Think we will be heading to wearing masks whenever outdoors now

That will be the final straw for me. I can't wear a mask. It's bad enough the evils you get from randomers in Asda when I'm there in my visor. There is no way on God's green earth that there is ANY justification for masks when we're out on a family walk, miles from anyone.

They can fuck RIGHT OFF with that one.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 10/09/2020 20:15

I think I’ve already reached my limit. I’ve literally cracked today.

AgentCooper · 10/09/2020 20:18

@SockYarn there’s no way in hell i’m wearing a mask outside. When I’m out for my walk at lunchtime on my work days? They’ll be lucky.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2020 20:24

Sorry folks that was just me hypothesising, I don't know if outdoor masks are coming or not.

I see quite a lot of people wearing them outdoors already though.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 10/09/2020 20:25

Think we will be heading to wearing masks whenever outdoors now.

Nope, not doing that. I've been following the rules, even the daft ones, but no way I am wearing a mask to walk about outside where the risk is essentially zero.

SockYarn · 10/09/2020 20:27

So do I, @WaxOnFeckOff. And i can see the logic if you're in and out of shops and don't want to be constantly putting your mask on, taking it off, and sticking to the hygiene rules while doing so.

But going down the "france" route of wanting everyone wearing masks at all times - just no.

Ecosse · 10/09/2020 20:31

I really wouldn’t put it past Sturgeon and Sridhar to make masks compulsory outdoors. They’ll do anything to pursue their elimination strategy, no matter what the side effects.

Timeforanotherusername · 10/09/2020 20:32

Wearing mask outside is surely counter productive unless its a really high traffic area.

It would drive people indoors, out of sight and into perfect conditions for the virus to spread.

You have to wear masks outdoors in Spain.........

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2020 20:32

yeah, if my hands are full leaving the supermarket, i will keep mine on to get to the car but I mostly do click and collect.

We were dropping DS2 at uni at the weekend and between being in and out dropping his stuff and then the supermarket and lunch and then hotel and dinner etc I felt fed up taking it on and off. Even worse was our lock being faulty on our hotel door so we were back and forward to reception having to mask up every time.

I have quite a small face and even with a quite fitted mask, it rises up and rubs on my eyes. I'll end up being in lock down just because of irritated eyes if I have to wear it anytime i'm out of the house.

soloula · 10/09/2020 20:56

Scotland is cold and wet. It's not a useful comparison for mask wearing to say well they do it in -insert nice sunny country abroad - so why can't we do it here. My glasses steam up something terrible with a mask when it's wet. I can just about manage standing still in the playground for 15 mins but when I'm walking and breathing heavier I steam up and can't see shit. And we've not even got into the bad winter weather.

randomsabreuse · 10/09/2020 20:58

Given our weather, how effective are soaking wet masks? Probably the biggest practical issue... I have yet to find an umbrella that deals with horizontal rain!

@WaxOnFeckOff I have the same problem with masks getting in my eyes. M&S pack of 5 is neater than many but doesn't have a nose wire so doesn't sit well be my glasses are impossible with masks when it's raining!

randomsabreuse · 10/09/2020 21:00

@soloula I think a lot of the Asian countries have rain, but it seems to be more of the vertical variety than ours!

soloula · 10/09/2020 21:06

@randomsabreuse it's the cold more than the wet. I steam up going from cold to warm environments all the time but wearing a mask and it creating hot breath means my mask steams up without even going into a warm building now. I've no worries wearing one inside but I'd have major issues if it became mandatory outside. Especially as I live in the countryside and apart from the school run I rarely bump into a soul when I'm out and about.

I think that's the problem with the rules. It's the blanket application across the board that comes across as unfair. Like folk in areas with very low cases being subject to the same rules as those in places with much higher prevalence.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2020 21:13

I've tried a few @randomsabreuse best I've found so far is the fitted type from seasalt but it still rides up and has no nose clip. I wear contact though so the steaming up doesn't happen.

Only got these as DH has dificulties with allergies. he's NHS so has to wear multiple disposables all day but his face gets irritated and he sneezes constantly and it's obviously irritating his nose as his snoring has become outrageous and I'm lucky if I get more than 5 hours sleep and even that is broken a couple of times when the snoring wakes me. I suspected that i might have long covid as i'm contantly tired and wooly headed but I think it's just lack of sleep. I've not resorted to a nap so far today so hopeful for a decent sleep tonight.

randomsabreuse · 10/09/2020 21:15

Wet masks supposedly don't work... hence my concern with wet. To be fair I'm not sure the mask makes my ability to see in the rain that much worse, but putting the mask on to go inside with soaked glasses isn't helpful easier!

Realistically I need to get back into the habit of wearing contact lenses though!

randomsabreuse · 10/09/2020 21:18

@WaxOnFeckOff

I wonder if those crochet ear saver things or a headband with buttons might hold the things down. The disposables are better for my nose but push up off my neck to get in my eyes at the other end. Maybe I should try a "teen" sized or make my own!

PapsofJura · 10/09/2020 21:20

I have also reached my limit with the new rules imposed today. I have stuck by everyone so far as I thought that I was doing the right thing but limiting to two households even on a walk, no, not going to happen.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2020 21:23

@randomsabreuse, I'm rubbish at sewing but I don't think the crochet things would help as, if anything, i need something to keep it down rather than up?

I wear varifocal contacts - they are the dogs.

randomsabreuse · 10/09/2020 21:45

I feel like you could have the crochet thingy at the nape of your neck, assuming the mask had adequate nose space. Also the ones that go around your whole head rather than behind the ears might work - I had one that showed promise but had zero nose space.

I don't need varifocals yet, I like contacts for sport but get annoyed with them for all day wear!

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2020 21:48

I've worn contacts for about 35 years now. Couldn't be without them.

I've just sat and pulled cords in all sorts of directions on my mask and it's all fine until I put my head down as you would be shoving stuff in bags or in the boot etc, then it rides up into my eyes no matter how tight I have it.

lookingforamindatwork · 10/09/2020 22:20

I want to be safe. I want to do the right thing.

But who the fuck knows what the right thing is any more?

WouldBeGood · 10/09/2020 23:04

It’s gone too far. The thing up thread about kids walking home is heartbreaking.

And if you have two DCs at uni, for example, you won’t be able to have them home at the same time?

Or a grown up grandchild out for lunch with you and grandparent?

No one will comply with this.

AgentCooper · 10/09/2020 23:19

I’m fucking done with this. I have an almost 3 year old DS who is lovely but highly strung and hard work. My three days in the office were my social time, my contact with friends, my time away from the house. And now it’s wfh until fuck knows when. No toddler groups. DS won’t go to sleep without me so it’s not like I can just bugger off to the pub when I feel like it. The loneliness and claustrophobia of all this is crushing.

WouldBeGood · 10/09/2020 23:44

@AgentCooper 💐

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2020 23:52

And I promised myself not to get political, but my FB now spammed with petitions about BBC bias for stopping broadcasting the daily updates. Regardless of what party you support, people must surely see that there is no reason to have this daily? I watched it from time to time at the beginning when I think they were necessary and weren't overly political but now there is no need for a daily update. Figures and any minor changes can be read out in the news and bigger updates, have the press conference and broadcast it.

I don't think there is any justification, now going on a deleting spree on SM.
