Oops... sorry for the above post - i see you mean the 2 parents and 2 dc are one household so it isn't too many households. sorry.

WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 02/09/2020 16:41

Not really understanding why cafes restaurants and bars were all shut down in Aberdeen, but this isn’t happening in the Glasgow area.

The pubs were at fault in Aberdeen- not the cafes and restaurants. Businesses were put at risk through no fault of their own.

Yet none of these closures in Glasgow - even though people will obviously continue to mix with others in these business - especially in pubs.

It’s a pretty hypocritical decision.

fluffyugg · 02/09/2020 17:27

@WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner but it's not hypocritical...the evidence they have suggest that it's indoor gatherings in households that are the current problem in the Glasgow area not the pubs. That is the bottom line! Nothing hypocritical about it

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 02/09/2020 17:39

It's really not hypocritical and if you read/listened you'd know the reasoning behind it.

The government really are up against it when people make snap judgements without knowing what they're talking about.

aquamarine1 · 02/09/2020 17:51

These positive tests stem from house parties. If the people having house parties last week we're doing so when the rule was a maximum of 8 indoors, why would the same people pay attention to a more restrictive rule?.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 02/09/2020 17:53

They might not. But their family members might, so they might not spread it to those they would have otherwise.

Fuckwits gonna fuckwit is not a good argument for not doing something that will help the majority.

WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 02/09/2020 18:00

Excuse me. I have read the reasoning behind it. People are just going to move venue. It would seem prudent to me to close at least the pubs for a few weeks.

SockYarn · 02/09/2020 19:25

Isn't this an amazing way of deflecting attention from the SQA fiasco, and the U turn on "blended learning", and the Salmond case, and the Edinburgh sick kids fuck up, and the GERS figures, and everything else?

Get them all shit scared about covid and Saint Nicola can sweep in and keep us all "safe". Hmm

What a pile of absolute shite.

There are going to be no jobs left in Scotland the way Nippy is going on. Certainly not in the travel/airline or hospitality sectors. We all KNOW the risks. We've had six fecking months of her banging on about staying home and keeping away from other people. So much for treating us like adults and having an adult conversation, she treats the population like a bunch of pre-schoolers.

Eh, do you not think she’s been banging on about staying home and keeping away from other people for good reason?

Eh: folk weren’t doing it. Hence why we are in the position we are in now.

Honestly you sound like a guy who refuses to do anything for himself moaning about his wife nagging. No one wants to be a nag- but eventually we will be pushed to nag if you don’t bloody listen.

SockYarn · 02/09/2020 19:31

I also totally agree that if you were a bam planning to have a party in a flat in Glasgow this weekend, this new rule is changing nowt. Bams are bams. Bams will not change their behaviour, all this does is stop people seeing their parents or popping in for a coffee with a friend. (although they are free to go to the local coffee shop with their friend, or pub with their mum).

Must be a totally different virus, mutated to spread through parties in Glasgow, yet pubs in Aberdeen. Amazing!

SockYarn · 02/09/2020 19:36

Who's not listening, @TrollTheRespawnJeremy? Have you seen how low the numbers are? Sites like Travelling Tabby have every graph you could ever desire. They show that cases in Scotland at the moment are very, very low.

We can not stay in perpetual lockdown, in this sort of half-life where everything fun and sociable is banned, where people are too scared to see their GP for worrying symptoms because they' don't want to overwhelm the NHS. Deaths from non-Covid causes are going to skyrocket, along with unemployment, poverty and mental health issues.

But that's all fine, as long as you don't get Covid. Which if you're under about 65 is incredibly unlikely to do you any damage. Hmm

Spot on and I’ve been surprised to notice that many more people are thinking the same now.

Seriously the most obtuse comment. I'm embarrassed for you.

Scotslassie1 · 02/09/2020 19:54

She's kept hospitality open... Also, GERS are publicised by the SNP as it demonstrates how WM financially drain Scotland and spend nearly half our taxes on things we don't want or need.

I could go on but it's just such a ridiculous post and usual of the 'wee nippy' brigade.

I'm not a Tory fan but would I say the Tories extended the Manchester lockdown today to deflect from their A level 'fiasco'. No. It was weeks ago! Yet here we go again..I mean Salmond?! He was cleared on all charges.

As usual it's 'let's go for a full house' on the 'We hate Nicola' bingo brigade.

dementedma · 02/09/2020 19:54

The inconsistencies in the rules are what are causing frustration and non compliance. We are STILL not allowed back to our office despite all risk assessments completed and building chock full of sanitiser, notices, floor markings etc. This is since March. In an area where we currently have 17 cases per 100, 000! Staff are still trying to work on kitchen tables, coffee tables, laptops on their knees etc and seriously struggling with isolation and mental health issues. But we can go to the gym, the pub, the bingo etc etc
You simply cannot have a situation where one building is safe, but the one next door isnt. It makes no sense. Office workers and the mythical "phase 4" have been forgotten.
My team is "not allowed" to meet in out building with its huge conference room. So now we meet in each others houses and gardens and in pubs etc and have a weekly team meeting for 6 people face to face. This way, the virus wont get us, in the same way it would in an enormous conf room with a table that seats 20!
The whole thing is fucking insane.

AgentCooper · 02/09/2020 20:15

@dementedma same here. No access to my office since March and it’s getting fucking ridiculous. My boss was saying today that they worked out they could have five people in the office safely, so maybe we’ll do a rota (in January) where one person can come in at a time. And I just had to say why? Why not let five people in if they want to come? Why fucking drag this out? I’m so fed up.

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/09/2020 20:29

Well no, it’s not about whether the virus will get you - the idea of 8 people from a maximum of 3 households means that the spread would be limited to those 3 households (and whoever they’re in close contact with), rather than the 6 households affected by your team meeting (And however many others they’re in close contact with).

dementedma · 02/09/2020 20:31

@AgentCooper. I really sympathise. There is NO reason whatsoever we cant go back. The building is huge and fully compliant. The team miss their colleagues and the interaction that made us gel, be productive, innovate and support each other. Motivation is low, morale is low. We feel forgotten about and ignored. Zoom doesnt replace human interaction and I am seeing a serious impact both on me and the team. We need to be allowed back.

dementedma · 02/09/2020 20:34

@Jellycatspyjamas but we socially distance when and wherever we meet. No physical contact, 2m apart and hand washing. What grates is we can do this in a pub, but not in our office. Of course, we'd be spending money in a pub....

TitianaTitsling · 02/09/2020 20:41

demented and agent same here!! It's infuriating!!

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/09/2020 20:50

I’d love to see 6 people having a meeting all 2m apart from each other.

I tried not to reply but I can't not.

You do realise that Scotland gets more back than it puts in and that we overspend on what we currently have by billions? So if we were independent, even to maintain what we have would require billions more money - without making any improvements? There is more spent per capita head on each person in scotland than average in the UK. That is why we have the barnet formula in order to allow for the fact that some services cost more to provide in rural areas.

What exactly are the things "we" don't want or need?

SusansSassySidePony · 02/09/2020 21:02

Highly amused to see that Nicola Sturgeon is now responsible for people being worried about a global pandemic.
It is sad to see that after we campaigned to get Scotsnet some posters are determined to hijack every thread by posting exactly the same sentiment over and over again.
I'd consider it an own goal ... if I thought for 2 seconds that any of them were actually interested in Scotland. Perhaps they view the Scotsnet section as a harbringer of independence in chat forums and that drives their desire to sabotage it. Hmm

SockYarn · 02/09/2020 21:10

Careful now, you sound like Devi Sridhar with her "people who don't support independence are anti-Scottish" rhetoric.

Personally I can't believe that people genuinely think that Nicola and her shower of incompetents are doing a great job. Westminster aren't doing much better. The whole thing is an utter shit show with daily 45 minute briefings to remind us how scared we need to be.
