Airbridges - will Scotland have separate rules?

If air bridges are agreed with some countries, does anyone know if that's for whole of UK or would Scotland be able to do something different regarding quarantine?
I get confused as to what Scotland has control over versus what's centrally decided.

@rookiemere due to go on 29th July. We are going to a villa so will hardly see anyone else in an area with almost zero covid cases. I work in ICU and my nerves have been absolutely frazzled since March. We are currently planning for a second covid surge and mid to long term projections so work is horrendous at the moment. The thought of getting a break to the sunshine is the only thing keeping me going.

TeenTraumaTrials · 07/07/2020 17:21

That sounds like such a well deserved break trump. I can't imagine how stressful work must have been. My DH is emergency services (not NHS) but has been so busy and has really struggled with not seeing as much of kids.

That's the same day we are due to go.

trumpisaflump · 07/07/2020 17:36

@TeenTraumaTrials I've got my fingers crossed for you too.

rookiemere · 07/07/2020 18:54

I think for those going away towards the end of July, she'll have to have capitulated by then.

Ooh this thread moved on. Seeing as I am hoping to holiday in Scotland, I'm a bit Hmm about the weather predictions.
Also, my boss has challenged me to walk up Ben Nevis 😱

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/07/2020 20:08

Also, my boss has challenged me to walk up Ben Nevis Ben Nevis is not the prettiest of hills tbh - I'd maybe pick something nicer :)

This was taken at the summit of Ben Nevis at the beginning of July a few years ago

This is my complete holiday nightmare 😂😃
Alaimo · 07/07/2020 20:13

@rookiemere The UK government said that everyone will still need to fill in the 'passenger locator form'. Doesn't matter if you're flying to an English or Scottish airport, and whether you're flying from an exempt destination or not.

anon444877 · 07/07/2020 20:15

You know though, there’s nothing worse than a trip to a usually sunny European destination when the weather is randomly not good - I once had a torrentially rainy April city break to florence.

Scotland in July/August, you’re grateful for any sign of blue sky, but there are lots of things to do.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/07/2020 20:15

The thing is Willowkins, you could get absolutely anything, including beautiful summer weather.

We stayed in a yurt at buttermere once, the wettest place in the UK I think and we had the sun splitting the sky for a week. Kids wanted to go back but I said we'd had our run of luck so we couldn't go back as we'd sully the memory of the original holiday Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/07/2020 20:16

I should add that Buttermere is in the lake district not in Scotland in case I've caused confusion!

rookiemere · 07/07/2020 20:22

@Alaimo I didn't know that about the form, but still there would need to be some reciprocal sharing of the data with Scottish health agencies and I don't think that will happen.

I love the Lake District and we've been blessed with good weather on more than one occasion- there certainly seems to be a bit more of it around than in Scotland. Last year after many weeks of stifling heat in the office, we managed to land on an entirely wet week at Castle Douglas.

Mascotte · 07/07/2020 20:28

@anon444877 there's not really lots to do if you don't like the great outdoors, it's very expensive to stay in the city, and everything fun is shut.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/07/2020 20:31

oh we've been many many times rookie both Summer hols and easter and had everything from snow to sunshine but we've never had the guts to camp again, even if it was "posh" camping. We should have been there this Easter, either last Easter or the one before, we had to miss a day as the snow was too bad to travel.

.

Alaimo · 07/07/2020 20:34

@rookiemere All the data is collected by the UK border agency/home office. That was why it was in the news the other day. It's collected at UK-level, but Public Health Scotland didn't have access to the database, but they do now.

anon444877 · 07/07/2020 20:35

@Mascotte agree - we are in a city where everything is shut. The kids resorted to singing today to try and entertain themselves. I should indeed have said lots to do if you like parks, being outside.

TheMurk · 07/07/2020 23:26

I know of 4 Scottish families currently loving life on the beach right now in Spain.

No issues flying, no checks. No one stopped them.

There’s an awful lot of rhetoric flying about but the reality on the ground is that people are just doing what they like - if it’s open, they’re going.

Again, the stuff she says in these briefings is hot air. It’s entirely for political gain.

Willowkins · 08/07/2020 01:45

My teens would love snow!

rookiemere · 08/07/2020 07:56

Interesting to know TheMurk - but unless things change, won't the families going to Spain have to self isolate for 2 weeks when they get home?
I mean I know the chances are small, that if they didn't adhere they'd get found out and fined , but it is the reality at the moment.

I could just about cope with DH and I having to do that for a fortnight - we would still walk the dog super early and super late - but DS 14 has started playing with his mates again and I know one DM who is super cautious about all this and might report him if he was out.

Anyway I wish anyone luck who has a foreign trip booked and fingers crossed there will be an update from SG very soon.

@willowkins Do you have an area in mind? Agreed Ben Nevis isn't great for the amount of effort needed!!

rookiemere · 08/07/2020 12:50

Hurrah so some movement. No quarantine for Green countries - actually think that's a sensible (if slow) decision.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/07/2020 12:52

Except Spain...

SockYarn · 08/07/2020 12:54

This is fucking ridiculous.

28 in every 100,000 people in Scotland have Covid - 99.9997% of people in Scotland DON'T have Covid. But wear a mask folks, because it's a jungle out there. Hmm

Nasty, germy Spain has TEN TIMES the rate of Covid that Scotland does! Shocking, right? Well no, because that's 300 out of every 100,000, meaning 99.997% of Spaniards don't have Covid either.

It's ridiculous.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/07/2020 12:56

As NS pointed out, Melbourne had nearly eradicated the virus, now it is in lockdown.

A low prevalence can turn to high very quickly.

trumpisaflump · 08/07/2020 13:10

Well that's us lost 4 grand on a holiday we can't go to.
