using the same lab, is more than my principles are worth, so I would lie. Blush

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 16:09

However thinking it through. If you book and NHS test in theory you should SI until results. That won't be case for a just incase private number.
But I'd probably act daft.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 25/11/2020 16:09

bring yer own gravy boat 😂

Urgh Wax that’s me too (also now in the middle) won’t break the rules but spend my time bitter that I’m a mug not to break them 😆

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 16:15

@Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons I guess I'm the one putting my own spin on it lol.

I would say I'm obeying more by sheer laziness than actual compliance, but if I wanted to do something that rated low in the risk factor I'd do it.

I certainly don't sit here worrying what others are doing. It does however have a bit of an advantage this covid stuff. A neighbours teenager had folk round in the garden a couple of weeks in a row. I went out and gave them a volley in the early hours for noise thinking that was that. 2nd week, someone called the cops and they actually turned up and dealt with it. Normally a noise complaint wouldn't elicit much of a response but clearly the fact that they might be breaking covid rules had the car round swiftly.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 25/11/2020 16:22

I’ve embraced the rules that require us to see less family 😂

I’m not busy checking how far from the LA border our walk is....

Police must be sick of breaking up parties otoh I suppose there are no clubs to raid just now & they always seemed to enjoy that back in the day!

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 16:23

Same here: don't mistake my compliance for obedience, I'm just a lazy cow who would rather stay home and sew/craft. However the nearest hobbycraft is over the (council) border in tier 3, and you can be sure I class that as essential shopping
