October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

@WaxOnFeckOff are you going to the Lake District? I think you'll be fine. We're going on Monday for five nights and I've been watching closely but don't think the restrictions will apply to that region. Fingers crossed you get away x

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/10/2020 18:15

Thanks @Goingdooolally, i'm usually a fairly positive person but just not feeling it at the moment.

@trumpisaflump, yes, theoretically it should be ok but wondered if it would be caught up in the "North West" in the same way as we are caught up in the central belt, even though our positive tests aren't that high. It's all due to creep from Glasgow...Hmm

Hope you have a lovely time in the Lakes. We were hoping to get a meal out at the Turkish place in Cockermouth but we shall have to wait and see.

trumpisaflump · 09/10/2020 18:20

@WaxOnFeckOff we've booked dinner out each night so I'll be gutted if they shut the restaurants

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/10/2020 18:25

We don't get in our accommodation until 5pm on the Monday so intend to have a nice meal in, it's just the 3 of us as DS2 is a student in Aberdeen and it's too far really plus I don't think he is allowed anyway.

Tuesday the Turkish place is shut so we would probably just pick up something nice from Booths to take home after a walk.

Wednesday lunch or dinner in Turkish

Thursday, we hoped to have dinner in the small bar/restaurant on site so we don't have any clearing up to do as we've to be out by 9am. Don't think DS1 has seen that time of day for a while!

As you can see a wild time to be had either relaxing in the lodge or out walking and possibly a supermarket visit. I love Booths and would miss not popping in.

Goingdooolally · 09/10/2020 18:26

Still waiting to hear if our rental up north will take us or cancel. Hurry up! It’s a week tomorrow.

On a positive note Edinburgh is looking gorgeous today as the sun goes down. I’ve just been walking in town. Stunning. The colours lift my heart ❤️

DS1 may have on-line Uni things to attend but seems to only be a couple of hours a week. he's hoping to finish any assignments before we go.

trumpisaflump · 09/10/2020 18:28

@WaxOnFeckOff I looooooove Booths. Wish we had them here

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/10/2020 18:28

I hope you get your trip @Goingdooolally.

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/10/2020 18:30

Booths is the best. Knocks M&S and Waitrose into a cocked hat.

rookiemere · 09/10/2020 18:37

I've just been out with my pal having a last hurrah lunch at The Mussel Inn and a drink at the Caledonian ( Edinburgh).

I spoke to the lovely waitress at the Caledonian, as from well now really people can only get wine in their room and they're closing the restaurant and people will have to eat in their rooms or in the cafe area.

We're meant to be going down to Stockton-on-tees next weekend as we have relatives there - staying in a Premier Inn, only meeting them for walks. It's only a couple of nights, so provided they're still open and people aren't banned from meeting up outdoors, we're going even if we have to have takeaway both nights.

Out lovely dog sitter is desperate to get away from her parents in another part of Scotland for a break, so I've got about three back up Scottish options lined up if the English measures are too draconian.

TBH sitting in a room at the Caledonian seems like a reasonable option at this point in time Grin.

Well that’s me made it to half term (teacher) phew!!! I have taken everything home with me just in case. Car is full ! We’ve 2 weeks off now. Got a pile of marking so I’m going to do that ASAP and relax. Hopefully we’ll get away, if not then we’ll need a plan B, maybe just some local stuff but a lot harder to motivate teenagers when it’s local. Hmm

Happy holiday goingdoolally. Still another week to go here!

Lidlfix · 09/10/2020 19:26

Limped to the finish line and just about pulled the pupils with me. Mistress- I hope your last week isn't too tough. This term has been brutal.

ScaramoucheFandango · 09/10/2020 19:29

Thank you to all teachers.

RaraRachael · 09/10/2020 19:41

Thank you ScaramoucheFandango We've had to work 9 weeks instead of our usual 8 up to tattie holidays and that extra week has made such a difference. We are all on our knees!

I'm getting away for 3 days next week - gnot much available to do but it's away from our house for a while Grin

titsbumfannythelot · 09/10/2020 19:45

Don't have anything useful to say here but 666 posts was troubling me

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 09/10/2020 19:53

Thank you to all teachers.

This! It was ds's first ever term and he was so nervous going in without the transition (preschool had been discussing it just before everything shut down)...now he's mad he's got a holiday.

A well deserved Gin for all of you.

WouldBeGood · 09/10/2020 19:54

It’s not often i feel sorry for teachers, but I think it’s really shite they’ve been expected to plunge back into work and then have the holiday pleasures and some relaxation snatched away

WouldBeGood · 09/10/2020 19:55

And I’m very grateful to the teachers who are inspiring my child now he’s started s1

AgentCooper · 09/10/2020 20:21

Hats off to the teachers. I swear I could cry with relief that my sister’s getting to go her wee break to Edinburgh, she’s been so stressed. She’s a teacher in a secondary school for children with global learning difficulties and the kids are very tactile, they just are. So she’s been worried for the past few weeks that someone would get a positive test and she’d have to isolate. Her main source of stress, however, is that her school’s class sizes actually increased by some distance post lockdown as a behavioural unit nearby was shut down and those kids moved to her school. Where they should not be, because they don’t have global learning difficulties and now the teachers are trying to teach with two different hats on at once. Needless to say, she does not hold the SNP in high regard.

Mistressiggi · 09/10/2020 20:26

What lovely posts Smile Flowers
My S1s have been the best part of my return to work, it's lovely to teach such a keen bunch of people. I haven't got through quite as much written work as normal as they are so keen to tell me stories about themselves, and I'm happy to give them the chance to talk Smile

ScaramoucheFandango · 09/10/2020 20:34

I think they would appreciate it.

My DC seemed happy enough over lockdown but I have seen them perk up going to school. So I'm grateful to the staff.

Goingdooolally · 09/10/2020 21:52

Ahhh that’s lovely thanks everyone 💗 One of my things to be grateful for is my pupils (well most of them anyway!) It’s been so uplifting to see how normal things are for them and how much they’re loving being back with their friends.

I walked past a load of S1 boys all throwing leaves at each other today, with much hilarity and I couldn’t stop smiling at them!

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 00:23

@ScaramoucheFandango sorry I missed earlier that you'd be interested in some different info. See above.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist covid denier. I quite like this guy as he explains things very straightforwardly and he has a nice accent! :D

He's done loads of stuff, some very detailed but this one is very recent and not too long and quite straightforward.
