2 households

I'm a bit sad about the change to only 2 households meeting up. For the past few weeks since the kids have been back at school I've met 2 friends once a week to eat lunch. We're all working from home, we just take an hour off in a Monday, bring our lunch and eat it together in someone's garden. It's been so nice. And now we can't any more.
And I think this is us for the winter, isn't it?

The 'advice' will be put into regulations on Monday so I guess it depends what shape the regulations take. Parties and meetings are ok although not advised this weekend but come Monday it could be a whole different landscape ...

Ecosse · 11/09/2020 13:36

@soloula

Yes- it depends how the regulations are worded. The household limits have always been guidance previously so I’d hope that continues. It’d be totally disproportionate otherwise.

I don’t see how they can enforce a 2 household limit legally without making everyone carry proof of address.

@Drowninginwashing

I am upset because im pregnant and my husband can't come into scans with me or be in hospital with us after the birth, but people can go to the pub. How does that make sense?!
Oh @Drowninginwashing is that definitely, definitely still the case? I thought it had been relaxed but if it hasn’t I really feel for you. It’s cruel.
Drowninginwashing · 11/09/2020 14:35

@AgentCooper i am so glad you took the time to ask me that, as it prompted me to recheck, and it turns out that as of 1st September partners are allowed a quick look at the baby on screen after the medical part of the scan has been done. I didn't know this and I am really pleased! He missed the 12 week (before this change) but will be able to take a peek at 20 weeks Smile

@Drowninginwashing that’s brilliant! A wee ray of sunshine on a cloudy day! I hope he enjoys your next scan Smile

WouldBeGood · 11/09/2020 16:12

I would like to know what the end game is. Locked up til/if vaccination? Trying eradication? What’s the actual point they’re aiming for?

mrs2468 · 11/09/2020 16:25

@Drowninginwashing where about in the uk are you? In Scotland since July partners can attend all pre and postnatal appointments as well as scans. Plus less restrictions around post birth visiting. I don’t believe that’s changed and I’m currently pregnant so have been keeping my eye on restrictions

Drowninginwashing · 11/09/2020 16:29

We are in Highlands and Islands (don't want to say exactly where as v small area). DH definitely was not allowed to attend my 12 week scan, i double checked on the day as well as before. Maybe different areas are doing it differently?

rookiemere · 11/09/2020 16:43

I agree @WouldBeGood . I dutifully rung up to change our shared UK family holiday - again - from this October to first week of summer 2021 school holidays. But in the back of my mind was the horrible thought of what if all this is still going on.

I heard an expert on the radio saying we stopped lockdown too early because cases weren't low enough, but then if we look at countries like France and Spain with a much stricter lockdown, that doesn't seem to have helped.

At the start of lockdown this was all about smoothing the curve, instead we flattened the hospital admissions in summer when people are more able to fight off viruses and let case numbers rise just as weather turned colder.

@aquamarine1

Hi *@Invisimamma* you can still go ahead. I have heard from my son's party venue (outdoors) and of the children are under 12 and the parents drop off then all fine.

I've written to my MSP this morning. This is just horrendous. There is zero nuance in the Scottish Government's approach, much less problem solving.

So venues or organisations that are classed as ‘covid secure’ (or whatever the arbitrary phrasing is) are allowed to have children under 12 dropped off, adults only from say the party organiser can stay. In these ‘secure’ environments children don’t count as households (so Beavers, Scouts, sport clubs etc) They do in the park though, so if they fancy a wee kickabout with a ball at the weekend only ‘two households’ allowed, so two kids passing back and forth to each other 🤔
Invisimamma · 11/09/2020 17:33

Organised activities, school, football club = fine for kids to mix households.

Private homes, gardens, parks, informal meets, entertainment and hospitality venues = not okay, 2 household limit applies, even for children under 12.

It doesnt matter what your venue decides, from Monday 14th that's the rules.

aquamarine1 · 11/09/2020 17:49

Thanks for the added info. Our party is still happening.

Bytheloch · 11/09/2020 18:36

@Invisimamma from what JL was saying this morning, a party venue would be classed as ok due to the measures in place, children not counted as households there. Maybe I didn’t pick it up correctly. Not surprising.

Anyway, NS is now ‘seeking guidance’ on the issue apparently. Test the waters on parent approval ratings and then apply UTurn formula, seems to be a recurring strategy.

Invisimamma · 11/09/2020 18:46

It's all so confusing and mixed messages. Jason Leitch told me directly that the household limit still applied to children's party, even if adults not present.

Groovee · 11/09/2020 18:58

I can mix with my 6 colleagues and the children so 27 households. But not meet up with my daughter at uni and her godmother 😭

Blackbear19 · 11/09/2020 19:04

It's all far too complicated, esp when you throw in the dispensation for single parents / single people and forming bubbles.

But the most bonkers bit is two lots of 6 folk can book tables in restaurants.

The rules should be the same all over the UK (with exception of local lockdowns). The other bonkers thing is quarantine regulations being differentConfused

WouldBeGood · 11/09/2020 22:45

I really do think the UK governments should have worked together on this, notwithstanding any political views.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 12/09/2020 13:12

It’s really now at the point where I’m just going to use common sense. There’s no reason why you can’t meet with people outside where there’s areas of low prevalence. I will still meet with friends for walks. If we can’t meet in restaurants I will just have them round to the house. I can’t and won’t support these rules.

I'm confused by this... that's not right??

Thoroughly fed up with this now. Gutted for my teenagers who are missing out on so much and dreading the long winter ahead of being so limited in what we can do.

Awrite · 12/09/2020 13:32

I'm guessing a lot of people will privately break the rules.

Back at work mixing with 500 people but no to a 7th person in my home. Nope.

My teenager sits in classes with 29 other teens + teacher × 6 subjects (not including PE, PSE and RE) but meeting 2 friends outside at the weekend is a no-no? Again, I can't see it. Mental health needs to be factored in here.

Most of my extended family will break the rules. We all kept to them strictly during lockdown.

Ecosse · 12/09/2020 14:43

Looking at the latest figures today, it’s clear that the big issue is in Glasgow and the west. 106 cases in Glasgow and 48 in Lanarkshire.

In contrast, there are many areas with very few cases- 5 in Fife, 1 in Forth Valley, 5 in Grampian, 4 in Highland, 4 in Tayside. There are not enough COVID cases in hospital to even give a figure in most areas- the overall number has remained similar over the last few weeks (despite the rise in cases) and is lower than it was in July and August).

It seems to me that stronger measures are needed in the West rather than banning D.C. from playing outside with 2 friends in areas with no cases. Why are pubs still open in Glasgow?

Rae36 · 12/09/2020 14:48

I havent a clue any more. My 8 yr old is meant to be going to a birthday party in someone's house and garden on Monday, the birthday kid and 4 friends, but also the birthday kids 2 sisters. So 7 under 11s. And his 2 parents. Other parents won't come in. Is this still allowed? I think yes since they're under the age limit, another parent thinks no, the birthday parent is in a state because she doesn't know either.
Fucking mess.
Luckily my 8 yr old had his similar thing just last week, a few friends round after school. That's all our birthdays out of the way now till June thank goodness.

Invisimamma · 12/09/2020 15:57

@rae36 no, because its more than 2 households. For under 12s its not the overall number that matters but the 2 household limit still applies.

Jason leotch has been very clear on this. Nicola Sturgeon says they are taking advice on whether that aspect can be relaxed.

@Ecosse I agree and I live in Glasgow. The pubs have been hoaching here for months.

It is utter shit that folk in Fife can’t go for a walk with two friends because of our numbers in the west. Which aren’t even that bloody high.

WouldBeGood · 12/09/2020 22:44

It’s all disproportions and ridiculous. They can’t stop the virus. Let’s just get on with it.
