2 households

I'm a bit sad about the change to only 2 households meeting up. For the past few weeks since the kids have been back at school I've met 2 friends once a week to eat lunch. We're all working from home, we just take an hour off in a Monday, bring our lunch and eat it together in someone's garden. It's been so nice. And now we can't any more.
And I think this is us for the winter, isn't it?

Funnily enough my brother, who generally socialises in Glasgow, says that the pubs are much quieter than they were, and that most of his friends (Young-ish single men) aren't going out.

WouldBeGood · 12/09/2020 23:31

I’ve been out to lots of restaurants in Glasgow and they seem very safe to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bikingbear · 13/09/2020 00:03

I’m also confused by the limits being the same indoors as outdoors, maybe it is as another poster said that as it’s getting colder people might be tempted to go indoors but I think I could get my head around this more if there had been more explanation of the logic behind these new rules.

Purely my guess, the virus doesn't spread outdoors because of UV Ray's. We are coming into winter so not as strong UV Ray's and less hours of daylight. Also people would be tempted by gazebos and other outdoor shelters which are really the same as indoor spaces.

But yes I agree a proper explanation would help get the message across.

Suggests to me that both situations are just as risky so I might as well be indoors where it's warm and dry. Not sure that's quite the outcome they are hoping for though

Rae36 that's very true. With or without proper explanation it will encourage more people to meet indoors.

waitforitwaitforit · 13/09/2020 19:44

I'd imagine that it's because people will meet outside, it'll rain / be freezing so they'll go indoors anyway.
Not sure how they'll enforce it in pubs/restaurants mind you: "Are the six of you from just two households?" "Aye, mate, flatmates." Grin

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii

I’m also a little hacked off that everyone is getting punished for a few flare ups in bigger cities, not really fair in the smaller areas that haven’t had any cases for months now
I agree. I live in Aberdeen we had a crappy 3 week strict lockdown for much lower cases.

I dont think schools should be shut as no major problems in them. I do think they should have the same travel ban as we did though.

UV rays really dont have any effect.

Outside you're far less likely to touch an infected surface than you are indoors. While suspended, viral particles will get quickly diluted by fresh air and droplets will fall to the ground rapidly where they can no longer be breathed in.

It is the inconsistencies that lead people to ignore the ever changing advice. When none of it makes any sense, why follow it. I cant go and work in my office, but I can go to the pub? It's all become political point scoring.

I think this is key. It’s all nonsensical. And inhumane as regards households mixing.
Ecosse · 13/09/2020 20:51

Absolutely @AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii. The vast majority of cases are in Glasgow and surrounding areas- 104 in Glasgow today and another 62 in Lanarkshire.

Many areas have very few- only only 4 in Fife, 4 in Forth Valley, 8 in Grampian and 5 in Tayside.

It seems to me like stronger action needs to be taken in Glasgow and the west rather than banning people having 2 friends in their gardens and DC playing outside everywhere.

I agree when you look at the map it's all spread round the same area. Yet theres little done to contain the spread.

I'm pissed that we had 3 weeks of lockdown and they have barely any restrictions.

waitforitwaitforit · 14/09/2020 20:02

It's not a competition. Grin

rookiemere · 14/09/2020 21:00

It was very awkward walking to my exercise class today. It's an organised activity that a neighbour runs, and normally walk up with her. But then my friend has started so that makes three. And then another neighbour has joined. So that makes four.

So ww can talk together - provided we are socially distancing - at the class, but on the way up we have to split into two groups of two or we'll be breaking the rulesConfused.

I totally get they have to set the limits somewhere, but it does feel a tad arbitrary what you are and aren't allowed to do.

WouldBeGood · 14/09/2020 21:11

I think it’s because it’s nonsensical and arbitrary that people just won’t comply.

waitforitwaitforit · 14/09/2020 21:51

Supposedly you can run with a larger group, but not walk. Hmm

Rassy · 14/09/2020 22:10

The Scottish Government website actually says that you may meet outdoors with up to four households at a time for exercise or activity...

rookiemere · 14/09/2020 22:48

@Rassy I thought the 6 from two households applied outside as well as in ? That would be good if not the case means I could continue to walk the dog with 2 friends.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 14/09/2020 22:49

Rassy, interested as to where it says that. Have a couple of friends I go on walks with, would be great to still be able to do that.

Wbeezer · 14/09/2020 23:33

Ive just checked the updated advice it says two households max 6 for outdoor exercise, i think @Rassy must be looking at previous guidelines.

Rassy · 15/09/2020 07:24

My running friend sent a screenshot from the government website on Friday - Exercise and activity. I have tried to attach it but no joy. Will ask her for the actual link

thereplycamefromanchorage · 15/09/2020 07:30

I have looked I can't see anywhere that it says more than two households, unless it's for organised exercise - so maybe a running club would count, but not walks with friends.

Rassy · 15/09/2020 07:31

Hopefully this is the screenshot attached

Drowninginwashing · 15/09/2020 07:33

Outdoor exercise is restricted to 2 household also
