As far as i can see the spread started in Glasgow then spread to the areas around it.
NS failed to sanction them properly.
She locked Aberdeen at 82 cases.

Cases in Grampian and the Highlands are low. We are now being unfairly sanctioned. The whole thing is a joke.

NS doesn't have the guts to fully lockdown Glasgow.

Ppl in Aberdeen have less trust in NS as this goes on.

Seems like Sturgeon has totally lost it now- she wants four nations talks on tightening rules that haven’t even gone into force yet.

I agree hospitality needs to be shut down, but because furlough ends next month the country can't afford to basically kill the entire hospitality industry. I suspect that if the UK gov does do the sensible thing and make more support available that hospitality will shut down.

Ecosse · 23/09/2020 21:28

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Hospitality should be absolutely be shut in Glasgow and should have been weeks ago.

I don’t see a reason to close or everywhere else though where there are very few cases. Many hospitality businesses won’t reopen.

EasyOver · 23/09/2020 21:30

Well it should have been shut in Glasgow but I don’t think the rest of Scotland’s hospitality industry should be punished. Furlough won’t (and hasn’t) save all jobs.

Arkadia · 23/09/2020 22:56

@Ecosse, oh dear! Chasing unicorns again?
@WaxOnFeckOff, thanks. Very interesting. Hopefully they will update it as we go.

BrazenlyDefying · 23/09/2020 23:29

We're also being told to book a flu jab.

But there is not enough vaccine and you can only get it if you're over 65. I suppose that's our collective fault for being naughty too.

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/09/2020 23:30

How fucking dare we be ineligible for a flu jab!!

BrazenlyDefying · 23/09/2020 23:33

Boots - over 65s only. Superdrug - no availability. Lloyds - only lets you book an appointment if you choose the over 65 jab from the drop down menu (irrespective of the fact that over 65s get one free at their GP).

Only option i've found is a £50 private GP in Glasgow city centre. Given that Boots/Lloyds charge £13, that's a bit of a rip off.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 24/09/2020 07:58

Hospitality in Glasgow needed to be shut down. The ban on visiting households there has not brought the R number below 1. So we all get this rule imposed upon us... why? I started to think she was doing the right thing when schools opened. But this rule doesn’t make sense in areas of low prevalence. Maybe it’s to make Glasgow comply better?! The full lockdown agenda NS seems to have is clearly to drive the Scottish economy as far into the ground as she can then blame the UK gov for not borrowing more money. It’s so depressing that it’s all in the quest of independence and people are just going along with it. I feel like we are being held hostage now. If hospitality all over Scotland is shut she will have a real problem with people complying. Scottish people’s livelihoods and mental health matter too. The BBC website also stated if we stay on the same trajectory as France/ Spain it won’t be anywhere near as bad as Whitty is saying. It’s hard to say yes I will blindly comply with this when all of my common sense tells me it’s not right. If they’d got the testing sorted we would not be in this situation anyway... that’s what they should be spending their time arguing about. Ensuring the testing and NHS can cope.

Arkadia · 24/09/2020 08:14

If hospitality closes and with the impossibility to visit anyone we will be pretty much where we were in march, but with schools open. FOR NOW.
That's going to be until may next year, to be repeated next September.

If you keep shielding the vulnerable with a coat of steel there will be a bigger and bigger pocket of vulnerable people (just like when you have a weak flu year) ready "for the picking" as soon as you stick your nose out of the door, meaning that whenever that happens there comes the outcry and the restrictions.

Scotslassie1 · 24/09/2020 08:36

Well said Arkadia. The burden shouldn't be carried by those that would need to shield for months at a time. Current restrictions are three weeks. There was a flattening in the curve once home visits were restricted in Glasgow. Hopefully this does the same for the multiple outbreaks across Scotland at the moment. Pubs and restaurants have much stricter guide lines since the Aberdeen outbreak also. I know police can't check each one but they're deemed safer than schools ( bit scary as a teacher !!)

RaffleYerself · 24/09/2020 08:38

This is going to last far, far longer than 3 weeks.

BrazenlyDefying · 24/09/2020 08:42

Of course it's going to last for more than three weeks. The whole three weeks thing is a red herring - that's just the time after which they have to look at it again.

RaffleYerself · 24/09/2020 08:44

It’s going to be like this for 6 months minimum. Probably more restrictions to come.

Arkadia · 24/09/2020 08:50

@Scotslassie1, if you think that this is going to last for three week I fear you are deluding yourself. It would make no sense to lift the restrictions, as no sooner do you do it, than the numbers will creep up.
In any case, there is an BBC article posted up-thread that shows that in the areas with restrictions numbers have gone up, down and remained constant, depending on the LA. Take your pick.
And why are the island LA in the same boat as they have had ZERO positives for ages? And what about is with our 40 odd cases over a week?

Scotslassie1 · 24/09/2020 09:12

Look I've not seen family for six months now. Getting a bit fed up with all the moaning from those who've just had restrictions implemented. If you live rurally and have family nearby you're unlikely to be hauled across the coals for visiting them.
Over and out.

WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 24/09/2020 09:20

How was there a flattening of the curve when home visits were restricted in Glasgow? The numbers there have just escalated.
The bars should have been shut down and travel restrictions imposed - same as in Aberdeen.

Arkadia · 24/09/2020 09:25

Also, @Scotslassie1, according to the BBC NS has started using the same vocabulary she employed over the summer, "drive down Covid to the lowest possible level", and we all know how well that has panned out.
This is not "flattening the curve", but house arrest. After Victoria we risk to end up in another penal colony

RaffleYerself · 24/09/2020 09:31

Why are you taking it personally? It’s an anonymous forum and people post for support.
Lazt · 24/09/2020 09:32

@BrazenlyDefying I managed to book Lloyd’s fly jabs for under 65 last night - just double checked my email confirmation and it’s definitely under 65 one. I hope I’m not taking slots needed for more vulnerable - surely that’s available through the NHS?

Have got the flu jab ever since becoming a parent Grin

Lazt · 24/09/2020 09:32

Flu flu not fly!

RaffleYerself · 24/09/2020 09:33

I normally get the flu jab every year at my local Boots. Hopefully the under 65yrs will get it soon.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/09/2020 09:36

Three weeks is just the timescale that things have to be reviewed by law. Most experts are saying we should expect this to go on for 6 months - basically until we’re out of the respiratory virus season. It’s going to a be a long haul for a population already burnt out from 6 months of restrictions, which makes it all the more important to make sure any measures are proportionate IMO.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 24/09/2020 09:50

Exactly this.
