I thought shops were told to bring back distancing measures. Ours seem to occasionally have someone at the door but that's it - can be quite busy inside and people getting up close. Mask wearing increasing but some who don't wear masks or distance. Buses increasingly busy as well.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/10/2020 21:13

Love the tshirt @WaxOnFeckOff - missed it whilst stat ranting! oops

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2020 21:13

Ds been to a 1000 pupil school since August. No closures

anon444877 · 28/10/2020 21:15

Sorry to hear you've had turns with the mask wouldbegood.

OOAOML · 28/10/2020 21:16

I wish we had better measures in school. High school seems to depend on half-hearted desk wiping, one way systems to reduce corridor crowding that lots of people ignore and keeping the windows open - the kids are feeling the cold already and at least they get to move about. And PE outside in the rain with no changing. It doesn't feel sustainable once the proper cold weather arrives.

RaspberryCoulis · 28/10/2020 21:16

I have kids in S1, S4, and S6. There have been several (around 6) cases across the S4,5,6 year groups. None of them have been caught in school, it's all transmission within families, with a child who happens to be at school.

We've missed the self-isolation dance so far, but don't expect to always be so lucky.

ssd · 28/10/2020 21:20

@WouldBeGood

I’ve had a few proper turns with the mask on. That’s made me wary so I avoid places I have to wear them but for the bare minimum. It’s a nasty feeling but overwhelming
Can you get a lanyard? That sounds awful.
StatisticallyChallenged · 28/10/2020 21:21

I know of one person who caught it in school - actually in an after school club. From one of the staff, who also it seems infected several other staff. Oops!

I believe my daughter's school had a case in one of the senior years which seems to have been similar - originated outside school.

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2020 21:43

Thanks @anon444877 and @ssd I’d feel too bad doing a lanyard and stressed about confrontation.

It’s the weirdest feeling, it creeps over me and I feel like everything is getting far away, and then just want to cry and get it off me. Particularly weird as I’m a normally stoic non crier 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just go to shops as briefly as possible. It’s quite hard as I’m a single parent

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/10/2020 21:45

I struggle with them too - I have autism and they're all I can think about when they're on, hot, stuffy...can't see anything. I had the joy of trying to view houss to buy wearing one and I just couldn't begin to get a feel for the places

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2020 21:50

At least it’s not just me. I wasn’t expecting it!

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/10/2020 21:52

DS1 has form for fainting. he's 6'3 and 14 stone so I struggle to hold him up if he starts to go and obviously a big drop if he goes down. He gets like that if he gets too warm and/or anxious. We went on a wee booze run before our hols, 10 minutes in Lidl and he was chalk white and not feeling good and i didn't like to send him out on his own so that was a quick check out while he sat down at the back of the till. Then was going to leave him in the car for the 2nd stop, but he had to come out as by then he needed the toilet. Really reluctant to go out on his own and obviously not great taking him out with us either unless mask is on for the briefest of times.

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2020 21:56

I feel less weird now. DP snapped at me in the shop for holding it off my face when it happened, but has been much nicer since

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2020 21:57

I was in the Waitrose in the west end trying to choose veg! My favourite outing 😂

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/10/2020 21:59

Nah, Booths is a proper favourite outing. Knocks Waitrose into a cocked hat.

ssd · 28/10/2020 21:59

I need to wear one at work for 8 hours. I'm panicky about covid since dh had it and the mask makes me feel worse. And I'm menopausal.

Not good.

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/10/2020 22:00

Not a good combination ssd Sad

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2020 22:14

@WaxOnFeckOff I did live in the back of beyond for a long time and never experienced a fancy supermarket 😂 What’s booths?

Justmuddlingalong · 28/10/2020 22:31

Booths Christmas book link
😍

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/10/2020 22:33

Booths are a wonder to behold. They are a family chain based in the North of England. We sample the delights when we are in the Lakes, they also produce a proper bound Christmas food book.

My list of supermarkets goes

Booths
M&S
Waitrose/Sainsbury's
Tesco/Morrisons

I'll leave Asda/Lidl/Aldi unrated as I rarely ever use them

Costco has it's own category as you can't do a normal weekly shop there.

I shop in waitrose when they give me big money off vouchers. I like their own pizzas and they do some tasty apples but I find a lot of their stuff really bland. DH likes their dried fruit and chocolate. They do a nice organic loaf that needs reheated in the oven. Nice on a Saturday morning so you can have it warm with soup for lunch.

For a day to day shop then I prefer Sainsburys.

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 05:23

@Justmuddlingalong thank you, oh my, how have I missed this for all these years?!

And I used to live very near England 😃

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 05:26

I love Waitrose fruit and veg. And loads of stuff, really. As I say, I used to live like a bumpkin. Abd am still super excited for the sheer range of stuff.

New Lidl near me is very glossy and lovely too.

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 06:13

Just leaving this here in case any statistics people can look

anon444877 · 29/10/2020 08:03

Hmm I need to make a trip to a booths as that sorting is pretty much my list. At the minute dd is relieved I'm off to M&S to get her birthday cake - I said I was going to make her one this year and the crestfallen face last night and tears was not good for my ego 😂.

On the whole though, I agree with her cake analysis.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 08:29

Nearest Booths is probably Penrith but I personally prefer Keswick. Now I'm slavering over the pies in the deli counter. To be fair our recent visit had a lesser selection of open fresh bread and rolls/baked goods for covid reasons, but still lovely.
