I'm not sure the legal basis for it in perpetuity for a government to exert so much control for so long - you can mix any number of households in school, for work, but not for family/social/community organisation reasons - it'll never stick long term and silly that the tier 0 is not at 'old normal'.

Have I whinged enough for one night? off to bed!

frasersmummy · 25/10/2020 21:39

@BlueThursday if you are on android go to settings and then. Google

You will see your covid exposures on there. Tap it and it will show matches

If you're on iPhone.. No idea.. Sorry

waitforitwaitforit · 25/10/2020 21:40

It's so bloody stupid.
Person 1: so we'll have 3 levels- 1-5.
Person 2: no, the highest level should be 4 so we'll have to start at 0.
Confused
And if 0 is still, to my untrained eye, pretty damned restricted, what is 'normal'? Sub-zero?

What a crock of shite.

(And I say this as an ex SNP member, and still pro-independence yes voter.)

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2020 21:41

So, who is all planning a funeral for their turkey on Christmas day? 20 people allowed indoors.

BlueThursday · 25/10/2020 21:44

Aha I have an iPhone they must be different

WouldBeGood · 25/10/2020 21:45

@WaxOnFeckOff Christmas is when I’m embracing the regulations. I’m fucked if the ruin my life for a year and then I have to have my relatives for Christmas 😂😂

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2020 21:48

DH keeps saying to tell everyone we are having the whole family round so someone dobs us in and we get a knock on the door from the police on Christmas day for them to be faced with....all 4 of us - which we deem our whole family. :o We have no parents, we do have siblings but too many to host and they have their own families anyway.

Ds will be coming home from University regardless, and we are happy to have his girlfriend over (who he lives with at Uni) as much as she and he wants, I'm sure he will be similarly welcome at hers.

mondaywine · 25/10/2020 22:10

It’s been a long time since I frequented one but it seemed that at even at the lowest tier, nightclubs would not be open. So there will be no nightclubs in Scotland ever again? How can tier 0 still have restrictions? Bloody twattery indeed.

throwingawaymyshot · 25/10/2020 22:10

can anyone remind me of the link to the website that tells you how many cases in your local authority and which towns are red etc. Not travelling tabby but it was another one I saw.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2020 22:18

@throwingawaymyshot

This one:

cheers! was wanting to send it to a friend.

WouldBeGood · 25/10/2020 22:27

Oh dear. I’m doomed.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/10/2020 23:05

funeral for their turkey

Surely you have an annoying in law kicking around Grin

The neighbourhood tracker is interesting. My town (having left Auld Reekie) has a population of about 9400 although I suspect it's higher than their official numbers as there has been a shitload of new housing just built and moved in to. Porbably 10k really. They've split it in to two areas, each of which is showing as having 1-4 cases. Because of the split one area shows as 30-49 cases per 100k, the other as 50-74. Because the numbers are so small and don't line up you can basically work out that the town has had 2 or 3 cases in one half and 1 or 2 in the other half.

For 3-5 cases, every pub and restaurant is shut.

And before anyone says, yes I understand R numbers, growth, etc. Username is ironic. But 3-5 cases amongst 10,000 people should be easily managed with a GOOD, local, trusted, track and trace system. It is a tiny number.

Instead we're on full central belt restrictions.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2020 23:11

I know statistically. I should really stop looking at the stats as they only make me angrier that so many local businesses are on their knees and no-one in the local area who would be nipping in for a pub lunch or whatever has tested positive.

Because remember also, those are positive PCR tests rather than actual people with covid.

Ecosse · 25/10/2020 23:20

Interesting figures on that neighbourhood map. Edinburgh is now down to just 87 cases per 100,000 and Falkirk 91 per 100,000 with full restrictions still in place.

Yet Dundee has 176 per 100,000 and hospitality still open. Makes no sense!

Glasgow is 287 per 100,000 and North and South Lanarkshire at 327 and 363 respectively.

I’m hoping Edinburgh and the forth valley can get tier 2. But I suspect that will not happen for political reasons.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2020 23:26

Yes, and someone on a thread was suggesting that the higher rated areas were due to poverty and all those sitting in lovely middle class areas were suffering because of it. I know Edinburgh well enough to look at the map and see that that just isn't true. At the time I looked it was a bit of a mix with some traditionally poorer areas having very few cases and some more affluent having many more. Some areas clearly higher because of student accommodation such as Dalkeith road being a hotspot.

I couldn't do the same for Glasgow as I don't know it well enough, plus virtually all areas were red...

I'm Stirlingshire now and very hacked off.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/10/2020 23:38

Haven't looked at Edinburgh for a week or so, but when I looked before it looked like studenty areas and city centre were the worst. I seem to recall Dean Village was high, Inverleith etc. It definitely wasn't the poor areas.

East and Midlothian and Edinburgh are all lower - West Lothian is higher and the shared health board is an issue. I suspect Edinburgh took a hit from the initial student influx too.

Ecosse · 25/10/2020 23:43

@StatisticallyChallenged

Yep, Edinburgh did not have many cases at all before the students arrived. Hopefully that issue has died down now and cases will continue to decline.

Glasgow and Lanarkshire on the other hand have had high numbers for months, long before the start of uni term. If any area goes into tier 4, I would expect it to be Lanarkshire.

RaspberryCoulis · 25/10/2020 23:54

I think the problem with the map showing neighbourhoods is that a very small increase can really skew the numbers.

We're showing 7 cases in the last 7 days out of a population of 3,800 which by my maths puts us at 180 ish per 100,000.

But as everything on their map over 100 per 100,000 is red, there is no differentiation. I found another area in South Lanarkshire which has a similar population and 25 cases per for their 3800 people - about 3.5 times more than where I am. But they're red too.

WouldBeGood · 26/10/2020 04:24

Please don’t let anyone get put in tier 4 😱

throwingawaymyshot · 26/10/2020 06:09

I can't seem to get right into my local authority. I can only seem to hover over it. Can anyone help tell me how to get into it properly?

Anyway from hovering over, I can see Inverclyde is pretty low compared to surrounding areas which is interesting. Argyll and Bute is also very low but I'd be keen to see how Helensburgh is looking hence not knowing how to get right in to see?

throwingawaymyshot · 26/10/2020 06:22

got it now.

My town has the highest rate in the LA. fan dabby dosey

Helensburgh looks red, but numbers are still fairly low, so the influx from dumbarton glasgow etc to go to the pubs hasn't seemed to have had much effect yet.

Torvean32 · 26/10/2020 06:37

Leitch made out that the areas across the central belt will be a 3 with just north and south of there at 2.
Will wait to see what Wee Nippy says though i guess.

anon444877 · 26/10/2020 06:48

Before I saw the tier structure I was hoping for tier 2 which I thought would allow indoor play dates/having the odd family or friend over - since that's tier 1 which in my wildest dreams Edinburgh isn't going to get to anytime soon, I no longer care whether we are 2 or 3 as it doesn't make much difference to my life.

And what about foreign travel - is that still essential only in tier 0?

Don't forget to spread positivity this Monday 😀

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/10/2020 07:50

Foreign travel is basically covered in 2 ways:

  • quarantine rules (depending where you are coming from)
  • rules on travelling out of your area (depending on tiers)

Tier 3 and 4 technically shouldn't be leaving the area unless for an exempt reason so shouldn't be going on holiday. I think tiers 0-2 are fine to leave but still have to consider the quarantine.

That's my reading of it anyway
