Airbridges - will Scotland have separate rules?

If air bridges are agreed with some countries, does anyone know if that's for whole of UK or would Scotland be able to do something different regarding quarantine?
I get confused as to what Scotland has control over versus what's centrally decided.

@MumofHunter we're hoping to go to Portugal in July to stay in a villa for 5 nights then Spain at the start of August and neither require quarantine on entry.

MumofHunter · 28/06/2020 12:56

Oh that 's good, I just saw it's only specific Portuguese islands which require quarantine for 14 days.

rookiemere · 28/06/2020 13:07

It's probably a moot point for me now as I persuaded DH that we should cancel our August trip to Majorca.

Too many potential risks about going, and unlikely travel insurance would cover any of it.

@TooTrueToBeGood I agree with you .
I think it’s ironic that people are criticising Nicola and then talking about foreign holidays. We have brought the virus down to manageable levels. Why do people want to sit on a plane when the risk of infection there must be quite high. It’s only 1 year to miss your holiday . There are lots of lovely places to visit in Scotland .

Mascotte · 28/06/2020 13:51

But we are told not to visit the lovely places in Scotland.

Plus the weather is shite.

trumpisaflump · 28/06/2020 14:07

@Mascotte totally agree

SamSeabornforPresident · 28/06/2020 16:22

Exactly. The lovely places in Scotland are (pretty understandably) demanding people don't visit unless they are business owners for whom the alternative is to lose their entire year's profit. Plus holiday homes in Scotland tend to be on the pricey side. We're probably not going to have a holiday at all this year for these reasons; I'm a teacher so can't really go later and the winter weather is so shite up here there's little point from September onwards.

rookiemere · 28/06/2020 16:42

We stayed in Scotland last summer for our holidays. i may have had false expectations because a work colleague said it was the Lake District of Scotland. Readers he lied. The main resemblance was it rained a lot, although we did like Kippford.

We do have 3 nights booked in some cabins in Loch Tay as our friends will be there, and I do love Forest Holidays at Strathyre but I looked and they are crazy prices for the summer and then they want to charge extra for wifi.

So I think we'll save our pennies for next year and hope we can go abroad then.

Sorry I should have said we went to Castle Douglas.

We've taken the risk and booked flights to Spain for end of July and will be staying in a villa in a small village. We might eat out a few times (outside) and go to walk on a the beach but other than that will just stick at the villa/pool. Won't be going anywhere crowded.

I really can't see any justification for Scot Gov continuing with 14 day quarantine for flying into Scotland from countries with lower rates than England when people from England will be able to drive over the border and visit with no quarantine. And people from Europe will be able to fly to Newcastle and drive to Scotland.

We've done a great job to drive it down but unfortunately we're not an island so can't do a New Zealand.

rookiemere · 28/06/2020 18:31

Teentraumatrials I hope you have a lovely holiday. I suspect we would too, but I was just fed up with all the factors outside our control and the villa wouldn't have been very pricey if just us in it.

Mascotte · 28/06/2020 20:19

Have a good time @TeenTraumaTrials!

It's so fucking expensive to stay anywhere in Scotland too. Even if allowed! Just been looking

Willowkins · 28/06/2020 20:31

Apparently SG are considering insisting that tourists from England submit to quarantine if visiting Scotland. I booked my cottage near Fort William months before the lockdown and have had months of uncertainty. The thought of being able to visit the cottage but then having to stay indoors is a bit worrying. Apart from the lovely view from the window, how is that any different from staying at home?

rookiemere · 28/06/2020 20:35

Willowkins I'm hoping it's a bit of political posturing to flex her muscles about the fact Scotland weren't consulted in the airbridge discussions. I'm not sure it could be enforceable as surely holiday makers would be entitled to cancel their holidays and get a refund. At least I hope so as we're planning to go in the opposite direction.

Apparently SG are considering insisting that tourists from England submit to quarantine if visiting Scotland if cases in England continue to rise

You forgot the relevant part.

Mascotte · 28/06/2020 20:51

It's just causing more upset and anxiety and will lose the Scottish economy even more money.

WeAllHaveWings · 28/06/2020 20:51

Sorry, should just say rise, not 'continue'

Willowkins · 28/06/2020 21:01

rookie I hope so - I understand a bit of Govt leakage to test public opinion. Also, now I come to think of it, how would anyone know I was English anyway? It must be impossible to enforce unless they tattoo my forehead as I get off the train.
Super excited for you coming to England. Which bit are you going to?

TeenTraumaTrials · 28/06/2020 21:02

I just don't see how that could be enforced Willowkins unless NS is planning on putting border agents in every road into Scotland. Not even sure that's legal?

Willowkins · 28/06/2020 21:06

wings and that's another thing, cases have risen at different times in different parts of England. Would it be fair to ban everyone? I don't mind having my temperature taken, social distancing and wear a mask when I get there though.

rookiemere · 28/06/2020 21:07

Willowkins we have a large rental property in Ludlow that we've been to before. It's a wonderful part of the world and I hope we can go.

OP posts:
Willowkins · 28/06/2020 21:13

Teen exactly. And I also get the impression that the Scottish tourism industry desperately wants holidays to happen. I hope NS is getting some good advice.

Willowkins · 28/06/2020 21:16

Love Shropshire-nearly-Wales. So peaceful there.

rookiemere · 28/06/2020 22:01

Willowkins make sure it's a tartan mask Wink.

Oh they definitely do want to re-open - had an email from favourite highland hotel pointing out they’ve been closed 1/3 of a year.

I hope they can re open self catering and trace where they think spikes are happening from and not blanket close things again.

Time to do some local shopping today!
