Airbridges - will Scotland have separate rules?

If air bridges are agreed with some countries, does anyone know if that's for whole of UK or would Scotland be able to do something different regarding quarantine?
I get confused as to what Scotland has control over versus what's centrally decided.

Ah feck!! So now only a tiny glimmer of hope when they review on 20th to see if the advice on Spain changes.

redsky75 · 08/07/2020 13:13

Very relieved to hear about this, think it's the right decision. It will be tough for many tourist sectors but we've pushed case numbers so low over the last few months.

TeenTraumaTrials · 08/07/2020 13:15

Oh no trump that's awful. We'll just lose flight cost which is in high 100's but I'd be devastated if we were on course to lose 1000's

She did at least say that in the future they will, if the data is available, consider applying different quarantines to different parts of for eg, Spain.
rookiemere · 08/07/2020 13:33

Oh I'm sorry I just saw the good news but of the update.
Is it worth checking with package holiday companies/airlines/insurance if they will refund due to quarantine?

Arkadia · 08/07/2020 13:38

So, she couldn't do it at the time. No. She had to wait till today, and to make a point, exclude Serbia and Spain...

trumpisaflump · 08/07/2020 13:43

@rookiemere our insurance specifically states it doesn't cover any covid related issues. We're supposed to be flying with Ryanair and they will still be flying I imagine so no chance of a refund from them.

I think the answer to that is maybe...

TeenTraumaTrials · 08/07/2020 13:45

The thing is she said they need more data. I have been monitoring Spanish numbers via a site I found by a web search that breaks down by region so the data is already there. I'm just so hacked off at the thought of another 4 weeks of changeable weather and nothing to look forward to.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/07/2020 13:48

trump any chance that you can transfer the holiday to a different place? I know there will still be costs involvd to change it but maybe worth a try?

rookiemere · 08/07/2020 13:52

That really sucks @trumpisaflump but it's not the 29th July yet. Still time for things to change.

So now you can fly in from as far away as Australia, route via London and not be stopped. But Spain, no? You will arrive into the UK, via a regional airport and have the threat of public health Scotland with Police Scotland calling at your home, yet those on the same flight as you returning to homes in Manchester or Berwick (!) are free to go home? If it’s at a UK regional airport, you will be treated differently to fellow UK passport holders, due to your residence🤦‍♀️ A worrying precedent.

Timefor45 · 08/07/2020 18:57

By the way, I’ve just returned from germy ‘England’ specifically, an area which has a lower rate of cases than Glasgow, still socially distancing and a wonderful, warm (literally, no rain) welcome across the tourism sector which reopened on Saturday. Everyone so friendly and helpful whilst instructing in new rules, very keen to look after visitors to the area. So if you’re forced into a staycation instead of Spain this year, travel south past the boundary, to ‘sunny England’ where there’s plenty of hand sanitizer to go round everyone, even for people who’ve flown in from SpainGrin.

MumofHunter · 08/07/2020 19:27

England and Spain have similarly high rates of Covid.
Scotland and Australia have similarly low rates of Covid (as no movement out of the states with high Covid allowed).
People coming back from Spain ( high rate) must quarantine so Scotland keeps its low rate otherwise there's a risk that the past four months have been a total waste of time for everyone!!!!

It's really not rocket science.

redsky75 · 08/07/2020 20:04

@MumofHunter spot on!

Timefor45 · 08/07/2020 20:17

Hmmm, yet your fellow passenger from Spain (not high rates in tourist areas) returning home to other parts of the UK doesn’t have to quarantine🤔
Also, Australia 24 hours flight time, stopover twice potentially, still walk through the airport.
Oh and my colleague flew in to Edinburgh from Madrid, peak lockdown time, walked out of airport unchecked and returned to her flatshare...just saying.

SockYarn · 08/07/2020 20:21

England and Spain have similarly low rates of Covid.

Fixed that for you. 99.997% of people being covid free isn't "high".

Alaimo · 08/07/2020 20:24

I'm flying back to Scotland tomorrow. I expect quarantine will be more difficult than the initial lockdown as no outdoor exercise (walks, bike rides) allowed and being stuck inside while others are able to go out and socialise again. But I didn't expect a travel corridor to be in place between my current location and the UK anyway, so at least I'm somewhat mentally prepared for it...

Alaimo · 08/07/2020 20:28

@Timefor45 Anyone traveling from Australia to the UK with a transit in a non-exempt country needs to quarantine. Even if you don't leave the airport. I don't think any of the main stopover destinations are on the exemption list, so the only way to avoid it would be through booking the direct Perth to London flight (if that's even running at the moment).

MumofHunter · 08/07/2020 20:56

Not sure where you've the past few months but I'll spell it out.

'Your friend ' - came in with no checks, as did many others, from a country with high Covid cases because of the union with WM.They refused to let us close our borders / impose quarantine until months later.

Many people died because of this (as the SG foresaw and stated would happen in the letter containing their first request which was a few days after the first outbreak).

Also, everyone travelling to N.I from abroad must quarantine for 14 days so you're incorrect in saying the rest of the U.K. are doing the same as each other and we're just trying to be different for no apparant reason/ benefit.

Total ball ache for anyone coming back from Spain but it's not just our FM that's, you know, trying to keep people alive.

Australia were on par with Scotland a few weeks ago and now having to go back into lockdown in some areas so it shows how the situation can revert just when you think things are okay.

@Alaimo I hope it's not too tough.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/07/2020 20:59

Alaimo, I think if you have no symptoms you can go into your garden but stay distanced from the neighbouring fences, you could also wear a mask and go somewhere quite at night for a bit of exercise.

We did full quarantine right at the beginning as I, then DH probably had it and DS had no symptoms but being a teen was least likely to have any whilst still having it. At the time guidance was 7 days from first having symptoms or 14 days if none so technically DH and DS did longer than me.

To be honest it's all moved on so much that it's difficult to know what's what anymore. Obviously I'd look it up if required!

And also fed up with the spread of fear that some posters like to engage in. Areas of England and Spain had and still have lower rates of infection than Glasgow/Inverclyde etc in the same way that Scottish Highlands and islands have also had lesser rates. Maybe folk visiting Glasgow should have to isolate for 2 weeks on their return to Inverness?

MumofHunter · 08/07/2020 21:11

Quarantine from Glasgow could happen if needed, as was done recently with D and G. 👍

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/07/2020 21:14

Nah, she can't upset the weedge - where would her votes come from?

YonBonnieBanks · 08/07/2020 21:52

So the vast majority of Scots wont get a holiday (even if they wanted to) cause most people who holiday abroad go to Spain.

They could stay in Scotland and pay a fortune for the same shite weather and the same shite food and the same bastard midgies but the islands dont want them and Cornwall and the Lakes dont want them

wee nippy doing anything to be different. Although I do think foreign travel is risky overall.

on an unrelated note (wasn't sure where else to put it), Glasgow has a high BAME population, so I fear that it could be the next Leicester. Similar living and working conditions (I do a lot of work with the BAME community). It just takes one person to come back from holiday, go into a multi generation household or a factory with poor HSE compliance and here we all go again.

And the same goes for food factories (where all communities work) - as soon as someone from there also goes abroad on holiday and back to work with no quarantine.

redsky75 · 08/07/2020 21:56

Can't tell you how fed up I am of hearing that NS is doing things differently just for the sake of being different. The derogatory 'nickname' certain people give her too is beyond tiresome and unoriginal. It really doesn't do much to strengthen an opinion or argument.
