October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

I think you are right as it was the old meat market.

And yes, goldbergs. Used to go see Santa there. I'm also convinced that a pet shop in Tollcross had a large cat, puma/leopard or something in it, but that might just be an overactive imagination.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/10/2020 09:45

It's also amazing the things we were allowed to do on our own. I remember going from the south side of the city to the bottom of leith walk, changing buses, to go for a Highland dance exam in the community centre at the back of the precinct. I'd never been there before but off I trotted, on my own. I only ever did the one exam. I found the certificate when clearing my mums house a couple of years ago.

I was age 7!

I had a Saturday job at Goldbergs in Candleriggs in Glasgow

Lovely distraction from the topic. Fat Sam’s and Le Sept (🤣 yes, grown up dining!) Pizza at an unreasonable hour off Lothian road was from takeaway kebab place, TopKapi? Walk all the way home from there eating pizza, basically keeping it really classy🤣 I’m really showing my age when I also ask, Fingers piano bar post-work, anyone? Or just me 😳🤣?

iskwobel · 12/10/2020 14:43

@Bytheloch fingers piano bar yes!!! It was open till all hours

AnnieHoo · 12/10/2020 15:04

Fingers Piano Bar for 'ten to two, you'll do'. Grin. Can't remember what we ate on the way home.

Goingdooolally · 12/10/2020 15:37

I think Fingers piano bar is still on the go. My husband always ends up there after a works night out. Grin

Back to the subject :o

Check the postcode of where you are going in England and it should tell you what the level of restrictions are in place:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54373904

Mine is currently normal England rules apply - woo hoo!!

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/10/2020 15:59

or maybe that's still the old one? Says updated at 10.30 this morning Confused

rookiemere · 12/10/2020 16:01

Oh that is helpful @WaxOnFeckOff , do you think it's due for further updates based on what Boris says later though?

rookiemere · 12/10/2020 16:03

Oh sorry you just answered that. Am veering towards Pooley Bridge as a destination as slightly more scenic than Stockton-on-tees and can still see relatives.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/10/2020 16:16

I watched a little bit and sure he said about being able to check your postcode on the .gov website but couldn't see it and in my rush, found the bbc one. Why would they bother to update it today when we were waiting on Boris?

Anyway, been to Pooley Bridge, and sure it has a pub with loads of space out the back to sit and leads down to the water. One Easter it was scorchio and we'd come off the Ullswater ferry so had a meal out there. It was perfectly acceptable. DS2 has always wanted to go back as he had Hunter's chicken and there was a hundred weight of melted cheddar on top and huge bucket of chips.

WouldBeGood · 12/10/2020 16:26

Looking ok for my trip so far... slightly on edge lest new announcements come but fingers crossed!

Another late night Fingers Piano Bar goer here, and it is still going! We also used to go to Late m Live at the Gilded Balloon in the Cowgate at the festival, then to the bar next door for dancing, then breakfast, then change for work. Those were the days!

Bytheloch · 12/10/2020 16:41

We are heading off tomorrow to s/c accommodation in rural area of Eng, but also hope to see a relative there we haven’t seen for nearly a year. We’ll be using our common sense and making our own risk assessment around what else we’ll be doing whilst there.
Hope those of us lucky enough to be getting away can make the best of autumn outdoors during the day and enjoy staring at four new walls, whilst cuddling a glass of BYO in the eveningsGrin

Bytheloch · 12/10/2020 16:42

We should start an Edinburgh nostalgia thread to see us through the dark months ahead...

iskwobel · 12/10/2020 16:50

Would be so up for that. We will all need to name change for it though as I'm pretty sure we will all know each other IRL Smileand then I will have to rein in my wilder rants on here🤣

Rae36 · 12/10/2020 17:44

Fingers Piano Bar. Haven't thought about that place in years. Happy days. I can't imagine cramming into a bar like that ever again without wondering how many people are breathing on me

WouldBeGood · 12/10/2020 18:02

@Rae36 I can’t bloody wait! 😂

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/10/2020 18:59

Derbyshire (High Peak - the wards of Tintwistle, Padfield, Dinting, St John’s, Old Glossop, Whitfield, Simmondley, Gamesley, Howard Town, Hadfield South, Hadfield North) are High, so no meeting indoors but rule of 6 outdoors, not sure if there is anything else so not sure if that would affect what you want to do @WouldBeGood

WouldBeGood · 12/10/2020 19:05

@WaxOnFeckOff thank you! Hopefully will be fine

Rae36 · 12/10/2020 19:16

No! I want to go to Chester on Friday!

Rae36 · 12/10/2020 19:17

Oh hang on, Chester is just high, not very high. Ffs
